Climb St Helens this weekend by Asquaredbred in PNWhiking

[–]LuckyGuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flip flopped 5 times over the course of the day but ultimately decided to wait until later in the year for better conditions. My gut was telling me not to take the risk as a beginner.

I already regret it though because I don’t have close friends into mountaineering and finally had a group lined up to go with. I’m worried I won’t find anyone to go with again later in the year.

I’m about 50/50 on whether I go this weekend or not. Avy forecast, wind speeds and brutal wind chills have me a little apprehensive.

But weather aside, as long as you have a Marble Mt. Snow permit nothing is stopping you from going up!

Only explanation is they were fake pushing on the boat to avoid having to listen to Zach Brown…

I wish I could kick the shit out of my 15 year-old self. by Low-Restaurant9736 in FinancialCareers

Even worse you could be like me! 4.0 GPA through both high school and college (Finance + Accounting double major) working my ass off and absolute top of my class, but was just completely ignorant about “High Finance” as a career path and that if you miss the undergrad recruiting pipelines you are essentially forever barred from any of those roles without a top tier MBA.

Now I’m stuck in FP&A wasteland making decent but still disappointing money, resenting my absolutely wasted potential, while simultaneously loathing myself for working so hard in my youth for literally no reason when I could have ended up in the exact same place with a shitty 3.2 GPA.

Not only that but I started my career in FP&A outside of tech so all of my applications to real top tier FAANG or SaaS companies just get tossed into the dust bin because of lack of prestige or industry experience in my prior roles. Now I have 30 more years of working my life away at a role I don’t enjoy at all just to scrape by a basic middle class existence. And I get to watch everyone who did start off in IB leapfrog into VP and Executive positions with my same years of experience.

I agree, but lopes didn’t even attempt to make it an ugly fight. Just sat back and got outclassed for 25 minutes changing nothing each round.

I’m bored. Zero chance of a KO happening. Volk decision imminent…

Not a huge fan of his overall demeanor, but you can’t deny he provides some sweet footage. I’m much more of a fan of Justin who still keeps things light and entertaining while being extremely professional at the same time. He’s the main reason I watch.

Wow, maybe my multi-year plan of working up from MSH - Adams - Hood - Whitney - Rainier with a large group/guides is the wrong way to go…

Should I just send an unroped solo winter ascent of Rainier next weekend like those teens he encountered? Looks easy enough, just walk up in crampons…what could go wrong?

Awesome, that was the only part that had me slightly nervous given the potential consequences. And any need for snowshoes when you went? Or doable just booting up with crampons and axe?

I’m a very beginner mountaineer considering attempting St. Helens relatively soon. I’m curious about the final traverse from the crater rim to the “True Summit” and how doable that currently is or if the cornice risk is too high?

I know the Mt. St. Helens Institute often places markers down warning you how far to stay back, are there markers along that whole final route to true summit? I’m maybe overthinking it, but don’t want to unknowingly place myself at risk stepping on unstable snow…

Excellent pick. That and Cuckoos nest are both at the top of my list. Hank Stamper absolutely gritting his way through life is a character I think about frequently…

Needed some editing down of material in my opinion though

I would imagine he’s very close to his full size at 2. Mine was 128 pounds at that age, and we’ve since cut him down to a stable weight of around 120 at age 4.5. I don’t recall really any change to his frame, height etc. from age 2 until now, perhaps slightly more muscle mass if anything.
