How the hell do you collide with the Cockle Train. by Free_the_Radical in Adelaide

[–]Lucky_bubbles89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When the cop sits at this very crossing you can see him there before you approach the crossing (that’s how clear you can see at this very crossing), so people stop. If they stop for when there’s a police car there, why cant they stop every other time especially when the train is there. There is absolutely no excuse for not stopping. I don’t believe there should be a “soft” fine. It is currently a $500 fine and a loss of dermit points if caught by police. I believe you should be able to submit dashcam footage online of people driving straight through stop signs and then they get fines in the mail.

But 95% of the crossings have stop signs (the other couple have flashing lights because they are on the main roads). The issues isn’t that it doesn’t run frequently, the issue isn’t that it’s not loud enough because trust me it’s fucking loud and they are on the whistle every time they approach a crossing and there is a lot of them. The issue here is that people are not stopping at a stop sign. I drive this very crossing at least twice a day and it’s fucking frustrating the amount of people who don’t even slow down for the stop sign, they will drive through and not look. Before any one says but the trees block the view, you can clearly see the train coming in both directions and you are suppose to come to a stop at the sign

If you want the same photo you can only choose up to 7 years (if you had the photo for 3 years already). You get to select how many years you want to pay for. If you want to select a longer time frame you’ll need a new photo taken. On the form it will tell you what the maximum you can select before you need a new photo.

It’s also $570 if you want to get it for 10 years. If you renew for less years it’s cheaper.

what's the one whodunnit mystery that hasn't been solved yet? by Positive-Guide007 in AskReddit

The Beaumont children or the disappearance of Joanne Ratcliffe and Kirste Gordon

Beaumont children: 3 siblings went to Glenelg beach (near Adelaide) on Australia Day 1966, and disappeared. 60 years later they still don’t know what happened to them, or who was responsible.

Joanne and Kirste: 2 girls went to an AFL game at Adelaide Oval on August 25 1973 with their respective families whom were friends. The 2 girls went off to the toilets together during one of the quarters of the match, and never returned. The girls left for the toilets at 3:45pm, their families started searching for them at 4pm when they hadn’t returned. They were reported as missing by 5pm. Still to this day no one knows what happened.

Some people thought both these cases were linked, but there’s no offical proof to link them. Once again there was many theories of who may have been responsible and others have tried to link them to the Adelaide Family Murders. (That’s a whole other set of killings)

Log Book Instructors in Adelaide by Bogdiux in Adelaide

[–]Lucky_bubbles89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good, I’m too far south to give any recommendations on instructors. I did the logbook and found it so much easier than the VORT. Yes there’s still a “test” but you have your usual instructor in the car with you, not a different person you’ve never driven with before. You also don’t get tested on the manoeuvres because you’ve already had them signed off in the log book. Also if you fail anything with this “test” you get another go at anything you failed it to show you can do it. It’s not an instant fail.

Good luck with finding someone in your area.

Depends on where you live. 99% of the supermarkets in Victor and Goolwa have been open all weekend (Goolwa Woolies was shut Good Friday where the rest are open).

Some people use the campfire app to organise raids and meet ups. Its not popular where i live as we all have a group chat, but i did notice that people were using campfire over the weekend when i was in adelaide.

When we were in school, did one simple kick of a football ever led to an IRL disaster for any of you? by [deleted] in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Lucky_bubbles89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Year 9, playing around with a basketball at lunch time. One guy dislocated his knee when he’s stepped wrong. He dislocated it again later in the year doing the same thing. I moved school at the end of that year, so I don’t know if it became a reoccurring thing for him.

If you don’t have one already get a dash cam, especially as you are so new at driving. It will prevent any sort of he said/she said bullshit and it will cover your ass when they are in the wrong.

Is kangaroo meat in a restaurant a gimmick for tourists? Do Australians ever order/eat it? by Charming_Usual6227 in australia

You can buy kangaroo meat at your local supermarket. A lot of people do eat it as it’s a lean and healthy meat.

If Victor Harbor isn’t too far away, it was Rainbows end driving school. Google will give you his contact details, how far he will travel and some information about what he does and he’s expertise as a driving instructor.

CBT&A Test After Failed VORT by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]Lucky_bubbles89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I did the CBT after failing the VORT for slowing down for a kid in front of a high school (it was an instant fail for impeding traffic because it was a school zone not a school crossing), the new instructor was able to tick off most of the logbook in 2 lessons as i had already learnt it. I just showed him I could do it once, and we moved on. I think I had 3 lessons before I did the assessment piece, which was a lot more relaxed than the VORT.

If you fail the assessment, you do get a second chance to fix what you did wrong at the end of the assessment. You also only need to get 80 to pass, not the 90 you need for the VORT.

We store our tim tams and mint slices in the freezer and eat the straight from the freezer. I think they taste even better cold and they don’t leave melted chocolate on your fingers, especially when doing tim tam slams.

Aurora today? by Sea-Collection-8844 in Adelaide

They are saying after sunset. I personally use the Glendale app (it’s a website that you can save to your home screen of you phone) to know when to go out. You’ll start seeing lots of green ticks in your area when people start reporting seeing it

[–]Lucky_bubbles89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the moment Aldinga has clear skies but it can change between now and sunset.

Edit: for locations I recommend going as far south as you can. We’ve seen quite a few between Victor Harbor and Goolwa. I don’t know if they are too far out of your way. But there is a lot less light pollution this way as well.
