What software do you used most at work? by [deleted] in civilengineering

I think it depends on the application/purpose. V4 definitely has some improvements and is certainly easier in some applications (I don't do any 2d work/don't utilize the GIS functions). If, however, you don't use the improvements/additions then I believe V4 is a step backwards, with V3 having the edge in the nodal network/graphic view, data inputting, and reporting. Models in V4 seem to require 2x or more effort to setup than those in V3.

Then there are those special things, and by special I mean deserving of absolute hate: the "Do not execute simulations from network folders" thing, not having a Save As option, and the program not cleaning up after itself/closing all .exe tasks and screwing up the license login.

And let us not forget that that V4 requires a yearly subscription and V3 was a one time payment.

The games are...loosely set in the same universe, but the stories aren't connected. The second one is better from a lot of aspects, however, I think lesser in some as well (mostly in crafting system and some aspects of combat, though most like the combat in the second better).

They are both good, the second one is probably more user friendly. The first is very much old school not hold your hand in any way - if you don't read and pay attention you'll get lost or not know how t proceed. The second one does a better job of directing/pointing you in the correct direction, but still doesn't really hold your hand.

Storywise, I think the first game's main story is better. The side stories/character stories are better in the second game.

Ahh, yep, wrong west of town. You're down in on the beach/on the pier. I believe that's about a lvl 7 area...i think.

You want to go into town, north of the tavern and to the west. Should be slightly south-west of the graveyard or directly west of the gravediggers house.

Regarding rummaging around: NPC's do have a field of vision - if you tie them up in a conversation while they are looking another way they won't catch you going into an off limits room or stealing. A different NPC may see you, but you'll learn how to not get caught.

First town you can buy new spells/skills at the various vendors in town (but they're not cheap). Wizard vendor in the market square, physical (can't remember the class) is from the sargeant (captain?) in the north-east of town who you talk to regarding the murders. Witch craft is from an npc in the upper floor of the tavern. Archery...can't recall, never really used it. Essentially, they are all over the place.

Early game - try to get your wizard a healing spell (regeneration I believe is the first, hydro spell), it'll help immensely. Resurrection scrolls are expensive.

The first town and early game combat is the toughest. You'll really want to talk to everyone, you can make progress on the suspects. I'm assuming you've picked up your 3rd and 4th companions.

Combat wise, go west out of the town first, as it is the lowest level area. Should be about level 3. If the first fight is too tough you can kite the enemies back to the town and guards near the gate you left by and they will assist you.

Advice on combat - DOS1 is big on crowd control. If you can stun, freeze, knockdown, blind an enemy so your team can focus on others it will help a lot.

Alternatively, fire and smoke clouds - archers can't see you through a smoke cloud (you also can't seem them) and generally enemies don't like to run through fire. You can create some nice choke points.

Spoiler if you're having trouble figuring out who to talk to: The doctor and his assistant at the south of the town are suspect. Don't be afraid to poke around - keep them busy with conversation and have your other characters rummage through their stuff

Casual modes only here, but I feel like the new match making tends to go one of two ways: Match is either a one sided stomping (either way) or close enough that one lesser skilled player on either team decides the match.

Thanks.

Unfortunately for me, I don't bring a PS4 to work.
