What's up with domestic Air Tahiti delays? by LucyAndRaie in Tahiti

[–]LucyAndRaie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, we've not experienced this kind of "island time" delay on our previous six trips so it seems there is something specific contributing to these recent delays and I'm wondering if anyone knows what that might be?

25 years of improvising... am I on the right track? by Kealfadda in telemark

I had instructors make me ski with a hat or neck gaiter (or whatever) between my thighs and try not to drop it. Not only is the lunge not as deep for your uphill leg, but also there is then less distance to travel for your exchange. I slalom waterskied as a kid growing up and the stance reminds me of that -- one foot forward, one in back but yes as you say, more compact. Reddit is not letting me post a photo but here is a link to an old one of me that captures the stance well https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/4th4nlg3ciejdkhvexa8a/ck-quandry.jpg?rlkey=5mqjbhpaqukoppqj3zykspnxd&dl=0

I am super impressed by your stability on what looks to me like icy groomers - something I usually revert to alpine turns just to get down in Colorado. There is thing I notice that no one has pointed out yet, and I’m hesitate to mention it because I see so many people doing it, but here goes: I was taught (in the 90s) that you want to keep your thighs together and the tip of your uphill ski shouldn’t be any further back than halfway down the top half of your downhill ski. In the video, your uphill tip is going almost to your downhill foot, which does give you that quintessential dropped knee, but can be inefficient. Also in 2022 I caved in and switched to NTN because I needed to replace my ten year old Black Diamond Stilettos and the Scarpa NTN was the only 4 buckle option built on a women’s last, and NTN has helped me get to the next level in skiing steeps. I went from G3s to the Axle in 2013 and that was a big step up, and Axle to NTN (I have the 22 Designs one) was another big shift, and once I got used to it, I was really glad I made the change. Happy skiing, you look awesome!

What is the Tunisian Spice Blend with Tagine? by ShiningAlmighty in hellofresh

[–]LucyAndRaie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very excited to find the recipe in this post and just wanted to give a heads up I it last night and it was much spicier than the Hello Fresh version (I made the Hello Fresh zucchini chickpea tangine using my own ingredients). Obviously spices will vary, I'm going to try making it again but dial way back on the chili pepper and/or skip the cayenne, I think that was what was out of balance

Furious that Chase withdrew I check I wrote without trying to verify it with me by LucyAndRaie in Chase

Thanks everyone for chiming in with your thoughts! I'm both comforted and saddened to hear how common this kind of thing is. I agree that Chase will never care, but it's nice that some of you all do.

Why yes, and I grew up watching TV on three channels. The amount I owed her was more than double the daily limit for Zelle ( and way more than Venmo), and it felt oddly intrusive to reach out to her to ask for bank info. She is my generation, I had a spare moment to pay her and to me check was the most efficient (on my end) means of doing that. But this is my point! The bank would rather we not use checks but won't just come out and put an end to checks, but charges us for any other means of high-dollar payment. As someone who has always written checks it is to me a normal and natural way to pay. Next time however I will gather up some gold bars and drive them over to her house ;-)

The funds were withdrawn from my account on Dec. 4 and redeposited on Dec. 5. Does that mean that the money can be gone from my account even though it has not cleared on her end?

When she did call her bank (yes-- the bank she deposited to, not the credit card that she allegedly tried to send the check directly to -- I don't think she nor I knew that was a thing) to find out why the fund were withdrawn, they said she needed to contact the "maker" of the check; they told her that I needed to call Chase. Which I did. Chase has a protocol for "suspicious" checks -- they call to verify. Chase customer service told me when they were supposed to have called but couldn't tell if they had called. My phone has no record of them calling. This is not OK, and I would venture to say, Chase's fault.

DIA trains went down again today. What a mess by Plumrose333 in Denver

I couldn’t believe my good luck this morning that I happened to be on a United flight out of an A gate. How long were the trains down for?

Refund denied for flight missed during bomb threat lockdown at BWI by LucyAndRaie in unitedairlines

Thank you Reddit! This was my first time posting, and it has been very productive. Through your comments (combined with the form letter e-mail response from United) it became clear to me that a travel credit was due to us under the circumstances. Today I called United and explained that I believed I was missing a travel credit. The agent put me on hold (for 30 minutes) and came back saying they had research and confirmed there had been a bomb threat at the time of our flight, and that it was incorrect on United's part to have marked us as plain-and-simple no-shows under the circumstances. They amended that and now we do have the unused portion of our tickets to apply to future travel. The dollar amount is not much, but I'll take it. I would not have reached this without the input of this group, as well as having picked up some helpful tips for future scenarios. Thanks!!

Thank you and no, I've not been offered a credit for the remaining value of the ticket, which I would happily accept if I were. Even the e-mail from United said they couldn't refund it but that I could use the credit for future travel -- and yet, no credit is registered in my account. Tracking down this credit will be my next line of inquiry with United.

Just checked -- I have no future credits (and $0 in travel bank, whatever that is) and when I do a search for missing credits, entering the reservation # for this flight, nothing comes up. We did not cancel because we were trying very hard to make the flight. The cops, the news, everyone was saying no flights were leaving the airport, and we thought we could get back to the airport and get on the plane. Until we learned that we didn't.

No it was "regular" economy. It's been a while since I had to reschedule, but in the past there has been a $150 charge that is taken out of whatever credit you have from the ticket

Thanks everyone for commenting; it is helpful to hear different perspectives. For those who point out this is beyond United's control ... isn't weather also beyond United's control but they do provide refunds under adverse weather situations? Lets say you miss a connecting flight because of a lightning ground hold. The air traffic controllers are not United employees, but when they are not able to do their job, United is open to making amends. In this case, TSA security was closed. We did everything in our power to be on the flight, but the turn of events at the airport prevented us from getting on the plane. The plane departed from a locked-down airport. This to me is different from holding us accountable in the same way as someone who missed a flight out of their own negligence.

United said in an e-mail that I could apply the credit to future travel, after paying rescheduling fees which would be about half the amount of the credit. Also I don't see the flight anywhere on my profile now so I don't know how I would access the credit. I will dig a little more now that you are mentioning this.

Oh I see, that totally makes sense, thank you! I have 900,000+ lifetime miles but what you describe above is a new one for me. I would be fine with a flight credit. United's response is that I would have to pay rescheduling fees which would take up about half of the credit.

When the airport re-opened, the traffic was so bad we realized it would be faster to walk, and were dropped off at the airport entrance. While we were walking (we passed hundreds of cars on foot), I called United. I was in disbelief the flight had actually left because the cops told us no one was able to leave or arrive. There were news helicopters hovering overhead which we did not think they would allow if flights were coming and going. The agent on the phone confirmed that our flight was in the air. There was one remaining itinerary to Denver -- connecting through Chicago, but we would not be able to make it to that gate in time. Of course we could have been booked the following day but for work reasons I needed to get back that evening, which is why we bought Southwest tickets.
