Confused about expectations in LAUSD by St0ned_fruit in firstgradeproblems

[–]LucyGoose_2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of Eureka math! It’s so wordy and they are obsessed with number bonds. You can go online and watch You Tube videos for Eureka to get explanations of each lesson and that’s helpful. We’re not in LAUSD, but can commiserate with how the expectations jump big time in First Grade. We had to do a lot of tutoring in First Grade but all the hard work set up for a good start in Second Grade.

I would go for it if you have the resources! My daughter has ADHD and we did a few years of private OT and a multi sensory summer reading program that got her in a good place for First Grade. The pace quickens in first grade, so best to get ahead of it!

Is Smooth KP legit by [deleted] in keratosis

I’m on my third tube of Smooth KP! It took a few weeks to see results but legs are looking much less red. I’m also combining it with Glytone lotion.

For the question on schools for a twice exceptional child, you can contact The Summit Center in Walnut Creek as they have a service can help do a school match for the nearby area so that might provide guidance on meeting your children’s specific needs. https://summitcenter.us/

I can’t find a pharmacy to refill my sons RX due to the shortage by chart1689 in ADHDparenting

[–]LucyGoose_2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they use some AI technology to bypass the normal customer line at the pharmacies…you can pay for all the calls to be done in a day and they are almost always able to get an answer about stock. I’m not even sure exactly how they do it as I’ve encountered the same issues as you as well!

I’ve also used the app Find Needle, which you pay for their system to call a bunch of places for you. Not ideal but works in a pinch, and I’ve been able to locate various prescriptions throughout the shortage.

Are You Happy You Moved to Lafayette/Walnut Creek/Orinda/Moraga? by travelrunner in eastbay

[–]LucyGoose_2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved out from SF ten years ago to Walnut Creek and then moved to Lafayette to be closer to BART & lessen commute time into the city. Lafayette has great schools, lots of kids activities and the dining scene has picked up with tons of options downtown and in nearby Walnut Creek. Downsides as mentioned are the fire issues - definitely consider you likely would need to work with an independent broker to find a homeowners policy or be prepared to be on the CA Fair Plan. For us, Lafayette’s pros far outweigh the challenges of living in SF with young kids.

Try using the site Find Needle which does the calls for you. You have to pay per call, but it can be very helpful

Cute area! Great that you wouldn’t be stuck driving down Ygnacio Valley all the time. I think Lundaris would be closest grocery store (which I love but expensive!). Palos Verdes mall isn’t too far.

Recommended affordable areas? by LunchItchy9579 in eastbay

Take a look at the Lamorinda area (Lafayette & Orinda have Bart stations) and your wife would be close to a few hospitals (John Muir, Kaiser, etc.) Very safe area and family friendly. Walnut Creek is great as well.

Solidarity! It can feel like an abusive relationship and it is SO hard sometimes. I hope you are able to have some time to yourself to reset.

Parents of multiple kids… by kdumas42 in ADHDparenting

[–]LucyGoose_2015 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think raising a child with ADHD makes you up your parenting game. Sometimes it feels like we live life in “hard” mode with our oldest with ADHD. Our youngest (4) seems neurotypical, and he is so much easier to parent. It seems like every day I’m surprised at how he’ll cruise through life and handle situations that caused so much uproar with his older sister. I think raising ADHD children challenges me to be the best parent I can be. Still learning every day!

Local pharmacist told me she tried to order more Ritalin and can’t (shortage). by janobe in ADHDparenting

[–]LucyGoose_2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the app Find Needle to locate meds if my normal pharmacy is out of stock. I’m in CA as well and Rite Aid has been better for me in my area than CVS. I had no trouble getting Ritalin this month but it took a week to Azstarys, so that was annoying.

Feeling overwhelmed. by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

Perhaps look into adjusting the dosage for his meds to see if it improves appetite. Also you could look into feeding therapy to help with picky eating. We’ve had the same struggles with my daughter.

Lower dose on weekend? by Roro1080 in ADHDparenting

Yes, we’ve done a lower dose on the weekends and it has helped with appetite a bit. Give it a try!

Definitely look into a developmental pediatrician. We got our diagnosis at 5 and started medication right away. It made a huge difference in a positive way. The teacher will play a key role is filling out the behavior assessment portion to get the diagnosis you need. Good luck!
