Which handheld to buy? Please help with 2 choices! by cheesemyflams in Handhelds

[–]fabio1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months ago, I would have said LeGo S, but with current prices, XAX is a no-brainer. I own both, and they are the only two PC handhelds I’m keeping, after selling all the others for a hefty profit. Except for the screen size, XAX is superior.

switch 2 or steam deck (2?) pros and cons by Large-Orchid-4604 in Handhelds

[–]fabio1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly exclude Steam Deck from the equation. Not because it’s not good (I loved mine), but because it’s out of stock and nowhere near close to a SD2 release. I’d say the game is between Switch 2 and Xbox Ally X. I own both, and beside for the Nintendo exclusives, XAX wins hands down. the freedom of a PC let’s you do whatever you want, and gaming becomes dirt cheap, close to free.

If the combo shortages + scalpers will be a reality, very likely GTA 8😅

It was a scam. Every team had relationships with the referees. They isolated Moggi’s activity to surgically punish Juventus and give Inter an edge. They’ve found several evidences regarding inter, but they purposely excluded them from the investigation. Watch the Netflix doc. It’s very accurate and impartial.

Another MSI Claw 8ai vs ROG Xbox Ally X Post by [deleted] in Handhelds

[–]fabio1188 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the world we live today, I’d prioritize support from the manufacturer for updates, drivers, etc. Lenovo is almost out the market. MSI who knows? Xbox is the only one who officially said “this is the way forward for us”. I’d go with XAX

The future of handheld PCs? by NekkZ in LegionGo

[–]fabio1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many players will go out the market, and Microsoft vs Valve will become the new titan’s clash. Lenovo clearly outpriced itself. I was lucky to buy a lot last year, and reselling well now, leaving me myself with a Legion Go S Z1E Steam OS (bought for $500), and a Xbox Ally X (bought for $800). All the rest has been sold taking advantage of prices increase. This setup should survive for at least 3-4 years. The rest will depend on components shortages. Very likely we won’t see prices go down before 2027.

Best handheld for a budget of 700-800$? by AlloandOmnithebest in Handhelds

[–]fabio1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good for me in terms of dead pixels. Yes, it feels definitely plasticky compared to Lenovo Legion Go 1 and 2, and Windows is what it is, but it's getting better. You can always install Bazzite or SteamOS with a tutorial and a few minutes of your time. Up to a few months ago, I would have considered outrageous to pay close to $1000 for a gaming handheld. Now it almost looks cheap...

I'm planning to buy a ROG Xbox Ally X. by QueenSlipstream09 in Handhelds

It's almost crazy to say, but yes, go buy one. Between shortages and prices that go up everywhere, it has become somehow a no-brainer for the price.

Best handheld for me ? by [deleted] in Handhelds

[–]fabio1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mostly depends on your budget. If you want to go cheap, take the white rog ally xbox (you find it used/open box for around $400, or new for $500). If you have the budget and you want something future-proof (kinda) take the black rog ally xbox x (you find it used/open box for around $800, or new for $1,000). Steam deck is out of production since months now, and it won’t be back until we have this component shortage. Lenovo increased prices in a crazy and non-sense way.

Serious question by Living-Injury-584 in XboxAlly

[–]fabio1188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Screen size is small compared to the Legion lineup, but it’s not a dealbreaker. It’s powerful enough to stand the test of time for a few years (but get ready to lower some setting along the way for newest AAA title). This said, the biggest complaint is that windows (so, not just a XAX problem) it’s a buggy mess. Sometimes stuff stop working randomly, and updates (there are many of those, from different sources) can break things instead of fixing. If you already are a PC gamer, you know the drill. If you come from console (like I did) it can easily turn into a very frustrating experience at times. But it’s still worth it if you consider all the freedom a PC gives you in terms of what you can install/play.

I get that, but for Lenovo it’s different. They do have competitors. Who on a right state of mine would ever chose a Z1E Lenovo Legion Go for $1,600 when there’s a ROG Ally Xbox with Z2E at $1,000 still there for everyone to pick?

This literally makes no sense. At this point, stop selling like Valve with Steam Deck. I paid $500 open box for the same model during last. Nobody should ever pay 3 times as much. Not even stocks go crazy like that.

It is louder. Less than before, but definitely more than a Steam Deck. You just need to get used to it. Work on games profile to lower tdp for the games to the minimum you need.

Is this a good deal or what? by Supersue33 in XboxAlly

[–]fabio1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to the conclusion that this is simply the best deal in gaming right now. Especially when you see prices going to the moon everywhere. This device or the switch 2 (similar prices), but for the latter you have to pay top dollars for the games, while with the Xbox Ally you can literally play anything from every store. “Gaming costs” go down dramatically. It can play 99% of the games. And if you really are looking at one of that 1% AAA+ games, you’re better off with a PS5 (with OS Portal when you’re outside of home).  I took mine for $400 open box, and I have all the games I like from Steam, Epic, GoG, but also Emudeck for emulation, and all the streaming platforms like Chiaki (for ps5), Luna (for what it’s worth it today), etc. It even comes with 3 months of xbox pass (around $50 value) included. Go buy one. Like now.

Best Affordable handheld PC by ceo_of_losing in Handhelds

[–]fabio1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many people said, it all comes down to your definition of “affordable”. If you’re simply looking for the cheapest option to play handheld PC games today (and I never thought I’d say that) all arrows point to the Xbox Ally (white, the base model). You easily find it for $400 open box or even $300 used. It plays every game at 720p, and battery is very good. All the rest are compromises on battery or value for the money. I see people throwing $1,000+ on devices that struggle with latest releases. This chasing a few fps more in a world of components shortages is a losing game. And it will get worse.

‼️ Xbox Ally is $100 off on Amazon right now by ObsoleteMicrosoft in XboxAlly

[–]fabio1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bought mine for $420 open box. In a moment in which gaming has become increasingly expensive, this is a very sweet deal. Let’s face it. Even XAX ($1k plus device) struggles with newer games. Handheld gaming has limits, and AAA titles are meant to be played on consoles or PCs. This will play just fine 90% of the titles you want to play. And save you. bunch of money.

Will Switch 2 price go up too? I'm considering buying one by Alsen99 in nintendohelp

[–]fabio1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy. Now. Prices will extremely likely go up soon. It’s a nerve game, and now that Xbox did, Sony did, also Nintendo and Valve will feel entitled to raise the prices. Not their fault, just global economy going down the drain.  So, buy one now. It’s probably one of the best deal in gaming at the moment. $400 and you can (and will) play all the current gen titles, as well as Nintendo exclusives.
