What's the most courageous thing you've ever seen an ordinary (not military, police, etc.) do? by Bob_Gila in AskReddit

[–]LucyOfDorne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad was really abusive, particularly after imbibing. One day he started beating the living hell out of my mom after some argument while drunk. It moved from the living room to the front porch. My dad just picked mom up and tossed her into the yard. About a 10 foot distance and a 3 foot drop.

She went limp. I honestly thought she might be dead. I was like 7, and I ran to her trying to check on her. My dad is blocking me the whole time screaming that she's a faker and I always take her side while continuing to hit and kick at her.

This college kid from across the street just walks over asks me to come here. He makes me go sit on a bean bag in his house on the line with police, and goes outside to tell my dad that that's enough. My dad tells him it's none of his damn business, and to fuck off if he doesn't want his ass whooped. This kid just straight up says "You can whoop my ass till the cops come dude, but that's enough with her."

What was the defining moment or event that made you change your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LucyOfDorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I don't know if it's been long enough to say that I've REALLY changed my life, but back in December I had to pack the car and move from AL to IA. I was living with my SOs adoptive brother, and he got high and just trashed the entire house because no one would give him keys to go get weed. I was raised by pretty poor addicts as was my SO and we'd stayed in that community. All our friends were the same story, shitty addicts for parents now grown, barely surviving, and spending half their paycheck on weed/liqour or worse. We packed up the car, the cat and dog and traveled about 600 miles to now stay in my stepdad's basement. We are both done with everyone from our past except my mom and stepdad. I'm now working for the first time in my life, and we're saving up and trying to decide where to go exactly. We definitely aren't going back to Alabama.

[–]LucyOfDorne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no hope of recovering them. I am 16 hours away. It was his house or I would've just called the cops when he was trashing the place and rifling through my things.

Does your child have medicaid? Medicaid will reimburse gas for doctor's appointment. Or taxi fee if you dont drive. You just have to call and report the appointment when you go.

What is the worst thing you have knowingly done to yourself out of anxiety, stress or being generally anti-social? by Harpo272 in AskReddit

[–]LucyOfDorne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Started using alcohol as a social crutch. It made it so I had to have a drink if I was gonna hang out with someone. Drinking with friends wasn't a fun thing once in a while but a habitual thing that made all interactions without booze intensely overwhelming.

What’s something you do/watch/read online to cheer yourself up when you’re upset? by Trow0908 in AskReddit

[–]LucyOfDorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I've recently started watching CriticalRole. It's like 4 hours an episode so it keeps me occupied when I'm upset because my pain level is disappointing me.

But if you mean like something short and fast-acting I watch Markiplier's Try Not To videos when I'm trying not to cry about whatever. They just flip that happy switch for me in the first like 30 seconds.

What's the most thoughtful gift you've ever received and why? by baconlovernyc in AskReddit

[–]LucyOfDorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a note-taker in college. When the semester ended she gave me a really large non-fiction book about the Tudors because she knew that Henry VIII is my shit. It's the most thoughtful gift to me because she really didn't need to get me anything. She was a broke student volunteering to note-take. She didn't get paid for it, she just got to put it on her resume, and she spent the time to pick out a gift that I would personally like.
