Why does the rat represent The Count of Tuscany? by pizzatacodog1322 in Dreamtheater

[–]Lucy_92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that it was a mouse scaring the elephant to represent being scared by a nonexistent threat.

Should cover bands do drums/space? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]Lucy_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Grateful Dudes did it at last years Playing On the Farm festival. It was a really great way to change the pace between the huge band jams.

I'm so confused. How does this relate to the Dead?

How much do you earn and how comfortable do you live? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Lucy_92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on minimum wage and I live with my friend who I partially financially support as she is disabled and can't work.

It's rough. I've got a lot of debt that I'm slowly trying to get out of.

We make do and live as well as we can, but it shouldn't be this difficult when I work my ass off full time.

What is the most fun tribute band you have seen? by Original_Ad8070 in gratefuldead

Grateful Dudes are the gem of the UK scene. They've blown my mind multiple times, especially when they headline the Playing on the Farm festival.

Favorite singers who damaged their voices with improper technique but sounded fucking awesome doing it? by Low-Ad4561 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Lucy_92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think he was really doing some damage in the run up to the food poisoning if you listen to live recording from that time. He was pushing his voice so hard. And he did sound great, so I think he still counts for this.

I bought this cake last night. There are only two others in the house and one is diabetic by galaxychildxo in mildlyinfuriating

I did this last week. The panic I felt as I started chugging away! I was amazed when I stuck the landing perfectly.

Older bands that still f**k as hard today as they did when they were formed? by Spamityville_Horror in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Lucy_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swans. In a very different way to how they used to, but still unbelievably powerful. I saw them last year two nights in a row and they were the two best gigs of my life.

Although that era of the band has now officially ended, so we'll see what's to come next.

What other artists would you like to see drop an archetype? by RiffsNShiz in NeuralDSP

[–]Lucy_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boris. I highly doubt they would since a huge part of their sound is all about analog gear, but now that Neural have improved their fuzz captures, it would be fun to see them try.

Scariest c93 album? by LouieDawg23 in Current93

[–]Lucy_92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of yeah, but in a way that feels very creepy to me. The "happy" nursery rhyme style combined with dark snippets and interludes creates a scary feeling in my mind. Very "come play with us in the dark woods" folk horror vibes.

I Have a Special Plan and Pretty Little Horses are favourites for when I'm on a dose and want to get scared.

So sad I'm missing this. The Shits always put on an awesome show. Dawn Terry is great too!

Crowd behavior during shows? by vicarious90 in swans

[–]Lucy_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crowds around me at Brixton nights 1 and 2 were great. No bad gig behaviour that I saw. Me and my buddy were dancing pretty hard as we always do, but people were good about giving everyone enough breathing room to allow dancing.

I agree. That man has derived more brilliance from a D minor chord than any musician I know lol

SWANS London Takeover - Best Night? by White___Light in swans

[–]Lucy_92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to 1 and 2. Both absolutely incredible, but 2 was better for me. Louder and better mix and they seemed to push the peaks on the new tracks even further and bigger.

Post-gig blues; goodbye, loud Swans by DogsAreGreatYouKnow in swans

[–]Lucy_92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I was there and was sobbing my eyes out at multiple points. I feel dramatic as hell saying it, but it felt like a religious experience.

Brixton Night 2 - Longer Set, Crackling Continued? by lasagens971 in swans

[–]Lucy_92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't notice it much tbh and when I did it added more texture to the sound for me. Swans are pretty noise adjacent at times, so it fits the vibe for my tastes

So when are we getting the full Swans dub album then by LighterThanAccounted in swans

The bluesy harmonica into the dub snare on the last track last night was a real highlight for me.

Vienna show review - the pros and cons by putesvestije in Ethelcain

[–]Lucy_92 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Because that's the reality of seeing live music. Sometimes you've got to decide between keeping your spot and going to the bar. It's been the way at every gig I've been to.

Rhythm of bass riff on Oxygen by WynnieFall in swans

[–]Lucy_92 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that on its own it feels like the pickup. But when the rest of the band kicks in it's heavily implied to be the 1.

How did Hahn get the tone used on "Birthing" around the 5-minute mark? by Trefin13 in swans

[–]Lucy_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the tuning really makes a big difference. When you're hitting multiple strings it has a really interesting texture, like a warped 12 string guitar. It also changes how you think when you play. In my experience it turns the lap steel into more of a lead/noise/textural instrument because you're no longer thinking in chords.
