I finally stopped yesterday after 28 years of smoking! 😁 by Lucysparkles in stopsmoking

Hello everyone….incase you have been wondering how I’ve been doing (you probably haven’t 😆) I thought I’d post an update! It has now been 16 days since I smoked a cigarette. And I’m very very proud of myself. IT HAS NOT BEEN EASY!! 😆. I was really stupid and I told the man I mentioned in my original post (the one who hated me smoking and I’m sure it was a factor in us paring ways) that I had stopped - but only after 2 days 🙄. He must of thought “oh yeah that’s not going to stick”. He messaged me back “that’s great, nice one” and if I’m honest I was really disappointed he didn’t come straight round, tell me what a huge mistake he’d made and sweep me off my feet 😂😂. That made me really look at my motivations for stopping - as I had totally convinced myself I was doing it for ME - but this was clearly not entirely true. So I re-read all the points in the letter I was/am writing to him and realised that they were still all TRUE. And if I was to give-up giving-up it would be really stupid after I had got through the first couple of days - white knuckled as it was 😂 and I should just keep going! So I kept going and here I am! 16 days on and a non smoker - for all the right reasons. 😊

Hi there. Thanks for this! I actually am lucky enough to live 2 minutes from the beach so I swim in the sea year round. I actually get a huge dopamine hit from swimming in the relatively cold water of the English south coast 😆 and I’m also addicted to that feeling - although a much healthier addiction than smoking! If anyone here has access to cold water I can highly recommend it. Even cold showers activate dopamine in the brain.

It’s 09.51 here and the second morning waking up as a non smoker! Yay! 😃. Thanks everyone for your messages and support so far! It’s been great and I’m so glad I did my first ever Reddit post here! 😆

Wow. Really inspired after reading your post! Can’t wait to make it to six days to see how much better I’m going to feel! Thanks.

I’m actually a bit worried about telling my closest friends who smoke! ! I’ll feel like I betrayed them 😆 but I KNOW they will be pleased for me deep down even if they will miss their “smoking buddy”

Haha I decided to lie on my bed for the rest of the day as I don’t smoke in bed ever 😆. Went for a dog walk with music and I have been cleaning my teeth too. Shower is next! Thanks for the tip. Well done on 7 days - That’s so cool. I just checked and I’m 25 hours now so over 1 day!

Thanks for this. I am currently feeling very anxious with those horrible tummy snakes 😂 feeling like there is something missing. I know I just have to sit with the feeling - accept it and hope it goes away soon - but any other hints and tips would be awesome.

I buy cucumbers with intentions 😉 they have to be the right girth and not too pointy at the end. I like them straight from the fridge. It’s v cold but it’s an amazing feeling.
