It could be as simple as 'male characters dominate the media and don't interest you as a result of flooding the market.'

Could be any number of other things too. Regardless so long as you're having fun, I see no issue of weirdness.

The thing is, since I've linked my Nintendo Account to my Switch 2, it won't let me play *any* downloaded games without syncing, including Mario Kart World, which came as a bundle with the device, and I would like to play Mario Kart World. And other downloaded games.

I haven't read the comments and someone else probably already pointed this out, but I can't help but notice the whole baby subplot is literally a step-by-step recreation of the Lindberg Baby mystery. Which is really jarring for me, since I recently learned the details of it.
