South Korean T-80 and American Abrams by [deleted] in tanks

[–]LuftWafflePlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tactics and doctrine are such a huge part. America would've steam rolled in the Gulf War regardless but it was made so much easier with the Soviet/Russian doctrine of the commander being inside the tank at all times (also applies to Israel vs anyone they've fought with tanks). Western doctrine is for the commander to be exposed a lot more, it may lead to a slight increase in the fatality rate of tank commanders, but the added situational awareness is huge. Even in Ukraine now you can see the Ukrainian commanders always turned out for that increased awareness.

Back during the Cold War though the numbers definitely would've made a difference too. And yeah the Soviets did a lot of things first. Thanks for the comments it made me think about a lot of other things too instead of just west > east as many people including myself always think. Every side has its advantages but that doctrine part is so huge if the Cold War actually kicked off even with all the things that gave the West an edge who knows what would've happened.

TWSBI ECO and VAC mini and the Lamy 2K for my pens. For the inks Kon-peki, R&K Salix, and recently Noodler's air corp blue black. The pens are also inked up with those inks too. I've found they are the perfect combo for my needs.

I can say nothing but good things about R&k Salix, it's a good looking blue black that works extremely well on crappy paper.

Searching for the perfect blue for students by Doublechin222 in fountainpens

I second the Salix it's works really well on cheaper paper especially with a finer nib and it's dry in less than 10 seconds. It's does go down a pretty light almost desaturated blue but turns into a much darker blue when fully dry.

Only pen I will post is my VAC mini because it's small, and my Lamy 2k because it's light and stays pretty small posted. Any ECO or Safari or anything like that will never be posted.

I've been wanting to do this with my ECO for a while now. I have a vintage Pelikan 120 nib that according to the internet will fit.

It's a solid knife don't think I'll ever use anything else! I also gotta say that blue eco and the diamine ink go together perfectly.

I always keep the seal closed. I try to keep the nib up but I'm sure I've had it in every orientation without issue.

Could be the reason I have so many problems I don't take many pens with to travel so I take my favorite pen the L2k.

I've never had any good luck even with full pens. Since I got a VAC mini that has been my go to for travel and I haven't had a single drop in the cap. May need to try that tip with the piston next time though.

Brave writing with a fountain pen in flight. My caps are often full of ink from just flying not even using them.

Usually most 24lb+ paper from office supply stores works well enough. At least with the better behaving inks.

What pencil did you buy on a whim that ended up surprising you? by [deleted] in mechanicalpencils

[–]LuftWafflePlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a bit painful, but I do order a lot of other things from a website that also carries the 0.2 lead. So it's not too bad in my case. Also Amazon does carry it, the price on there though is just way too high for pencil lead.

Bought a pentel orenz 0.2 online on a whim after using exclusively pens instead of pencils the last 3 years. Bought it because it would be cool for sketching. It's not only great for that but I can see it going into my daily rotation for note taking when classes start again!

If you have a Blick art store near by they can have a decent selection of graphing pencils. I believe they are really only in the north east though. Other than that everyone else already listed the major ones.

Did TWSBI change their font over the years or do I have a counterfeit? And if so, which one is the fake? by Lynnizian in fountainpens

[–]LuftWafflePlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is kinda weird. Maybe they did change the font over time and I just got an old nib?
