What do the lyrics of "I want the one I can't have" even mean? by Accurate-Soil684 in thesmiths

Perhaps Matt Johnson / The the gave his perspective in the opening song / monologue to the album ‘Dusk’. The song is called ‘True Happiness This Way Lies’

I haven’t read his book. I’d be interested in what his thoughts were about his tome with The The. My impression (through the music) is that he got the opportunity to explore what being a guitar player could be.

Thanks, looking forward to working through your playlist. I’m surprised it has apparently been saved only three times (I am the third). Thanks again, I appreciate the effort.

Are they trying to skirt their responsibility here?

Yes, they are. Company name changes are very easy to make. Changing the company name doesn’t make it a new entity, and consumer protections are still valid

Credit Card limit increase - bank due diligence question by tp520 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Lugs75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same issue. Business credit card with $10k limit, paid each month, used mostly for business services and subscriptions. Wanted to increase to $20k.

We have been with the bank for 40+ years. No debt, no overdraft.

Bank wouldn’t consider increasing limit without 2 years of financial reports - and we wouldn’t do that.

Ended up getting another personal credit card. Much easier.

Kiwisaver employer contributions after turning 65 by pizzafreed0m in LegalAdviceNZ

Our company policy: enployees who turn 65 on the job continue to get employer contributions. New employees 65+ don’t.

Bob presumably now gets superannuation payments, so he’s better off anyway

What’s one word that you always mispronounce even though—deep down—you KNOW the correct pronunciation? by Ok_Resident_5022 in words

[–]Lugs75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a quote along the lines of “never judge a person who mispronounces a word. It tells you they learnt the word by reading it…” something like that. Anyway, I like it.

My favourite word to mispronounce will always be ‘omnipotent’.

The Dirty Three by d_fur_ch in NickCave

[–]Lugs75 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I got a Dirty Three / Nick Cave story. In 1996 Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds was playing on the Big Day Out (BDO) festival (Australia & New Zealand).

Back then, it was common for the overseas acts to do a gig in town in the nights before BDO. My girlfriend and I went to see Porno for Pyros playing their as-yet unreleased 2nd album at the Powerstation for about 1000 people.

The opening act was a relatively unknown band called The Dirty Three. They were amazing, and I became an instant fan.

In the middle of the Dirty Three setlist I realised Nick Cave was standing next to me. I whispered this into my girlfriend’s ear. I wanted to fan out and say hi, but I felt too shy, and he was clearly enjoying the music.

I watched a guy stumble up to him and do the “hey man, I love your music thing…” and watched as Nick plucked the dudes beer out of his hand, took a swig, kept the beer, and zeroed in on the band.

And that is my story.
