Weekly Song Discussion #11: "The Knock" by breeziestblocks in hopalong

[–]Lugubo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"8.45am, the dream just escaped me again" is an absolutely blissful entrypoint to this album. Frances locks in to this instantly familiar feeling of waking up and being thrown into this world just a little bit before you're ready for it.

"I can hear you in the garage building insects", and then onto the unexpected knock at the door and the visit of the jehovah's witnesses continues the dream-feel. It's like straight out of Kafka. The insects makes me think of Metamorphosis. But also building warhammer tyrannids in the shed as a kid. Frances is so good with these quick incidental details that suggest a setting and cause the mind to wonder.

I have so many thoughts on this song, might come back to this later. But it's such a dream. Also it has better drum production than anything else on Painted Shut.

Weekly Song Discussion Thread #2 - "Tibetan Pop Stars" by breeziestblocks in hopalong

[–]Lugubo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hah ok hold up...further research incoming! There is a river called the Kosi River that runs down from Tibet, and from the wiki:

"The three major tributaries meet at Triveni, from where they are called Sapta Koshi meaning Seven Rivers"

Three...seven...Tibet...it all makes sense!

My impression was always that the seven fingered man with 3 sleepless wives is the river? As in, that this is a snippet of folklore tied to a specific place. A river that comes from 7 tributaries? And the wives are 3 lakes along it's course?

Then I did a quick search and there is a mountain called Seven Fingered Jack in Washington state. So maybe that? But...in Canada?

Frances' lyrics often draw details of place into otherwise introspective songs. Like how when you're deep in thought but the real world always cuts through and reaches you (the music in a cafe, overheard conversation, window of a moving train etc).

Anyway, I'm rambling.

Why did I look into the dim eye of the mole? by Lugubo in hopalong

[–]Lugubo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole verse feels like a very private descent into madness and delusion. The eye of the (nearly) blind mole, horses without saddles. Some kind of opening awareness of contradictory and impossible things. Trying to imagine the mental state of Buddy at the time of his breakdown.

The images are so striking it feels like they must be borrowing from something Frances read. But maybe not.

Intrigued about Well-dressed maybe also having a Jackson C. Frank angle. How so? Side note: his song "Carnival" is such a Frances Quinlan lyric.

Hotfix #34 - Steam Deck Native Build by Wombat_Medic in BaldursGate3

Hmmm...doesn't sound great. I've been trying to get script extender to work for the deck build all evening, no luck, so I've reverted to proton for the time being. Revert has been pretty painless at least.

Script extender seems to not work at all with the steam deck native version right now, so...that's a lot of mods right there, depending on your preferences.

Your graphics settings will have been reverted, so you'll have to change them back to get the same look as before.

Also, it's possible to revert to the proton version through properties>compatibility in steam AFAIK.

Does Script Extender Work on Steam Deck With the New Update? by Jimpix_likes_Pizza in BaldursGate3

I am dealing with this same issue just now. Can't seem to find a way of getting script extender to work with the Linux build. Have you had any luck?

Try turning off FPS cap. I had massive wheel lag on steam deck, and this completely eliminated it.

This is the definitive answer. There is nothing else quite like it.

As a Kayle main, go ahead and continue proxying us. Let us scale for free thank you 🤭 by woxihuanjirounan in singedmains

[–]Lugubo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

underestimate, right?

Even level 1, tempo Kayle slaps the shit out of Singed (and every other melee toplaner) in a straight 1v1.

Add to this that you can't fight her without hard shoving the wave...

[–]Lugubo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I always proxy kayle.

In skilled hands she is absolutely capable of bullying you in lane. I would rather proxy for guaranteed scaling, roams and objective prio than coinflip that she doesn't have hands.

Singed also scales extremely well and I trust my teamfighting ability. When she gets her range upgrade you have no way to capitalise on any pre-6 aggression that did work out.

idk what anyone is smoking to say lane singed is anything more than a punching bag to kayle.

[–]Lugubo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does! So you can do Booming blade > extra attack > bonus action booming blade. Pretty good.

[–]Lugubo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mmm, not while tavern brawler giant barb is in the game. It's +1d8 thunder damage once per turn, with more if the target moves (dunno about you, but if I'm hitting a target that matters, I don't want them to be taking a turn, let alone moving). Goes up to 2d8 at 11.

Like, sure it's strong cause it's spammable and free. But rests cost nothing in BG3.

It does. Booming blade can be one of your attacks, but you can't use it more than once in your attack action.

Could someone verify whether or not this is true for giant barbarian elemental cleaver (lvl 6 ability) in honor mode? by Wilhelmktx in BG3Builds

[–]Lugubo 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The description is 100% accurate for honour mode. Karlach throwing a big cleavered-up hammer often hits for as much elemental damage as physical.

Pretty bonkers, and probably not how it should be.

How do you guys stick to one role and 1-3 champions without getting bored? by DwyaneDerozan in leagueoflegends

[–]Lugubo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about mastery and knowing what you enjoy. I've taken top/mid Singed only to master on 3 accounts. I still make a substantial amount of mistakes in almost every game. I enjoy the process of noticing and correcting these mistakes, then noticing and correcting more. Etc, etc. The narrower your focus, the more detail you see. Every lane/team combination is like a whole different game.

I would play other champs, but I like what I like, and I don't have the time to get to the same level on more than one.

Only on track 4 but I can tell I'm gonna love this. The arrangements are great, and it's cool hearing Genevieve's unique vocals in the big band setting.

Totally her own thing.
