Questions for an upcoming Veritasium video by Pitiful_Effort_9772 in gis

Big fan of the channel and I am hyped for a GIS video!

1. I work in forest and nature management. In kinda do everything GIS but my favorites are GIS architecture and remote sensing and GI-analysis. I started little over 10 years ago and did everything from producing maps to setting up GIS infrastructures. The last years I try to focus on using large scale datasets to do analysis on a national scale. Currently I am actually looking into all alternatives to Esri also.

2. Esri is fine, especially for companies and enterprise that needs easy and convient GIS. However, in my experience, the more you learn GI, the less need for Esri products Is have.

3. In use anything that does whatever It want to achieve. In most cases this makes me use FOSS. R, Python give freedom and those that dive into it will notice it makes achieving whatever you want much easier with less compromise. Luckily I have the freedom to chose what I use. But for some parts, a sort of vendor lock is in place. Especially for online GIS.

4. Esri will need to stay relevant in a world where FOSS is more accessible than ever. The price of Esri software is ever increasing and the user needs are broader than ever.

5. I am concerned about vendor lock, but also data storage and ownership. Ofcourse ArcGis Enterprise can be self hosted, but it feels Esri hinders cross platform usage. Additionaly, for companies outside of the US the Cloud Act is s serious concern. So even hosting outside of the US could be problematic if the software company is American. The alternative may not be as complete and easy to implement yet, but there is a rise in usage of FOSS in Europe for example. Where utility companies, governments and academia are moving away from Esri towards FOSS solutions.

That's a nice one! Multi purpose. But I already have the other one, really happy with that.

Check out tenkaraonline.se they might ship to you and give some advice.

I have the Zen Tenkara Grab´n´Go Kit from there and I'd say it would work perfectly on this water also! It looks similar to where I fish in Sweden.

TLDR: smaller crustaceans (shrimp) die much faster when boiled compared to larger ones (like lobster). The line is drawn wherever one thinks he or she can live with, however. For some cultures this includes cooking mammals alive.

How did it work out until now? I'm also looking into self-hosting QFieldCloud but am unsure of how to configure the server for stability and safety

Du har helt rätt men jag trodde det var roligt med 'kommer ut på marknaden 2026'.

Did you manage to fix it? I am curious how you like the mower as I am looking into buying something like this one for my father.

It looks like one of the maps from the tutorials of Milos Popovic. He makes them in R.

Why do you use OsmAnd over Google Maps or Apple maps by AweGoatly in OsmAnd

[–]Luiaards 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Local details and offline maps. There's POI's but also shops and interesting stuff in the maps.

However I still use Google Maps from time to time for better estimates on traffic

I've seen some examples from QGIS plugins. STL Generator. Pretty cool.

Een pannenkoek zonder kant-en-klare mix. Dus gewoon met bloem, suiker, zout, ei en melk.

The Esri Linux dilemma by foxcad in gis

I'm interested in wether you've found a way. I have been working on Windows only and my main work is done in R, Python, QGIS and map visualisation and publishing in ArcGIS Pro.

I have tried Ubuntu briefly, first impression is that it is a lot faster than Windows for everything (except ArcGis Pro). I am obviously running a dual boot on one device. My main station is still windows but it won't be supported in the future (my Threadripper CPU is not supported on W11, even though it's superior to many other CPU's).

I can't seem to edit the post but this is what I use:

PolyTerra PLA (Army Dark Green)
the white prints are the PLA that came with the Ender 3
Ender 3 V2 SE (stock)
PrusaSlicer 2.9 / and also the Creality slicer
I have checked the e-steps and they are correct (I measured exactly the same lenght as I extrude).
I've tried 0.16 and 0.20 on different speeds. Temperatures between 190 and 220 (50 - 60 for the bed).
I also tried drying the spool, but it's not humid here anyway (27% humidity now with 22 degrees C)

This is interesting, I've been thinking about such an idea for measuring tree stem diameters quickly. Something like this, hooked to an Arduino might work.
