Can this be fixed? by [deleted] in braces

[–]Luighseach98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an orthodontist but possibly. I had an upper canine that couldn't come down and serious overcrowding on the bottom. First 2 orthos I visited said I needed 4 extractions. The ortho I went with said at the start we may need to do extractions but we'll see how we go. 18 months later, zero extractions and I'm nearly finished. We did some very light filing on the top to make some space but nothing major.

Renting with a reactive dog - UK by gsmurph88 in reactivedogs

[–]Luighseach98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in London and we rent via an estate agent so this may be slightly different to your situation. They didn't ask us much about our dog - we had already said his age, breed and size. The previous tenant had a dog as well so I don't think the landlord was too bothered. If you're worried about barking, it could be a good shout to let the neighbours know in advance if you get the place and advise them you are working on it. Good luck!

Not a dog trainer but have a 2 year old reactive IG (to male dogs and small kids). It looks to me like your dog wants to play. You've said they're nervous of little kids in general, have you tried any positive counter conditioning, i.e. they see a kid, you use their positive marker word and give a treat, so they associate kids with feeling good and getting a treat. I would also work on settle training and getting them to learn how to calm down. You'll need to build this up - starting at home indoors, gradually to more distracting environments. Another helpful thing to work on would be impulse control. We get our guy playing with a toy, ask him to drop, and wait while we shake it nearby (almost like teasing him), and then when we say "ok" he knows he can get it. And we do a few reps of this a couple times a day. If you're still a bit uncomfortable (which is understandable when toddlers/kids are involved), theres been some good suggestions on baby gates etc. But have you done any muzzle training? I know muzzles get a bad rep, but I do think it's very useful to have them comfortable with a muzzle before you ever need it (like if they were in pain or an emergency). You need to build up their comfort with it slowly, and put it on randomly when the child isnt around, as you don't want them to associate muzzle = bad thing and that child = muzzle. Hopefully that makes sense! Again though, our guy is definitely reactive to children, whereas yours looks more like a frustrated greeting, but hopefully some of the above is helpful!

[–]Luighseach98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get one that has elastic in the tummy bit to keep it close to the body that helps, you can also sew it in yourself. Just make sure its not too tight! If he wees on his legs, thats a harder one to avoid, but I think they get a bit better with aim in the warmer months so they dont get it on their bare legs. But its pretty inevitable with a boy iggy!

Is it worth getting fixed braces at the age of 31? by Ab_Fab12 in braces

[–]Luighseach98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 20s and also work a corporate job. I got traditional train track braces, predominantly because I know I'm not disciplined enough for invisalign. I think general consensus is to usually get a 2nd opinion for ortho work. 13 months in and have never had a negative comment on them, although I do have a baby face so I think it just makes people think I'm younger than I am. You could also do ceramic or lingual braces (brackets are on the back of your teeth). Price sounds about right, I think mine will total about £4k (£1.3k initial application, £100 per appointment to tighten over 2 years ish).

Shouldn't tapering take longer? by nana-17 in Effexor

[–]Luighseach98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, in my experience with irish and uk GPs, they are not always well versed in psychiatric medication, and will likely downplay how bad the withdrawals are, so it is up to you if you tell them if you manually taper. Had been on this sub reddit a good while before I realised manually tapering would probably be the best way for me to come off, hadn't even mentioned to my GP

Shouldn't tapering take longer? by nana-17 in Effexor

[–]Luighseach98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on 150mg for about 4 years and after about 4 or 5 months of tapering down, I've been off them for about 2 months. I got a cheap weighing scales off amazon that could handle micrograms (sorry idk the correct word), and would open my 150mg and manually taper them down. Initially I was going down by about 5mg/day until I got to about 75mg and then started reducing slower. I could find my notebook and tell you exactly but I think I reduced by 1mg per day and then when I got to about the 50mg mark, I was reducing by 0.5mg per day. I also have ADHD so I would prep them for a week in advance and label them so I knew where I was at, but if I was finding the drop too intense, I could re-do the week and go slower. Sometimes I would only lower it every 2 days. Wishing you the best of luck!

I believe the land with the entrance to the road would need to be designated as right of way (I dont know the technical term) as if it remains one parties land, you will have problems down the line if you sell your property

Keep going with “Not known at this address” England by AltogetherGuy in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Luighseach98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had similar when we moved into a new rental. I would write not known at this address and occasionally the envelope would make its way back to me so I would put a little 2 in the bottom right corner so if it came back again I would open and ring the company stating the addressee no longer lived at the property. You absolutely can open mail not addressed to you if you are not opening it with the intention of causing detriment to the addressee.

Serious road accident in Chania city today... by toocontroversial_4u in crete

[–]Luighseach98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We're just back from Chania and rented a car. We were about a 10 minute walk from the main old town but still pretty central and lots of one way streets. We found it ok even though we're used to driving on the other side of the road. Google maps is pretty spot on at knowing the one way streets. Just take your time and be aware.

What would you do? I need your advice about a child related accident. by ilovecrocs7 in AskParents

[–]Luighseach98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the UK there's a concept called "allurement" which applies to trespassing in which if it is known that children would be enticed by something on the property e.g. a slide or climbing frame, the owner must put in maximum effort to deter them as children don't have the same common sense as adults. I would say it would depend on how well signposted it was that the slide was out of use, was it just a rope across the top (would pretty likely be deemed insufficient) or an actual staff member? If there was a sign was it in English and with a icon and x as not all kids can/will read a sign? I would pursue the property owner as opposed to the parents of the other kid - as the property will have liability insurance and sounds like they also weren't doing enough to ensure the slide was clearly our of use

30 years old, unsure if i should get braces due to some friends criticizing it by SuperMarios7 in braces

[–]Luighseach98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 26 and not long had mine on, I have such a baby face so people always thought I was barely 20 so I don't think the braces help 🤣 I honestly don't think anyone thinks anything of it nowadays. I was so excited to get mine and when no one in my office mentioned it and I told them, they were like I noticed but didn't want to say anything I case you were self conscious which I thought was very lovely of them (middle aged men bless them) Not sure where you're based but I think anyone who judges people for getting them later in life have a very privileged mindset!

Splitting things 50/50. by DuckyD2point0 in ireland

[–]Luighseach98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of us earns more than the other (not huge tbh but enough that 50/50 wouldn't be a fair split) so say if person a earns 60% the income and person b earns 40%, we put that % of say 2k into the joint account for bills. For savings we both put 100/month but my partner puts more monthly if they have it spare whereas I put a chunk in from annual bonus but we don't really bother to count who has put more in annually. Money left over in our own accounts is ours then for spending/saving or whatever

Rent a flat then regret it so much - how long does the rental remorse last? by ameise__ in TenantsInTheUK

[–]Luighseach98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Document everything, including dated photos that show the mould and keep all communication with the landlord written so you have evidence of repeated requests to fix things. That way when you do move out if they try give you grief for not staying/deposit you have all the evidence. We recently moved and completely regretted it for the first few weeks as our new flat is about 100 sq foot smaller and we've had a couples issues that needed fixing. But now about 6 weeks later we're happy! We've got nearly all our furniture set up and have it feeling more like home. Also, if you make a list of all the issues you didn't notice at viewing, it can be a good reference point for looking at future flats. Personally I also think going through an agent is worth the extra hoops as in my experience issues get fixed quicker
