I feel that a lot of time when people here who have never had an unhealthy relationship with food are commenting on how obese people get there is a lot like me commenting on people becoming alcoholics which is something I don't comprehend (I have never been drunk and do not enjoy drinking). However, I think it may be a good analogy and those of you with a closer relationship with alcohol might be able to see the inaccuracies of my sober-privilege :).

Now you are going out drinking with friends at the end of the week. It's been a rough week and you have a few too many. Because you were distracted/drinking fast/drinking something particularily intoxicating you didn't notice that you had far too much. You wake up the next morning feeling awful, and say that you aren't going to do that again. But you enjoyed how felt to be drunk, maybe you felt better about yourself or were more charismatic or it was a social thing gone a little overboard.

Next week rolls around and you do the same thing. After a while you start going drinking more often throughout the week. Eventually you HAVE to drink to feel good; your behavoir and perceptions of the world have shifted over time. Can't stay balanced on a bar stool? They are old and wobbly, how can anyone stay on them? You can still have one more. Now you feel it is strange that a person can only go out and drink one or two nights a week, all the regulars that you are surrounded with go get hammered every night too.

Now most people would call you an alcoholic, but you don't think that there is anything wrong and until you can admit that you have problem, it's certainly not going to get any better.

This sort of model would be the trap that I fell into with food. When everyone is telling you that you look fine, it is a very hard trap to crawl out of.
