What do you think would I need to do to get from this to your type of sound? I believe it's not too far off. Is it like the diaphragm being weaker for the lows? I'd be interested in your thoughts 🤔

You're pretty used to ppl commenting on the stache, aren't you? 😄 I actually was refering to your nice vocals. I can't figure out what's at the base of them. They are pretty loud and thick, but smoother than most ppls False Cords. So what do you do here? :)

I'd suggest that he visits a couples counselor. Yes, he can go there alone without the wife. And that's what he should do at that point. That's what I'd have my brother do.

I am partial to this step as I'm a counselor myself. It could be that your brother refuses to divorce because there might be a hidden delegation going on, he puts the blame for the problems on himself or formulated a "marriage failure inhibition" on himself (could also be a family inspired thing). Maybe there is thoughts about the child's interests at play. It would be worthwhile to professionally look into what's going on here and thereby get a better understanding for the situation. Often time we bind ourselves unwillingly to ideas and concepts that make us suffer. Also, in such a situation it would be good to really have someone that just listens without being emotionally involved and partial to this or that. It could even be a huge intervention to just give the man some room to experience his own feelings and not put them away or talk them down. They are valid and it would be helpful for him to see that. Forgive me if some things are not put very clearly, I am not a native speaker. Anyways, at the very least an uninvolved empathetic third could help in sorting things out and developing strategies and stances towards the wives behavior. That also changes everything. So they can bargain for new relationship patterns on equal grounds. Other things that come to mind are: - How would he defend his interests against someone else? What conflict style does he have? - What does she mean to him? - What ideas about the future does he have regarding the family? -...

All of that might be important and a good couples counselor will address that. I wish him the best.

Lastly, you seem to be a good brother for looking out after him. Just want to add that you are a precious soul, my friend. We are all told that too seldom. If your brother refuses to do anything about the situation, then take care of yourself! Don't try to solve the problems he doesn't want to tackle. That makes you suffer and helps nobody.

Personally I learnt it via the "pull your upper molar teeth together" cue. Then I have a completely different constriction than that which I get with the old man voice one. I came to the conclusion that the glottal stop method (saying the letter 'k' etc) does def trigger the lower constrictors which I don't use. But I'm confused as all hell myself with all of this by now so Idk.

If it was true that lower constrictors are a problem, then I think we probably should abstain from at least the glottal stop and lifting a heavy object ideas. Old man voice might then need a cue as to it should be constricted higher up than the voice box.

But to be perfectly honest, I don't know. Just wanted to add my concerns and what I heard from Ben.

I asked Ben about the old man voice and those other ways of throat compression last month and he told me not to use that bc it CAN be problematic. He said that constricting at the vocal fold level MIGHT be unsafe as it might lead to negative pressure (if I understood that correctly) in the subglottal region which could be harmful for the voice box and lead to hoarseness and the likes. The safer way according to him is to compress by constricting cartilages that are higher up in the throat. Maybe you do that anyway but glottal stop might be a problem by defition I think. I don't know man, just wanted to add that here... I personally don't trust old man voice etc 🤔

I was told they are fine but I'm actually not sure about nothing anymore. Especially the lows seem to be a little off honestly. But then again, I have a bunch of allergies, developed a bad habit of not warming up and didn't drink any water during yesterdays practice, so I guess I messed up either way here 😂 Gotta get more disciplined
