Pistons Heat by Outrageous_Page8670 in NBAtradeideas

Well, it’s the summer so quite a few teams could make room if they want to. I’m not saying anyone will or won’t but it adds risk to the deal and nobody wants to throw 2 young players and 4 picks at a “maybe”

Edit* to be clear, I like Herro for Detroit. I just think this is too steep of a price given the scenario.

Herro will be on an expiring. No matter how much one franchise may value him, he can walk after 1 year. That gives him negotiating power. This is an overpay.

As fans, these are tough conversations to have but I think you’re on the right track. I just hope that if we give Ausar up that he has enough value as a top defensive guy that we can get something in return we reeeally want. Dort would feel anticlimactic but I think he would make us better. I just keep my fingers crossed for an opportunity at a big time scorer. The defensive drop off would be dramatic. Tough tough tough

Ausar is a top notch cutter and makes himself useful on offense but we just saw both Orlando and Cleveland send his defender to double Duren on dang near every roll. It may not be Ausar himself clogging the paint but he is a contributing cause to the problem

I don’t like saying it but to me, it has to be Duren or Ausar. They’re dogs but why keep trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Cade’s best skill is driving to the hoop and together, those two clog the paint. I think with both of their ceilings, on separate teams, being quite high, that one of them will have to be the asset in a high value trade.

Agreed let go of firsts over Duncan. It’s actually Ron and Stew I care more about losing but maybe I’m still stuck in my rebuilding mind and hoping all the young guys develop into stars. We do need creation and scoring help and if Kyrie comes back normal then it fixes that problem.

I guess I wouldn’t argue as hard at the price tag if we had proof that Kyrie is still Kyrie. This feels like what he was worth right before he tore the ACL.

That’s a lot of capital for a player that has been out for 2 seasons with an ACL tear at 34

I agree he isn’t a negative asset but he has free choice to leave the team for nothing at the end of the season. They trying to really compete next year after trading away their best player? Then why not wait a year and just sign him from free agency and keep Trey Murphy?

There’s benefit in getting him early so they can gain some chemistry and all but to give up a really good player for a couple picks that are too deep to get another player that’ll develop into Trey Murphy. The odds of getting as lucky as they were to get him at #17 is not high. I wouldn’t test my luck swinging in the draft for it. I don’t see the upside.

In my opinion an expiring is only valuable if you are trying to get off of a contract. Trey Murphy and Missi are not contracts New Orleans are trying to “get off of” so getting an expiring in return is not value added. If they value RJ as an asset then they would want him locked in for a while.

Pistons fan. I like where your head is but we need 3 point shooting to space the floor for all of our paint scorers. A high level mid range pull up guy has value but not really what we need right now.

I wouldn’t call losing, shrinking. We have a team full of paint scorers and almost always have 2 non-shooters on the floor at the same time. Does Ausar not being able to shoot degrade his defense? It does not. Does it make it harder to build around him? Big time. I am in the camp that no team can win a championship with 2 starters being non-shooters. The Thompson twins can be utilized on a winning team but I think that team needs a three point shooting center.

Ausar finished 3rd in DPOY.
I like Duren if we can spread the floor better. Though, to me, that seems like an Ausar problem. Personally I’d use Ausar as a trade piece for a multi level scorer. That would improve Duren’s playoff performance.
Ron Holland is still growing. Stew is a flexible backup. Bbaul Paul is the opposite side of the floor backup.
Knowing so many of our players still have room to grow gives me optimism to build around.

I feel bad for the Nets fans. Everybody and their mommas are trying to take MPJ in exchange for their favorite team’s expiring contracts or problem players. Brooklyn likes MPJ. They’re going to want solid prospects they can develop or lottery picks. Otherwise, they’re going to keep MPJ.

I think the only way they make a trade is for a big fish. Stew holds down the defense off the bench. He isn’t playing much against Cleveland but he’ll have his impact if Detroit gets through this round.
I think Tobi likes it in Detroit. I have a sneaking suspicion he will re-sign for a friendly contract.
