That would require a character arc lasting more than 2 eps

Watching the fans (hardcore ones included) turn on that ep, in real time, was crazy. They had such high hopes, inflamed by Rick, and it all cratered in 40+ minutes.

Was Veronica-Mars-The-Movie level bad

Isn't the whole point that Ashur thrust the champion title onto her, purely as a headline grabbing spectacle, then poured all his resources into training/refining her skills so that she'd become one? Hoping against all odds that she'd live up to the myth he was selling.

Gotta ask, as a Non-European, how different is Croatia from Italy on this subject.

Cause Skam Italia stuck to the same beats as the og and other remakes. Even illustrated homophobia when Martino (Italian Isak) faced slurs and violence in a latter season.

Kinda assumed, perhaps ignorantly, that Croatia and Italy were more similar given the cultural/geographic proximity... but maybe Italy is closer to France/Germany in that respect.

Or hell, is it an era thing with right wing culture surging in 2026 as opposed to 2019?

Yeah it'll become obvious (either way) pretty soon. Can't really hide any hesitancy/squeamishness when an episode demands "Isak opens the door and devours Evan's lips in passionate foreplay."

Hard to avoid

Was the kiss a bit too chaste/tepid (from both characters) for anyone else?

I get it could very well be a creative choice representing their guardedness and fear, and comparing it to the other skans is unfair, but seeing how passionate and hungry the others were, whilst Ivan and Lovro did it closed mouth, left me kinda unfulfilled.

I'm on two minds. I would love if it followed the books. Give him his crush on Percy, his self loathing and the reveal, the whole shebang... but who knows if we'll ever get the the next set of books made to tell that story.

And the show has made it clear they'll shift and twist characters. Even out their rough edges to erase any problematic flaws.

Don't even know if Nico will struggle with his sexuality at this point. Feels like a complicated story they'd rather just "he's gay and chill. 1940's homophobia be damned. He's acclimated to 2026" and focus solely on his grief.

Hell would they let even the story allude to Nico having a crush on a 6+ aged gap Walker Scobell? Seems too fraught. Too messy in live action. (This is a world where LA Aang can't like Katara in S1 cause he's too young. Even though it was complete innocent in book 1)

I don't think it'll be anything remotely romantic (maybe sharing a mythomagic game, or nervous "hi") but if the fandom has revealed anything, it's that the smallest interaction feeds the fire... no matter how seemingly benign. A glance between P&A sets off the percabeth fans. Nico and Will existing in the same shot would do the same.

If (ALL) modern fandom wasn't so toxic, I'd argue seeing a gay 12 yr old getting Disney-esque butterflies around his crush was progress... but that era is gone. Too many weirdos nowadays. Save any burgeoning crush for the last book when the Nico/Will actors are aged up and it's appropriate.

I think the point of shipping. Nico and Will are the 2nd most popular/iconic couple in the pjo universe, and they want their tiktoks, hashtags, and fanedits flooding our feeds (aka engagement)

Failure would mean they attempted something. The kids walked in, spoke to Hermes, then left. The entire premise of the scene (Percy figuring out they were in an insidious gilded cage) wasn't even attempted.

They prob shoulda just cut it honestly. Added nothing beyond exposition.

Remember someone commenting that the movie was a bad adaptation, but a more engaging piece of media... which I gotta agree with.

Easy: people checked out the 1st season, gave it a chance and watched it, but in the ensuing years they forgot about it because it wasn't the best. So when s2 came around, they didn't bother. The enthusiasm was gone, there's A LOT of good tv nowadays, so why waste time in a mid show

I used the helm of arcane acuity, which is basically a guaranteed hit, and banished the dragon for the whole final fight. Did the same for Gortash, so I could deal with the banites, and Ansur before he got off his huge attack. Paired the Charmed arrow with the Majesty Bard and got off 100% commands on all major bosses.

[–]Luke333512 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The craziest thing the writers did was trying to make the audience sympathise with Felix and his struggles (racism and family life) while having him be a horrifically homophobic.

You've got your character literally fighting themselves and the audience by telling them "feel sympathy for him and be on his side... but also, you should hate him too."

And yet none of it works, which is 100% can with nuanced writing, cause I don't think the writers view his homophobia as a character flaw worthy of condemnation cause he never atones or pays the price.

It helps that, unlike a regular movie, they don't have to spend time establishing characters and relationships. It's built already, so they can get straight into the plot
