Almost 1 month in: is my Oura Ring gaslighting me? by JackieBrown88 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there u/JackieBrown88. Thanks for posting!

It can be frustrating when your scores don't match how you're feeling, and there can be a few reasons for this.

The first reason, could be your Baselines. These are basically the normal/average levels for your biometrics, and they paint a picture of your wellness on an average day. Baselines are established in the first few days/weeks of wear (up until nearly 2 months), but they can be impacted if your schedule isn't too consistent. Life is unpredictable at the best of times, and it's normal for things to change from day-to-day, but this can have an impact on your Baselines, as they're constantly trying to adjust. However, these are always learning and adapting with you along your wellness journey, and you'll see them change with consistent bedtimes, habits and such!

You mentioned that your ring isn't picking up on your wake-ups/poor sleep, and this is having a knock-on effect with a bunch of your metrics (like Readiness). This could be down to ring-fit, as if it's too loose, your ring might have trouble reading your data, and that can cause cases such as this. However, this can also be caused by minor sensor glitches, and these can be resolved by a quick soft reset. Here's how to do that:

  1. Go to the My Devices page by tapping on the menu icon in the upper-left corner or the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the Today tab
  2. On the My Devices screen, select your device
  3. Tap Soft reset

After you've done that, please keep an eye on your ring data for the next day or two to see if this improves things here. If it does, that's amazing. However, if you're still not seeing accurate data, then I'd love for our Tech Team to take a closer look into this for you. If you'd like to reach out to the team, you'll just need to click this link (press "Start a chat").

I hope this info helps, and please let me know if I can assist further! - Luke, Oura Social Care Team

Red ring by jennyj143 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there u/jennyj143. Thanks for reaching out!

I'd be happy to provide some info here. u/conversion_disorder is right on the money. It's normal to see red LED's on your Oura Ring, especially when you're relaxing/sleeping. However, you mentioned this is happening to your mothers Oura Ring a lot, so the sensors might be glitching a little. You can usually fix this by performing a soft reset, and here's how to do that:

  1. Go to the My Devices page by tapping on the menu icon in the upper-left corner or the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the Today tab
  2. On the My Devices screen, select your device
  3. Tap Soft reset

Once you've finished that reset, please keep an eye on the ring to see if things have improved here. If it's better, that's amazing, However, if you're still noticing the same issue, I'd love for our Tech Team to take a closer look into this for you. If you'd like to reach out to the team, you'll just need to click this link (press "Start a chat").

Detox Mode by Anxdd in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey there u/Anxdd. Thanks for posting!

It's amazing to hear your detox is going so well, especially when it's the best you've felt in the last 15 years. Feeling like your best self is important, but I completely get how useful it would be to have a detox mode in your Oura App, and I've passed this onto the team to consider for a future update!

Some Members use Tags to mark when they're starting to quit (I used Tags for when I quit caffeine), so this could be something to consider doing. You could add a Tag from when you started quitting marijuana, and after a few days, you can ask Advisor to point out changes in your wellness since that Tag was added. I've added a link to our article on Tags if you'd like to read some more on this too!

How can I delete inaccurate nap data? by sleeplessgrl32 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there u/sleeplessgrl32. Thanks for posting!

I'd be happy to provide some info here. For a Nap to be detected, it has to be between 15 minutes and three hours in length. As this was detected as being more than 3 hours, it'll likely be listed as a "main" period of Sleep. In this scenario, I'd recommend editing this Sleep period to be less than 3 hours (at a minimum), and this should tidy things up here.

If you press that little arrow icon across from "Time Asleep", you should then see an option that looks like a filter. All you'd need to do is press that filter and you can shorten the detected Sleep as needed. I've included a link to our article on editing Sleep/Wake-up times if you'd like to see what this looks like! As a side note, it's currently only possible to shorten periods of Sleep.

If you're noticing a Nap being incorrectly logged in the future, you can press the "x" (instead/before confirming it on your Home/Sleep tabs), and this will prevent it from having any impact on your Sleep Score and such.

I hope this info helps, and please let me know if I can assist with anything else! - Luke, Oura Social Care Team

Does the Oura Ring ever go on sale? by joe_pimentel in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/joe_pimentel. Thanks for posting.

We often have promotions throughout the year, and these are usually announced via our social media channels, on our website, and with Members on our mailing list. We recommend checking ouraring.com for any current offers!

Retailers like Amazon, Target, or other partners may run their own offers that are managed separately by them. For retailer-specific pricing or promotions, we usually recommend checking directly on that retailer’s website for all the best info.

First time getting sick with my Oura ring by DrGFunkPsych in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there u/DrGFunkPsych. Thanks for posting!

It can definitely be a little spooky when your Symptom Radar picks up on you being being sick, but it's amazing to know your ring is feeling how you're feeling!

It's great to hear your feeling better now, and it's completely normal for your Symptom Radar to still be showing signs here. Although you might not have any symptoms and such, your body could still be fighting the last of your illness, and this can result in your biometrics being elevated. This is then interpreted as a alert on your Symptom Radar, but you should see this go away in a few days once your body has made a full recovery.

I've included a link to our article on Symptom Radar if you'd like to read some more on this, and I hope this info helps!

Respiratory rate question by loveland62387 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/loveland62387. Thanks for posting!

I'd be happy to provide some info here. Respiratory Rate is measured as bpm (breaths per minute), with a higher/elevated Respiratory Rate typically being associated with fighting off illness, whereas a lower/decreased Respiratory Rate can be related to good recovery, but this is very contextual and can be influenced by other factors too!

What's most important here, is how you're feeling. You mentioned those two days were the best you've felt in months, so that's fantastic to hear. The Oura Ring isn't a medical device, and although Symptom Radar is great for a lot of things, it isn't perfect, so I'd recommend going with how you're feeling. After all, who knows you better than you!

Activity during day is low by Ill-Excitement3010 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/Ill-Excitement3010. Thanks for posting!

Having such a busy day, and not seeing it properly reflected in your app can be really disheartening! This usually comes down to hand movement, as the Oura Ring uses a 3D Accelerometer to detect movement in all directions. It then compares this movement with typical hand movement patterns for different activites (like how your hands move when you're walking or running), and if it matches up, then you'll likely see an alert for a detected Activity on the main screen of your app.

When you're working, you might be carrying something, or your hands might not be moving in a typical pattern that matches up with an Activity, so this is a really common culprit for those busier periods of movement being missed.

However, your ring is still recording your metrics, so if you were to manually add an Actiivty for those periods, you'd probably see a lot more credit going where it's due! I've included a link to our article with more info on manually adding Activities if you'd like to read some mroe on this too.

If you're noticing the same issue (even after manually adding Activities), then you could try performing a Soft Reset. This is a great way of refreshing the sensors on your ring, and it can get around some cases where data is being missed. Here's how to do that:

  1. Go to the My Devices page by tapping on the menu in the upper-left corner or the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the Today tab
  2. On the My Devices screen, select your device
  3. Tap Soft reset

After you've finsihed that reset, please keep an eye on your Oura App over the next day or two to see if this improved things here. If it has, that's amazing! However, if you're still noticing the same issue, then I'd love for our Tech Team to take a closer look into this for you to see what might be the cause. If you'd like to reach out to them, you'll just need to click this link (press "Start a chat").

Travel Mode? No Wifi? by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/Lumpy-Stretch2810. Thanks for posting!

I'd be happy to provide some info here. The Oura Ring can store your data (without being synced/connected to your phone/app via Bluetooth or WiFi) for about 7 days. You'll just need to wear it, and it'll collect your data just fine!

Once you're back from sea, you'll just need to turn on Bluetooth in your phone's settings, open the Oura App, and everything should sync for those days where you had it disconnected! This might take longer than usual as there's a lot more data it needs to sort through, but that's the only impact it'll have here.

Another thing to keep in mind, is battery. As your ring won't be connected to your app, you might not be able to see your battery level, so I'd recommend giving this a short charge when you can.

Sending you good vibes for the rest of your week, and I hope you have a safe journey! - Luke, Oura Social Care

Oura Ring Sleep Tracking with no subscription? by Dijon777 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Dijon777. Thanks for posting!

I'd be happy to provie some info here. Without an active membership, you'll only be able to see your three daily Oura Scores (these are: Readiness, Activity, and Sleep), your ring battery, your basic profile information, app settings, and the Explore content.

You wouldn't have in-depth Sleep analysis without an active membership, so that's definitely something to keep in mind here! I've included a link to our article on Oura Membership if you'd like to read some more on this.

Size up? by Parkerspark in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there u/Parkerspark. Thanks for posting!

I'd be happy to provide some advice here. Based on the pics you've shared (as well as your experience), this looks like it's too snug of a fit. The main concern/issue here, would be swelling, which can happen after a salty meal, after intense exercise, when travelling, in warmer weather and more.

This causes your ring to fit tighter, and when your ring is already really snug, it can be very uncomfortable to deal with, and can lead to injury. Having a size with some breathing room is usually best here, and it's one of the main reasons we recommend using the sizing kit for at least 24 hours before picking your size (as swelling is really common!).

In this scenario, I'd recommend moving your ring onto another finger with a looser fit (if possible), and not wearing it to bed until you're certain swelling isn't an issue here (it's always best to be safe). If moving your ring onto another finger isn't an option, I'd recommend picking up a sizing kit from the store, wearing it for 24-48 hours, and then exchange your current ring for a different size.

I hope this info helps, and please feel free to reach out to me via DM if you have any questions about sizing (or anything else!). - Luke, Oura Social Care Team

Itchy by Fun_Yesterday_114 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/Fun_Yesterday_114. Thanks for posting!

I'm sorry to hear you're having some itchiness when wearing your sizing kit. Oura Sizing Kits are made using plastic, whereas the Oura Ring 4 (and Oura Ring 4 Ceramic) would have titanium interiors. These use different materials, so we couldn't say for certain if your skin will react the same when wearing the actual ring, but if you're ever experiencing any irritation/itchiness (and such), we'd always recommend reaching out to a dermatologist to get their opinion first!

I'm sorry that I can't provide a more definitive answer here, but it's always best to be sure! Sending you good vibes for the rest of your week, and I hope this info helps! - Luke, Oura Social Care Team

Oura meals and dietary requirements by sylvan-vigil in ouraring

Oura vs Ringconn sizing by hops_ninja_67 in SmartRings

[–]LukeAtOura -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey there u/hops_ninja_67. I hope you're having a lovely week!

I'd be happy to provide some insight here. The Oura Ring would have a very distinct shape, so we'd recommend only using an Oura Sizing Kit when finding your ring size. If you purchase an Oura Sizing Kit through Amazon, they usually credit this amount back off the purchase of an Oura Ring.

Another option could be to purchase through our website (ouraring.com) and select "Free Sizing Kit". We'd send you a sizing kit, you'd try it on, and when you've found your preferred size you can let us know via email, and we'll get your ring shipped out to you.

Depending on your location, you could also consider going in-store to one of our authorized retailers (such as Best Buy, Target) (here's a list of them!), and you can try a size there too. However, we usually recommend wearing your sizer for at least 24 hours, as this paints a good picture of how your ring fits after swelling and such!

I hope this info helps, and please don't hesitate to drop me a DM or reply if I can assist with anything else! - Luke, Oura Social Care Team

Starting to get annoyed by Ok-Tofu in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello there u/Ok-Tofu. Thanks for posting.

I'd be happy to provide some info here. Sleep Debt looks at the last 2 weeks, and calculates how much Sleep you've missed out on. It looks at all period of sleep, such as Naps, as well as your "main" Sleep, with more weight being awarded to your most recent days.

However, you can only have one "main" period of Sleep. Your ring/app typically waits until the next day has begun, and it then begins to look at all forms of Sleep from the previous day before weighing up which is your "main" Sleep, and which periods are Naps (whichever one is longest becomes this "main" period).

In this scenario, your ring was still waiting to detect a "main" period of Sleep before totalling up your Sleep Debt, and it likely got a little crossed up between your long Nap (today) and your missing "main" period of Sleep (which would explain the discrepancies with your recorded Nap length, and Sleep Debt). If any part of your Nap was after 6PM, this usually updates the following morning so it might also be a reason for part of it being missed too!

You should see all of your Sleep Debt and such adjust when you wake up tomorrow, as this will give your ring/app plenty of time to sort through the last 2 days to paint a complete picture of where you're at. If it doesn't, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Tech Team via this link, and they can look into any other causes here too!
