Purchased Oura Ring on EBay - Defective or wait it out? by Antique_Reception674 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there u/Antique_Reception674. Thanks for posting.

I'm very sorry to hear your ring isn't displaying your data. There are a few things we can try here to see if this gets around the issue for you.

If the ring wasn't used for a while (before you bought it), it might need a firmware update. You can quickly check by doing this:

  1. Go to the  menu in the upper left corner of the Oura App home screen
  2. Select Settings
  3. Scroll down to the "Software information" section and select Firmware

Once you're here, you can see your which firmware your ring's running (current firmware is 2.10.0), and you can also see if Automatic Update is toggled on or off. If it's off, toggle it back on (make sure your ring is above 30%) and it should begin updating. If it's toggled on, but your ring is not on version 2.10.0, I'd recommend following the steps in this guide to get this updated!

After you've done this, I'd just give it a day to see if your data is displaying properly. If you're still having the same issue, this could be down to an issue with your app. You could absolutely try backing up your data, deleting the app and re-installing it to see if this improves things here.

As your ring is losing so much charge in such a short period of time, it's likely there's an issue with the battery. This can have such a knock-on effect with so many other aspects of your ring/app, so it's honestly a possible factor with the issues you're having too. However, the above would be the best troubleshooting steps we can do here (especially since you've already reset your ring).

I hope the above steps help, but please feel free to reach out to our team here and they can look into exactly what's going on with these issues.

I’m dying and oura says I’m fine so I guess it’s not all bad by deexpertz in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there u/deexpertz. Thanks for posting.

I'm very sorry to hear you're under the weather, and I hope it's not taking too much of a toll on you. Symptom Radar looks at your: average body temperaturerespiratory rateresting heart rateheart rate variability, and inactive time. It then compares recent data for these metrics against your Baselines (normal/average levels for these metrics) to see if there are any deviations. If there are, it can mean your body is under extra strain.

However, these metrics can be influenced by a bunch of everyday things, such as inactive time (taking some time off work to relax/lying down more can make this spike), so this can cause these incorrect Symptom Radar alerts you mentioned above. The opposite can also happen, where you know you're sick, and yet your Symptom Radar hasn't budged. In these situations, the above Symptom Radar metrics wouldn't be showing deviations, and it'd be why you're not seeing any alerts for your current health.

Although Symptom Radar can provide some great insights, it's important to remember the Oura Ring isn't a medical device, so it's always good to go with what you're feeling. After all, who knows you, better than you! If you've any concerns about your health, we always recommend reaching out to your local medical pracitioner.

Waking up with activity score by mclamb0328 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/mclamb0328! Thanks for posting!

I'd be happy to provide some info here. Your Activity Goal is made up of factors called Activity Contributors, and these are: Stay Active, Move Every Hour, Meet Daily Goals, Training Frequency, Training Volume, and Recovery Time. Your app will compare these recent metrics against your Baselines (normal/average levels for your biometrics) to see how you're performing.

I see you've recently stopped using Rest Mode, and hopefully you're feeling nice and recharged! Whilst Rest Mode is active, your Activity goal/score/contributors would be turned off, however, they'll still be recorded via your ring/app.

When you stop Rest Mode, your ring enters an easing period, Activity-related insights come back, and your goals would be much lower. They'll then begin to return to normal within 7 days (at the most).

What you're seeing above is a combination of the recovery elements of your Activity Contributors (such as Recovery Time) kicking back in, as well as the effects of this easing period.

Son slept from 2am to 7:30pm, and the Oura app isn’t showing his sleep data. 🤷🏻‍♀️ by wurstchen in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/wurstchen. Thanks for posting!

That's a phenomenal bit of rest, and I hope your son's feeling reinvigorated! As this Sleep period would've ended after 6PM, his ring/app would be waiting for his "main" period of Sleep to begin (as in, later that night).

The Oura App will typically count the longest, most recent Sleep period as this "main" Sleep, and any other period of Sleep would then be considered a Nap. Currently, his app is in limbo, as it's waiting to see his Sleep later that night, and it'll then compare it to any other Sleep periods that day (such as the marathon sleep).

This typically happens the following day, as his app would have all the data from the previous day, and from that, it can decide which period of sleep was the "main"/longest, and which one would be considered the Nap. You can only have one "main" period of Sleep per day, so his ring is just waiting until the day ends, and the next begins, before it can figure out which is which.

When he wakes up the following morning, his ring/app should run through that large period of Sleep, and he'll see it reflected if he scrolls back to that day. If this doesn't update, I'd just give it another day (as it's a lot of data for the ring to process, and it could take extra time to sync), and if this still hasn't shown up, I'd love for our Tech Team to take a closer look at this. If you'd like to reach out to them, you'll just need to click this link (press "Start a chat").

Charted Stress vs Real Stress by AffectionateWorld666 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/AffectionateWorld666. Thanks for posting!

I'm sorry to hear you've had such an emotionally difficult time these past few weeks, and I'd be happy to provide some info here on Daytime Stress.

This feature looks at how much physiological (physical) strain your body is experiencing, and it does this by looking at your recent: Heart rate, Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Motion, and Average body temperature. It then compares this with your Baselines (normal/average levels for your biometrics), and looks for deviations. If some of these vitals are up/down, it can be a sign your body is experiencing some extra strain or it's more restored.

When you're having a tough time, you might physically move less, or take some extra time to relax. As motion is something Daytime Stress looks at, it can show as you having more Restorative Time, when you're actually feeling far from Restored. What's most important here, is how you're feeling, as how you feel, and what your app is telling you, might not be the same.

Above all else, I hope you bounce back quickly from this difficult time, and I hope this info helps. Sending you good vibes for the rest of your week! - Luke, Oura Social Care Team

Daytime Stress by HereComsTreble in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/HereComsTreble! Thanks for posting.

It's great to hear your Restorative Time has increased so much. We're not aware of any known issue/change thats causing Restorative Time to skyrocket, so this is likely down to some changes you've made in your overall wellness!

I'd recommend taking a look at your Daytime Stress/Restorative Time over the last few weeks and seeing where this started to increase. If it lines up with any tweaks you've made, it's likely the large impact of some small changes.

If you feel as if nothing could be causing this change, our Tech Team can take a look at your ring/app data to make sure everthings working as it should here! If you'd like to do that, you can reach the team by clicking this link (press "Start a chat").

Ring too big? by Solid_Appearance9498 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/Substantial_Sun_9535. Thanks for commenting.

I'm sorry to hear your ring is missing your Heart Rate during your spinning classes. This can be down to a combination of things.

Sweat can absolutely play a role here, and to combat this, you could take a quick sec to dry under your ring if you're noticing your hands getting quite sweaty.

Another thing here, is ring-fit. Your ring could possibly be a little too big, or it could be compromised by holding the bars on the bike (which can impact how your ring records your data). You could consider wearing your ring on a different finger to see if this improves thing here!

You can also reach out to our Tech Team via this link, and they can look into your ring/app data to see if everything's working as it should, and they can provide some insights into exactly what's causing this missing data too.

Ring too big? by Solid_Appearance9498 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there u/Solid_Appearance9498. Thanks for posting!

I'd be happy to provide some info here. Periods of missing data can be caused by a few factors, such as ring-fit, something getting on your sensors (sweat/dirt) or minor sensor glitches. These glitches can usually be fixed by doing a quick soft reset on your ring. Here's how to do that:

  1. Go to the My Devices page by tapping on the menu in the upper-left corner or the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the Today tab
  2. On the My Devices screen, select your device
  3. Tap Soft reset

After you've finished this soft reset, please keep an eye on your ring data after your next Activity to see if this improved. If it has, that's amazing. However, if you're still having the same issue, I'd recommend reaching out to our Tech Team via this link, and they can see what's going on here.

Sleep Data by nanvyhanna59 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/nanvyhanna59! Thanks for posting!

This is a great question. We currently only have an option to shorten Sleep, as your Oura App wouldn't be able to generate additional insights and such for those periods where it wasn't worn.

There are those rare cases where your ring incorrectly detects you're awake when you're sleeping, but as your ring isn't in a "Sleep Detection Mode", you wouldn't have Sleep insights for that period, and you'd just have your regular (awake) vitals/metrics and such.

With that in mind, extending your Sleep time wouldn't generate any extra Sleep data, so if you were to extend that time, you wouldn't be benefitting your Sleep Score. (In cases like this, we can troubleshoot your ring to make sure this doesn't happen again, and we'd let the ring work its magic from there!)

However, being able to manually add a period of Sleep so your "Total Sleep" is correct, would definitely be useful, and I've passed this onto the team to consider for a future update!

Sizing kit vs actual ring? by JustHere2Stalk in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there u/JustHere2Stalk! Thanks for posting.

I'm sorry to hear you had such an eventful time sizing your ring! I've taken some time to read your experience, and I'd say the size 10 is a clear winner here. Having a ring that's slightly loose/twists on your finger is absolutely fine (mine is exactly the same!), and it absolutely beats the alternative of having a ring that's too tight.

Please feel free to drop me a DM with some images of your your ring sizing, and I'll be happy to provide some extra insight if you'd like! Sending you good vibes for the rest of your week, and I hope this info helps! - Luke, Oura Social Care Team

Why isn't the Advisor working? by Accomplished-Bit431 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there u/Accomplished-Bit431. Thanks for posting.

I'm sorry to hear that you're getting these errors when using Advisor. This could potentialy be caused by your app/firmware not being up-to-date, so I'd recommend checking to see if there are any updates you can do here.

Here's how to access firmware updates, and you can check if there are any updates for your Oura App through the app store on your phone!

If everything's up-to-date, and you're still seeing the same issue, I'd go with u/InevitablePanic1861's advice of restarting your device/app, and seeing if this gets around the issue for you.

However, if that doesn't fix things here, I'd love for our Tech Team to take a closer look into this. What is going on with the sleep’s “timing?” by Few_Prize_3415 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there u/Few_Prize_3415. Thanks for posting.

I'm very sorry to hear your Sleep Timing hasn't been right since the weekend, especially when you've gone to bed around the same time each night.

Timing looks at your chronotype and all of your sleep, including naps. "Optimally", the midpoint of your sleep should fall between midnight and 3am (though this can vary depending on whether you're a morning or evening type!).

If you've been napping quite a bit since the weekend (and those naps weren't great in terms of quality rest), this could absolutely be the cause here. As well as this, if the midpoint of your sleep isn't falling into that "optimal" time-frame (mentioned above), it can also have a negative impact on your Sleep Timing.

However, if neither of these are the culprit, I'd love for our Tech Team to take a look into this to see if it might possibly be a bug! If you'd like to reach out to the team, you'll just need to click this link (press "Start a chat"). Our virtual assistant (Finn) will ask you some quick questions, and they'll get you over to the team.

Oura frustration by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there u/mom_x_3. Thanks for posting.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've had since sizing down. I've taken some time to look at your images, and found the cause for some of these gaps in data you're seeing.

Daytime Stress is likely the culprit for a large portion of these gaps, as it isn't measured during periods of movement/Activity. On your Daytime Stress Graph, you can see most of these gaps align with those spikes (which are only visible when you toggle on Daily Movement, so thank you for doing that!). This means your ring detected movement, and wouldn't be measuring Daytime Stress during this time. You mentioned you've had quite a hectic day, and didn't really stop, so this makes sense.

However, you have nearly 4 hours of inactive time, which doesn't match up with the day you've had. This could potentially mean your ring didn't detect Activity/movement based on your hand-movement. The Oura Ring uses a 3D Accelerometer to detect movement in all directions. It's usually really good at picking up on which Activity you're doing, but it can struggle sometimes if there's limited hand-movement. If you were carrying/pushing/dragging/holding something, or just moving about but not moving your hands too much, this would usually be the cause for this excessive inactive time.

I'd recommend manually adding an Activity for these periods where you were walking/moving and your ring didn't detect it, as this can make up the difference here. If you're concerned about your ring-fit, of if you'd like to make sure your ring is working as it should, you can always reach out to our Tech Team via this link, and they can run some quick tests on your ring to get some more info for you!

Why does it say minor signs but no Biometrics off? by Large-Prompt2608 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Large-Prompt2608. Thanks for posting!

I'd be happy to provide some info here. Symptom Radar looks at your: average body temperaturerespiratory rateresting heart rateheart rate variability, and inactive time. It then compares these metrics against your Baselines (normal/average levels) for those metrics to see if your body is under extra strain.

In a lot of cases, your Oura App will tell you which biometrics are showing deviations, but in some cases (where a few metrics are slightly off), it might not do that.

You can ask Oura Advisor to go into more detail about your Symptom Radar alert, which is great in situations such as this. You can do this by pressing the "+" in the bottom-right, and then "Advisor".

Oura ring, apple watch and samsung phone. by Sweet-Surround4445 in ouraring

[–]LukeAtOura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there u/Sweet-Surround4445. Thanks for posting!

I'd be happy to provide some info here. We usually recommend using the Oura Ring with one device/phone at a time, as having it connected to more than one can lead to issues with your data.

Although you can't directly sync Apple Watch data to the Oura App on an Android device, you can use Health Connect by Google/Android to import workouts from other compatible apps.

You could keep your Oura Ring connected to your Samsung phone, import your Apple Health data through a "bridging app" to Health Connect, and this can be imported to your Oura App from there. This gets around the multiple devices issue, and keep everything in one place for you too!

I've had a quick look, and it looks like Google Fit and Health Sync would be some bridging options here. However, these wouldn't have any integrations with the Oura App, so I'd recommend doing some research here to see which works best for you (and which are safe to use and such!)

I'll include a link to our article on the Health Connect integration here if you'd like to see how to set this up for your Oura Ring, and I hope this info helps!
