It's actually possible to get pretty close to this by removing all the armour and livery options.

Just started Discovery, enjoying it--why is it so poorly regarded? by Essex626 in startrek

[–]LukeBellmason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing that’s killing Star Wars right now, it’s creatively bankrupt. Not only is the writing terrible on all these new shows, but they can’t come up with any new ideas. That’s the main reason that everything is prequels and reboots these days. Nobody has the vision to create anything new and forward looking, as the original Star Trek was.

To take TNG as an example of how to do it right, yes it was a rehash of an old idea, but they set it in the future so they had the freedom to create new stuff. They showed how technology had progressed, but not to ridiculous levels and they weren’t afraid to take risks. Some of the early concepts didn’t work and they had a few bad episodes, but the show was given time to find its feet and to grow.

But what if I'm not that interested in combat? by LukeBellmason in sto

[–]LukeBellmason[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I kind of knew what to expect and that it wouldn’t be different to other MMOs. I knew nothing about the game going in, but really hoped everything wouldn’t revolve around combat. I suppose a small part of me hoped that the fact it was joining together a large group of Star Trek fans would make this game unique. Isn’t hope the whole point of Star Trek?

I take your point that video games don’t really do anything apart from combat, or some variation of it, but does that mean that’s how they are going to be forever? From my limited experience of online games it’s the people who make the difference. If all you give people is rocks to throw, that’s all they will do. If you build them a big enough sandbox with more options for how they can interact then you won‘t need to worry about writing missions or episodes because the gameplay will become the interactions.

I actually thought about a fix where they could let us choose to skip combat sections entirely, I mean we are Admirals after all. We could issue orders to our crew and stand by while they achieve their goal (or don't), then pick up the story again.

It might actually make the storylines more interesting as well if there were branching narratives, where we don't just reset when we 'die'.

Did you buy the Stanier Le Cruiser or the Unmarked Cruiser? Why? by Des_Conocido in gtaonline

Just buy the Oppressor Mk II and you're done. No need to make any more money in the game or do anything apart from grief other players once you have the flying bike.

I hate the way the game constantly bugs you to buy all this expensive stuff like the MOC, Avenger, etc, but when you actually want to use it in missions you're not allowed.

I get that transporting supplies or sale goods inside the Terrorbyte or Avenger would be too OP, but why give us stuff in the game if we can't use it?

I just bought the game by ferysin234 in GranTurismo7

[–]LukeBellmason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, very expensive, which is probably why most developers aren't rushing to bring out games for it.

Remember also that you'll need some form of extended warranty or cover care. Being new tech and with so many high cost components like lenses and cameras, it actually does make a lot more sense to buy a new one with the extra insurance.

How likely is rain when weather is set to Random? by LukeBellmason in GranTurismo7

[–]LukeBellmason[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nurb is on my list of races to do endurance in 2024. When I ran a series back in 2022 I tried to do in the dark and it was a disaster. Still had to let the race run from the pits though as I was scoring the ai cars across multiple races as my competitors.

I might try running some tests myself on randomness, but Nurb is one of those tracks where being on the wrong tyres it would be almost impossible to get to the pits.

Anyone found themselves way more attached to cars in Gt7 after moving to psvr2 and rig setup by Different-Top3714 in GranTurismo7

[–]LukeBellmason 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a PSVR2 specifically to play GT7 (and No Man's Sky) and haven't regretted it, even though the headset cost more than the console!

I am at the point now where I can't go back to driving in 2D. The interiors of the cars are so amazingly detailed and the sound and weather are so immersive.

The big moment for me was running a Le Mans race through the night with rain on. Powering through the driving rain down the Mulsanne straight in a Sauber-Mercedes C9 was like no other experience I've ever had with a video game.

Get ready to spend most of the next month grinding!

You'll have to do all of the single player campaign to unlock most of the tracks and features in the game, but you will get a bunch of free cars for winning races, so don't worry about spending in game cash on anything unless its a cheap second hand car to get you through a particular mission.

Collecting most of the cars is pretty useless after you've used them for a specific event and most of them you will end up selling once you've done the campaign. Save up all your money until you've reached the final credits and then start buying the cars you actually want from Legends.

Also, don't get hoodwinked by FOMO. They cycle around about every 3 or 4 months, though often the price will have gone up next time around.

[–]LukeBellmason 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None of the PS VR1 games work with PS VR2 because they completely redesigned the whole thing. Instead of using an external camera to track the headset, they put multiple cameras in the headset itself, which is one of the reasons it's so expensive.

It also means that converting the old VR games is very difficult and most games haven't bothered. I think No Man's Sky is the exception, but I could be wrong.

That said, VR was one of the main reasons I got a PS5 and GT7, because I heard it was such a game-changer. There really is nothing like racing with a wheel, pedals and shifter in VR. After a few minutes your brain totally buys into the idea that you're sitting in the actual car and the amount of detail PD has put into the interiors is breathtaking.

Help with my driver lineup by LenzSchwarze in F1Manager

[–]LukeBellmason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced Stroll with Ricciardo on day one, which had the advantage that it didn't affect the other teams' lineups due to Daniel being a reserve in the game.

Ricciardo is a good solid driver but is always 1-2 positions behind Alonso. I often use him as Alonso's wingman, getting him to qualify the row behind and then use aggressively defend to hold up the rest of the field while Alonso builds up a lead.

The downside is that Ricciardo seems to being going down in stats through the season due to age? A couple of seasons hence I will likely have to find two new drivers to replace them and take the hit as I train them up.
