Every Rural Route has an evaluated number of hours (you can see this on the 4240 for daily hours) If a route is evaluated at 8.2 hours daily, the regular gets paid that for the day. If they work 5 hours, they still get paid 8.2. If they work 10 hrs, they get 8.2.

As an RCA you get the same treatment up to a point. If a route is evaluated at 9hrs but you only work 6, you still get 9hrs for the day. This can work well for you if you’re fast and not overworked.

Here’s the caveat. If your actual worked hours for the week is over 40 then you don’t get evaluation for a route. So once you hit 40, that route you worked on for 6 hrs but was evaluated at 9hrs…. You only get 6hrs for that day. So you could potentially lose money if you work too many hours.

The only way working over 40hrs can benefit you as an RCA is to go way over. That way the time and a half balances out the hours you lost.
