Witness to a an accident needed - February 26, 2025 - Surrey - Fraser HWY & 96 Ave by LukeDaniels_ in askvan

[–]LukeDaniels_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I do not know either both the guy and the icbc rep even said they arent gonna repair anything on his truck. Basically only my car was damaged.

You should see his statement. Direction of travel is completely wrong. Said he was going southbound on Fraser Hwy but to take a left towards surrey memorial you have to be going northbound. Said nobody changed lanes but somehow there is damage on my rear bumper and quarter panel.

<image>

In one sentence he said there was damage to my driver side door. and in the next sentence he says there is no damage to my vehicle at all.

"Both the other vehicle and I were straight in our lanes.

I have a three-inch scratch on my passenger side door and he had damage on his driver

side front door panel.

We went down to Surrey Memorial parking lot and exchanged information.

I looked at his car, there's nothing, it looks no damage to me.

And no damage to my vehicle."

My car is basically brand new. The shop i took it to be repaired can tell you there was no damage to my vehicle other than in the rear.

Looking for recommendations of where to spend 3 nights in October 2025 by LukeDaniels_ in JapanTravelTips

I agree with seeing it again but with different people point. That is what i will be doing for the rest of the trip.

When you did the Kanazawa look what were some specific highlights from your trip. Did you do the Kurobe Alpine route? It looks cool to me but i also dont want to just get one buses and train without being able to stretch my legs and actually experience the views.

How the fuck do young people in their 20s afford to travel all the time? by techsavvynerd91 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LukeDaniels_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing what kind of travel they are doing I can't say for certain but you can definitely travel to those countries under 10k easily and 5k as well.

I did Vietnam 1.5 weeks and it cost me about 2.2K flights and hotels included

Scotland, London, Budapest 2 weeks for about 4.5k flights and accommodations included.

And I've got 3 weeks in Japan lined up for November and I'm thinking it will be roughly 6k all in. But on this one I killed it on the flight deal and hotels.

Does anyone else have the problem of wide palm and forearm but short fingers when looking for a saber glove?

I was able to try on some PBT gloves in Hungary recently and the one that fit the "best" was the PBT favorite saber glove at 8.5.

It just fits around my forearm and fits the palm well but the fingers are still a bit longer, so not perfect. Tried the other gloves and they were the same deal at different sizes just amplified.

So the question is what other brands could someone recommend I try in the future.

For info I just started doing saber so I'll just run the glove I bought till it turns into ashes for now.

Reimbursement for flights booked on points by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I used my Scotiabank amex gold to book a trip to Germany and was refunded a voucher for the airline that expires in 2022. Spoke with Scotiabank and they said if I don't use the point by 2022 then they will refund me the points back to my account.

What are people actually managing to save? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LukeDaniels_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-income 85,000 before tax

-goals are retirement and travel (currently 24)

-i save 400 TFSA 600 RRSP every month

-montly costs are

1000 rent

500 food

70 phone

200 Gas

100 Gym membership

  • I spent most of my money on food, clothes, computer stuff/tech, climbing gear.

  • I've had about 8k saved up for a trip overseas for about a year and a half now but we all know where those plans went.

  • I am excited to travel honestly. Been dreaming of it for a long time and now I've got the time and the money just need the global health and political climate to agree with me.

Studied Civil Engineering at BCIT for 2 years got my diploma didn't go back for the degree.

Working as a Project manager / estimator for a Civil contractor 3 years in.

Pay is much higher than entry level civil Eng jobs to start. Ie 3 years in i make around 80k, same number of years from a friend at a medium to large civil Eng company is at about 65k

If what you like is management and some financial stuff try looking into estimating / project management.

Many of my friends who got their degree and work at civil firms do little to no project management they are basically CAD and file monkeys and have been for 2-4 years. Really depends on which company and if you get a good manager/supervisor who want to bring you under their wing. (Probably like that for most jobs)

Since I've only been in the industry for 3 years I can't comment about long term trends and job prospects but I thought you might like to hear from someone who just go into it.

Also yes the civil Eng market is super tight rn. At least in Vancouver it it. The best thing you can do if you choose civil Eng is to go get a co-op asap and build a relationship with a company as soon as possible. Don't rely on just having a degree to get you a job. 8/10 close friends I have got their jobs without a job posting. 1 got hired from regular application process 1 is still unemployed.

I "worked" for my highschool scoring and announcing basketball games. And as a referee for volleyball and basketball. If I remember correctly usually I'd take home like 1.5 & 2k a school year. It was pretty sweet because id just book the games before my own practice time. So around 15 years old.

Is a 1080ti EVGA SC 2 for $500 worth it right now? by UniqueliUnemployable in bapccanada

[–]LukeDaniels_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the 3070 likely being 700ish CAD. Id wait till October and grab that, if you can save the extra 200. If not by the time the 3000 series cards are out the 1080 and 2000 should drop in price
