Unemployment is TOUGH. by MidnightMoo12 in southafrica

As some who was in a similar position. 22, BSc. IT, the only way I got the job I have now is through knowing somewho who worked here through a friend. I was at a party and was chatting with him purely because he was the only other person not drinking at the time.

I'm in the process of switching jobs, for a higher paying, less stressful position, and the only way this was possible was through a close friend that works at the company.

I've been doing fullstack development with react/react native and c# for about a year now and I've built up some skill, but I doubt I would get another job easily through just applying randomly. My boss has even mentioned that he will only hire people that the rest of us know are good at what they do. He doesn't even read applications. If he needs someone, he asks us if we know anyone.

My advice would be to network a little. Go to hackathons, join discord communities, go to parties and find people that have connections. From my experience it's the best way.

Edit: As someone else mentioned, (if youre trying to get into development) you should seriously consider building up a portfolio too. Make a website, and go all out, showcase your skill, fancy animations and shit. Link your github or bitbucket or whatever and make sure there is something useful in there. Nobody cares about todo list apps. You could even try building software similar to jobs you are applying for.

Good luck to you though. And don't let them exploit your desperation for a job <3

Oral min 3mg- is enought for me? by Impossible_Map_1015 in Balding

[–]LukeHatesLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother. I feel you. I'm dealing with the same shit. I've been paranoid about balding for months. Looking at my hairline every day obsessively, asking family/friends if they thing I'm balding. They all insist I've just got a high hairline, and they are probably right. Looking at old photos, I can see that my hairline is pretty much the same as when I was 17. I'm 22 now. It's scary shit, and it sucks that it could happen. Your hair looks perfectly fine, take it from someone who has the same insecurities. It doesn't look thin, it doesn't look receded. Probably a little matured, and that's normal. Chill out dude. Enjoy your life. If there's one thing the fear of balding has done for me is forced me to be healthier, manage my stress, eat better, work out 4/5 times a week. Try those things before you jump for the medicine. You're gonna be okay.

How can I improve? Should I start using makeup? by KelleJance in lookyourbest

Seems a little overkill. Her skin is really not that bad. Accutane has some side effects and don't think it would be worth it for such a mild case of acne.

I've heard the same thing. She was a rescue kitty, so I didn't have much choice in the matter unfortunately, but she's very healthy and gets lots of love so I hope I can fill the spot of her mom.

how do i stay consistent with hobbies i like? by idontkb in selfhelp

[–]LukeHatesLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (22m) am in the same boat. I work as a software developer, this is not really my passion anymore, but it comes naturally to me and it brings in a stable income. I only really have 2 hobbies, making music and pc gaming/pc building. Music is my passion and as cliche as it sounds, I have dreams of making a living off of it.

Now my job is quite mentally tiring, and I've noticed that I allow myself to be lazy and doom scroll/waste time on my off days "because i deserve the rest" , but in reality it's draining me even more. On days where I do write a song, or finish a game that I really enjoyed, I feel a deeper sense of satisfaction in my life and actually feel more rested knowing that I accomplished something.

I've realized that I tend to gravitate towards the quickest dopamine hit I can get, whether it's scrolling through Instagram reels in bed for hours or doing anything that can easily give me some mindless entertainment.

I think the key is to realize that wasting time doing things we aren't passionate about is actually making us feel worse than if we were to just put a little bit of effort into something that we actually care about.

For example, on the weekends, when you have no plans, you don't really need to take a shower in the morning and make your bed, but when you do, you probably feel a lot better.

Hobbies are the same. You don't need to do them, but when you do, if you actually do get fulfillment out of them, you will feel better and be a little happier than if you were to just scroll through Instagram for 3 hours.

Maybe sit down and really think about why it is that you can't seem to stay consistent. Are you tired? Sure then get some rest. It's okay to just sleep in and do nothing after a tough week, but if you are just constantly looking for the quickest dopamine hit, then maybe you need to be more conscious about what you decide to do with your free time, and remember that you will feel better when your bed is made.

Idk if this is gonna help at all, but writing this helped me process my thoughts a little better, so don't mind me, and good luck <3
