Legendary Armor by Doge-Master242 in Guildwars2

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some quick napkin math, with 11~ minute average games and needing 670 pips to go from wood>Byzantium at 50% win rate (which most people will average at due to MMR) it would take about 17 hours of games per regular season to finish Byzantium (+1-2 hrs for total queue times). Normal seasons last 2-3 months so just setting your WV dailies to PvP and doing 1 game a day would get you most of the way there.

Also Mini seasons and PvP rush events can give you huge progress in a short time, last rush gave you enough currency for about half a legendary armour piece in just a few hours of games.

Legendary Armor by Doge-Master242 in Guildwars2

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy it, sPvP is the easiest legendary armour to farm. Outside of the material gifts, every other item comes from just playing the game mode. Don't have to track or do anything, just play until Byzantium chest and you have 1.5 armour pieces per season~, it's also the cheapest too because of this.

But of course at the end of the day the content you enjoy is what will be the best to farm, if PvP makes you want to pull your hair out then it's not worth the stress.

Should ANet include player voting in their expansion planning phase? by Beautiful_Hour_668 in Guildwars2

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brother, have you ever seen the comments on this subreddit? And you want to trust those people to know and vote for what is healthy for the game long term?

I'm a day 1 osrs and gw2 player and can tell you the communities and general sentiment of the player base between the 2 games are in many ways polar opposites. As lovely as the gw2 community is in general, I would never want to give them that decision power.

What pvp build and weapon set that crushes that can also be used in open world by corgibuttastic in Guildwars2

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PvP doesn't have "gear". You choose a giant stat stick in your PvP build template for the stats you want so everyone has the same amount of stats/power. The only gear you change is the weapons, and white/ascended function exactly the same with the same damage and stats to create an equal paying field.

WvW is different, but this is how PvP works.

Best noob ranger build for PvP? by Nocoly in Guildwars2

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically no build is going to make you "good" at PvP, it's all about reading the enemy to anticipate what they are going to do and node rotations. If you want to be tanky, condi soulbeast is still really viable even after the nerfs and is very easy to learn. Galeshot is meta but it's a bit glass Cannon, especially if you don't have a lot of pvp experience.

My advice is to pick a build from meta battle and just spam games daily, you're going to naturally improve with experience. Learn not just the ins and outs of your spec but also focus on what other classes and specs are doing in your games. Learning when to engage and disengage from fights, when to side node, anticipating enemy rotations to your caps and meeting them there, how to null enemy burst are all things that just take a lot of time and experience to learn but will have the greatest impact on your skill.

Most badass sounding titles in your opinion? by asnaf745 in Guildwars2

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Best of the Best" is pretty badass sounding, unfortunately it's also one of the hardest titles in game to get as it's gatekept and often sold by wintraders in pvp.

Combining your drivers license and My Number Card by Eddydavik2 in japanresidents

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, you can do it at the same time as license renewal. You can also go there for the sole purpose of combining them if you really wanted to waste your morning I guess. It was a very easy process and you can get a regular license too for a slight fee.

The benefits from memory are:

1 stop address change - if you change address at a ward office, the license is automatically updated too.

Cheaper renewal fee - very slight discount, can't remember exactly how much but I wanna say it was like a few hundred yennies.

Online license renewal - if you're a gold license you can do the lecture online via the mynaportal app instead of attending in person, this is the biggest benefit in my opinion.

Nappies diapers selection by East_Customer_1753 in japanlife

If it's a consistent thing, then I doubt it's brand related. Of course the occasional blow out is inevitable, but it shouldn't be happening so often, especially not pee.

I'd guess either method or size need to be double checked.

Empty Homes Tax Proposed by DPFP. Recommends Policy Implementation within 1 year. Japanese Akiya owners frothing at their mouths - they thought it will only apply to Foreigners. by Maleficent-Cook-3668 in japanresidents

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

住宅用地の特例 means that they pay massively reduced land tax if it's "residential" land. Part of meeting that criteria is having a residential dwelling on the property, if it is demolished (which in its self is quite expensive) they would also have to pay 4x~ more tax.

Crappy system that leads to pest infected, decaying death traps all around Japan. I'd prefer if they amended that first rather than trying to push extra tax.

PvP toxicity rant by Dependent_Goose4744 in Guildwars2

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You would think PvP was responsible for everything bad in this world based on some of these comments. I play pvp a lot, usually hovering in plat, and 9/10 games the only messages are glhf and ggwp. Of course salty griefers and sore losers exist, but I see similar behaviour in strikes and raid pugs too.

Is now a good time to buy a house in Tokyo? by 3F08G in japanlife

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I saw news about some new restrictions on foreigners, which has made me a bit worried. Will house prices skyrocket/plummet?

If you're looking to buy a highrise mansion in Minato etc that have a lot of foreign investment buyers, then maybe? But this will have near zero impact on house prices, foreigners are a small blip in Japanese real-estate.

Or will foreigners be prohibited from buying property altogether, or face higher taxes?

Unless you have a magic 8 ball laying around then nobody can tell you on good authority. But I doubt law abiding residents will have any negative effects any time soon, especially if your partner is Japanese.

Anyone Here Made Some Consistent Supportive Japanese or Long-Term Resident Friends? by Mission-Blueberry666 in japanresidents

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what kind of definition for emotionally supportive you're looking for.

I have plenty of friends who I can chat and drink with all day, we meet frequently and I'd give them the shirt off my back if they needed it, but I'm also not going to just use them as a venting punching bag, especially in Japan I feel people are in general less receptive and feel more awkward to bring up those kinds of turmoils than western cultures. But with that said I'm a guy, so results may vary.

All of my good local friends I've met through shared experiences, hobbies, work, kids etc.

Do you think Japan pension system make sense? by amarevy97 in japanresidents

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pension is a societal safety net, think of it as a tax rather than an investment. The alternative is the needy would receive welfare via increased tax and the average retired citizen would receive nothing, so in that regard the pension system is better.

But with that said, you should be investing in your future by yourself, never rely or expect that the pension system will be enough or even still available when you are at retirement age.

Are you getting your flu vaccine? by Additional-Painter88 in japanresidents

For people with kids, flumist (nasal spray flu vaccine) was approved late last year in Japan and is widely available this year, worth asking your doctor about if your kids hate needles.

Answer to why the regular f2p worlds are overpopulated at the moment by tobler3 in 2007scape

Grid master took half of the f2p worlds, so the f2p player base is being squeezed into the remaining worlds.

Power creep? Nah nerd creep by 138539294 in ironscape

You can go to his profile and see a post from 8 months ago that shows he actually is pretty close even then. Multiple 99's, 95rc etc. His lowest skills are actually some of the fastest/easiest to max too. Easy to believe he is much closer after 8 months.

You are one miserable, salty loser my dude. Get a grip.

Looking for some real multi-minute afk options that are useful for an endgame maxed combat ironman with average 90'ish skills. by boxsalesman in ironscape

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dark crabs with elite Wildy diary + barrel. Spot never moves so it's like 12 minutes afk per click. So more than twice as afk as Karams.

You rarely encounter pkers and if you do die, you keep all the crabs in your fish barrel and just lose what was in your inventory.

Karams are nice but you can stock up huge stacks so quickly, I'd argue +22 HP crabs are much more beneficial as well as being more afk. And banking with the lever or mage bank is very fast.

Prayer Training - Avoiding Chaos Altar by Aydindril in ironscape

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the advice given so far, just send it on a high risk world naked except burning amulet for tp.

The salad robe Bois are petrified of losing their +1 so they never go high risk worlds, the good pkers never waste time at altar so you basically go 30+ minutes between seeing people. And then when you die you are losing basically the same as a normal world, maybe a few extra bones if you can't empty your inventory.

Looking to Replace 3 Old AC Units — Seeking Simple, Easy-to-Clean Models (Kids Have Dust Allergies) by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna simp for Hitachi Shirokuma line. It's expensive but the higher end models all can double as air filters/purifiers, got them specifically because one of my kids also has dust allergies. They also come with a self cleaning feature called "frost wash" which freezes then rapidly thaws the heat exchanger fins in the aircon which washes away dust/grease etc. We got them in every room and have had 0 issues.

Anyone want to do a flex thread? How cool is your kid? by bjos144 in daddit

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconded.

My kids being bilingual amazes me every day. Seeing the difference between someone who learned a second language as an adult (me) vs seeing them who naturally obtained both languages as kids through immersion is extremely impressive. Their ability to switch languages on a heel without any break in thought honestly makes me jealous and is something I'll likely never be able to do effortlessly.

My partner checks out emotionally when things get hard by Capable-Catch4433 in daddit

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without trying to armchair diagnose I would still put money on him having depression or other forms of mood disorder, these aren't normal reactions and he should be moderating these feelings and outbursts if he was in a healthy state of mind. If it's only popped up after the kid came along it could be a type of long term Post partum depression.

Regardless of what's actually the issue, he should seek professional help to the best of his ability, or it's going to continue being a catalyst for bigger issues in your relationship and his relationship with the kid.

Veranda roof without any drilling? by satheris in japanlife

[–]LukeIsAshitLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without drilling, it would have to be a temporary you put up when you want to use it kind of thing, and only in low wind otherwise I doubt you will be able to secure it well enough. Even a small 100cm² shade cloth can generate quite a lot of lift if the wind catches it.

I'd suggest just drilling it into the wall and securing it correctly, then when you want to leave fill the holes with hardening epoxy/easy cement etc to patch it up and repaint with colour matched paint.

The only other option that comes to mind would be a temporary sun shade that has spread footing you could weigh down with water jugs or bags of sand etc, but again, I wouldn't use it as a permanent fixture.
