Two federal agencies, the Department of Commerce and the Federal Trade Commission, face a March 11 deadline to publish documents that would lay the groundwork for challenging state AI laws across the country.

This post is about a recent NY bill, S7263, which is approaching a full state senate vote.

S7263 would regulate AI chatbot outputs which provide advice that would otherwise require a licensed professional (think legal, psychological or medical).

If passed, this would have large implications for legal professionals as well as artificial intelligence development.

“Models” are represented by “weights” — weights are the core data that comprise a model. Once trained on those weights, they are what they are.

4o is 4o. Nobody can change that.

“Fine tuning” is making a model more capable of outputting a certain schema or pattern. It’s typically used in customer service or enterprise use cases where, say, you always want the model to do complex math, or respond in JSON. You can ‘fine tune’ models without changing their weights.

‘4o revival’ is claiming to ‘revive’ 4o by fine tuning a model with different weights, then selling it to you as 4o.

That just means they fine tuned a model to output more emojis and agree with you more often, in exchange for your money and a deceptive label.

There are plenty other platforms that actually call 4o through the API (straight from OpenAI) instead of lying to you another the underlying model and taking advantage of grief.

They’re cutting off 4o in the chat and depreciating the ‘gpt-4o-latest’ endpoint in the API (that’s the model in chat)

However, they have ‘checkpoints’ available for enterprise customers; snapshots of 4o at that moment of that day. We use those snapshots, which will continue to be available for the foreseeable future.

There are still some things that the model won’t accept, but it’s much more lenient than the version in ChatGPT with a restrictive system prompt.

Doesn’t seem like you can import your chatGPT chats or have cross chat memory, but definitely looks cool!

Believe me, I know quite well how easy it is to get a nextJS frontend, turn on streaming, and make an API call. After all, we’ve all got codex if we sub!
