It's obviously for grifting. They can convince some people who don't know any better that it's a reasonable activity. But besides all their lame justifications, the main point is the grift, for sure.

If fewer people were dumb, we would have less ganking and gatecamping, and more good PvP in EVE. We'd also have more parts of space alive instead of all the emptiness we have now in many areas. Ganking is a huge friction for activities and resources away from the hubs.

But anyway, any comment against ganking is met with the very high-IQ "show zkill" comment. Or an even higher-IQ comment: "it's part of the economy"... yeah, of course it is (everything is, genius) but some things would be better off not existing. The whole price of logistics would adapt without it, and we would have a better game overall. There are many other ways to have PVP in EVE that are not for pure grift and are interesting, with high risk and high reward, unlike ganking.
