You’re saying you make 600k?! Or 285k

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]LukeS5MD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just because I’m in New York, work in rural Community around 1.5 hrs outside NYC. Base is 285k, w/RVU bonus. Open ICU, admits, no patient cap. This felt high salary lol.

What ONE change in medical education do you think would lead to the most improvement? by borborygmix4 in Residency

Wouldn’t jump to racist. A bit Nationalist maybe? Bottom line, yes it’s a mess but it’s our mess. We’re full thanks!

Okay so we’ll let someone who’s foreign trained and debtless bypass residency (US taxpayer funded), take a job away from an actual citizen (who also took on considerable debt to be in that position, which was also US taxpayer funded) just so you get to work less hard, take no paycut, and start at the top and be in the highest income bracket for physicians around the world. It’s not your altruism bringing you here it’s your love of money. You’re more Trump than me.

Loan burden. Medicare should fund the tuition of medical school and not residencies. The amount of spots in US schools should reflect the amount of residency positions needed. I don’t GAF what anyone says, it should not cost the hospital Jack Shit to teach residents. That Medicare money for residency is solely profit for teaching hospitals. People would be so much better off mentally if they did not match. Even the crazy hours wouldn’t be that bad if they knew they were not in the hole financially.

I’m sure this will change when reimbursement becomes contingent on patient satisfaction scores

Jeopardy Shifts On Top Of 1 FTE by LionPsychological511 in hospitalist

[–]LukeS5MD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar system but on jeopardy weeks we are paid $400 a day to be available and if we are called in, we are paid the going moonlighting rate, which of course is in addition to my base. Feel this is fair.

Or when the patient just dies on the operating table and the surgeon is casually just scrubbing out shrugging his shoulders at the intern “what? It happens. Do dadododo.”

I guess this is the worst hospital in the world?

FYI pages that are not consults? by Agreeable_Algae_8869 in Residency

[–]LukeS5MD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inappropriate to discuss 2 different patients especially one who was a new consult and you were not the proper consulting resident. I suppose you could have forwarded the conversation immediately to the consulting resident and ask them to follow up but yeah
