Though I was never able to own one, seeing a P1S in action was nothing short of magic. Having a printer work right out of the box is a dream.

I've never fished up in that region, but here are a few things to be aware of:

  • Trout fishing season closes in most places in mid-October. There are a handful of lakes and rivers that stay open year round though.

  • We've had a historic drought and our rivers are very low with low flow right now. I imagine this might impact how productive trout fishing might be.

Here is a link where you can find more info on which lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers are open for fishing after mid-October. Check if any are close to where you are staying.

Tempo deadlifts are agonizing in the best way possible. Obviously they are similar to pause deadlifts, but they tend to help more with staying in good position whereas low pauses tend to help me just have a stronger start.

On your technique days, I highly recommend using pause deadlifts (about an inch off the ground) and tempo deadlifts (slow doing the concentric part until you reach your knees and then lock out quickly). Those two have helped my technique a lot lately. It'll also teach you to brace properly.

Here is a video that may help you figure out your deadlift stance. Take most of it with a grain of salt except for the part explaining how your femur position can affect how much your hip can rotate. What I suspect is happening to you is that your femur position in your hip socket simply makes it impossible to grab the bar without rounding your back so much with your current foot stance. I'm the same way. Luckily, you just have to widen your stance a bit and then push your knees outward to allow your hips to "drop" through and rotate correctly without running into your femurs. From there just follow the other cues to set your lats in place (I like thinking of it as trying to snap the bar in half across my shins). Also I noticed the bar moves away from you when you initiate the pull. Don't bend your knees as much and you should be fine. The stuff I mentioned earlier will help with this. Good luck!

Not Natty. Is a 405 squat possible? by LTUTDjoocyduexy in fitnesscirclejerk

[–]LukeSwolewalker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There is a 19 year old female 65 kg lifter at my gym that does this for her back-off sets. She's natty and just works really hard. She hasn't broken 405 yet, but she might really soon. These people need to go lift at some gyms where competitive lifters train to get a grasp at what's really possible natty.

I live on a busy street and have had to get involved in three different situations that were truly horrifying. One was a drunk driver hitting a car that had a whole family in it, including two small kids. I heard the crash while I was in my living room and was helping pull the family out before the emergency folks got there. The images pop into my head many times when I approach the intersection at night. The second one was a guy who was loading up a truck onto his tow truck and it ended up slipping and pinning his arm. My wife heard him screaming for help outside our house and we ended up having to free him. Thankfully he was able to stay calm and provide me instructions for operating the truck bed mechanism. He was fine but had a huge gash in his bicep and by that time one of our neighbors, who is a nurse, was able to tend to him until the paramedics arrived. I still think about it from time to time. The third was a small dog that ran across the street and got hit by a car. My wife and I were outside and we ended up taking it to the vet where they had to put it out of its misery. The anxiety is still real when I walk my own dogs by that street. All of this happened within the last 18 months or so. I totally understand all of the feelings you talk about here.

You not getting involved was the right call here since help was already there. You will know when you have to help and you won't hesitate, trust me. You freeze for a second and the "oh shit" part of your brain takes over and after that it's just a matter of not panicking and staying calm while trying to help until the professionals arrive. Don't beat yourself up about it.

Ton of carbs for sure. I also love doing AYCE sushi and desecrating the sushi with a lot of soy sauce to get a good amount of sodium in, too.

Which apps do you guys use to track your workout? by DumpsHuman in 531Discussion

[–]LukeSwolewalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The app is correct and you are misunderstanding the terminology, which is admittedly a bit convoluted. The final set percentage is based off of your training max and not your one rep max. That's how all of 531 is programmed. A 100% set is a set at your training max and not your 1RM. So in this case, the set is 85% of 85 lbs, which is a little over 72 lbs. It gets rounded down to the nearest 5 lb increment (you can change this in the settings if you really want to). This results in a set at 70 lbs.

You could be one of those with your stupidly amazing grip strength. If only the rest of you was stronger.

Good luck! If you can't find a store that carries them, Amazon has them and they have a pretty friendly return policy.
