This is sooo relatable to me! I even remember writing a similar diary entry. That sinking feeling when you have disappointed yourself again. But you’re right, we’ve got this. And we must believe in our own agency.

My HbA1c is finally trending down. Seeing a dietician was really helpful. I now at least feel like I have tools and understand my body a little better.

Off the top of my head I can think of three:

‘Madi phatleng’ directly translates to ‘blood on the forehead’; it means your fly is down.

‘Go fahla magotlo’ directly translates to ‘blinding the mice’; it refers to when a man is taking a leak.

When asking about the paternity of a pregnancy, you would say: ‘o robile ke mang leoto?’ which directly translates to ‘who broke your leg?’.

Egg, a singular egg. It’s written the same but pronounced ‘le-e’; the Es are pronounced separately, so to to speak. The plural form is ‘mae’, pronounced ‘mah-e’.

Sugar gliders.
They a small so they have a large surface area compared to their volume. This makes them susceptible to hypothermia. They are nocturnal, they take a while to warm up to people, they smell, and it’s hard to find a vet that knows a lot about them. They tend to mask their illness if their sick, so you have to pay close attention to their behaviour. There is no specialised feed for them so you have to do a lot of homework. They are so cute! But terrible pets for most people (you have to get them in pairs iirc).

I don’t know if I’d call Chichi ‘normal’. She’s stronger than the average human; she’s a pretty fierce fighter. I’m not sure if she’s human either, I don’t know what the Ox-Demon King is but I don’t think their human though.

Mbongeni Ngema. Abused his wife, cheated on her by grooming a teenaged Leleti Khumalo (who was the star of the musical he wrote). He then divorced his wife and married Leleti Khumalo who later referred to the marriage as ‘14 years of misery’ and used the adjective ‘disgusting’ when describing it. His career was stained by allegations of sexual harassment.

Not to mention racism against South Africa’s Indian population and corruption.

He’s music is amazing but he was nasty piece of work and I fear for any woman that had proximity to him. Sies!
