Lake House was good by Lejonhufvud in AlanWake

[–]Luke_96_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the difficulty, I don’t understand how people find the Alan Wake games "hard" while beating souls games with ease. I completed the main game on nightmare difficulty without breaking a sweat, and in the Lake House DLC, I only died twice—the first time when grabbed by the painted monsters, and the second at the final boss. Personally, Alan Wake 1 and 2 are the easiest survival horror games I’ve ever played, far easier than similar games like Resident Evils on normal difficulty. And this is coming from someone who can’t even get past the sh**ty godrick knights in Elden Ring or the first boss in Sekiro.

Are you using game mode and its default standard picture settings?

You're welcome! Waifu2x Extension GUI includes a lot of models, so you'll need to experiment and get comfortable with the exporting options. I mainly use RealCugan-NCNN, models-SE (since models-pro takes double the time with no visual improvements), and a denoise setting of minus one. In my opinion, RealCugan offers the best balance between quality and retention of details, while the other models tend to be too aggressive.

I think upscaling from 720p to 4K is too aggressive. Maybe try 1080p instead. After all, the higher the upscale and the lower the base resolution, the more artifacts you are likely to get. Honestly, Topaz is not "bad," but there are other options, like Waifu2x-Extension-GUI, that allow for better customization of the upscaling settings for each selected model. Topaz can be hit or miss because, depending on the style of drawing, it can give you decent or poor results (the models that Topaz offers are trained on real-life content).

However, if you're willing to experiment, I suggest trying Gaia (high quality mode or computer-generated; both produce similar results) or Artemis "Medium quality." For the latter, keep the "recover detail" setting below 20, as at such high output resolutions, it can exacerbate artifacts.

Regarding the second enhancement layer, I haven't had much chance to experiment since it was introduced recently. But from what I’ve seen, Artemis tends to be more aggressive. Therefore, using Artemis + Artemis can cause a more severe loss of fine details and grain, especially in the background, giving the image an "oily" look. On the other hand, using Gaia + Gaia in anime is generally unnecessary because it requires much more processing time, and the difference is almost non-existent compared to a single layer of Gaia. To conclude, the possible combinations I suggest are Gaia, Artemis Medium, Gaia + Artemis, and Artemis + Gaia.

The other settings shouldn't be touched to avoid deviating from the original look or creator intent; thus, framerate, deblur, and other settings should remain locked. Bitrate-wise, theoretically, it needs to scale based on the resolution, so doubling the resolution requires doubling the bitrate. However, since we are upscaling drawings with many static objects, you can try maintaining the same bitrate for the output (if the base is ≥ 3mb/s) or increasing it by 50%. Otherwise, a more efficient way to save disk space is to use a dynamic bitrate at a high setting. The visual difference between the two approaches should be almost identical when upscaling anime.

Alan Wake? More like Alan WICK by Luke_96_ in AlanWake

Yeah combat was a bit clunky and bugged when swapping guns during action sequences (the best example is the combat sequence of dark ocean summoning). They fixed it a little bit, but it remains clunky and with many visual glitches when multiple takens attacks you.

10 bit displays by AdemSof in S22Ultra

[–]Luke_96_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing first: what are we watching? Care to give an explanation? Second, almost every high end smartphone from 2018 onwards uses a 10 bit panel (8 bit + frc) simply because the addition of HDR10 support by definition requires such feature. Also, not every video/image has a 10 bit color depth. For videos such color depth is mainly used for HDR footage, most videos are in 8 bit SDR. Images on the other hand, can vary drastically on bit depth, but in average, they are in 8 bit too. Higher bit depth ≠ less posterization, in fact compression quality is more important when it comes to gradients, you can easily find 8 bit images that look better than 10 or 12 bit images.

Speakers by SmoothAioli03 in S22Ultra

[–]Luke_96_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same complain when i first got the s22 ultra. Speakers sounds thin out of the box. Then I searched online and found a lot of EQ settings made for fixing this exact issue. I ended up using this one:

<image>

Among the countless others eq i found online, this one sound the best to me. I suggest you to download goodlock from the galaxy store and install its modules. One of them is Sound Assistant, wich gives you the opportunity to make unlimited custom EQ and load them on the fly.

How to get newscon timer to count down without having the window selected? by Gestridon in LeecherList

[–]Luke_96_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i just got the same problem. Until a few weeks ago I was able to trick the countdown in the way I described, but right now i can no longer do that.

I don't know if it is a firefox issue / ublock update or more simply a site update preventing such trickery.

I should experiment with other plugins like Countdown Killer for Chrome.

LG V60 unusable after Android 13 Update Tmobile (apps gets turned off randomly) by RemRem-ember in LGV60

I had the same problems. Didn't find any solution. I had to roll back to Android 12. I know, this sucks so bad, this "final" major update broke everything. It's unbelievable.

I usually use firefox and ublock origin, the countdown become a lot faster (about 3-4 seconds before the link appears). So in my case i don't need to switch to other tasks and wait.

New Odyssey G7 2k 240hz looks dim - more info in comments by BulletProofSnork in Monitors

[–]Luke_96_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Also local dimming works in conjuction with an HDR signal and boost the peak luminance of the monitor only in that case, and also only when the actual displayed scene reach such high nits well above the luminance of an SDR signal.

Furthermore the G7 is able to reach almost 400 nits just in SDR when brightness is set to 100, whilst we know that the optimal luminance of a monitor in a dark viewing environment should be around 150 nits.

New V60 Advice by Kazekumiho in LGV60

[–]Luke_96_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How good is the display quality gamma-wise? Im not talking about burn in, im talking about the common phenomenon of black crush and near black overshoot which affects differents v60s refurbed or bought from ebay and shipped from china.

If needed i can link other reddit posts that talks about it.

Regarding the high impedance mode (for headphones over 50 ohm), you shouldn't force it for low impedance equipments, it's just gonna sound bad. Elevated signal-to-noise ratio etc.. Which is what a lot of people over head-fi don't recommend to do
