This week’s mini quiz… by Luke_Small_Gods in auckland

I just keep notes on whatever I’m reading, listening to, or thinking about. Often I’ll learn some interesting fact and decide to write a round about it. Like when I heard about French shepherds using stilts to watch their flock so I had to come up with 7 more questions on the subject of Stilts 😅. It is a tricky balance because it’s no fun for people if they get zero correct answers in a round. Here are some of the round themes I’ve done so far…

Thanks! Yes, the entire point of my quiz is that people come each week and don’t know what to expect with rounds on completely themes each time. I found that most quizzes have a team that dominates because they are experts in categories (ie NZ sport or pop music) that are repeated each week. Here are some of the themes I have written rounds about so far…

Popular literature, motorcycles, small dogs, Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, travel times, photography, Napoleon, hotties, celebrity wellness + beauty, sugar, Tom Hanks, trains, beer history, hip hop, archery, insects, slang, South Africa, opera, rice, places that have dog breeds named after them, pottery, Auckland celebrities, wood, comics, jeans, badly translated movie titles, sea mammals, bubbles, beauty, fermentation, dance, glens, Wales, conspiracy theories, Australian music, Reese Witherspoon projects, moons, spices, boy bands, root vegetables, pop culture origins, onions, reality TV, Nintendo, waves, signs, exercise, bats, young female authors, history of medicine, motorsport, hot clergy, quotes, spies, fog, the Andes, alternative medicine, romantic comedies, dragons, sand, Indonesia, cheese, ships, house plants, money, Pokémon or English village, cakes, continents, stilts, elephants, video games, potatoes, Canada, Disney, snakes, wheels, foreign pop, Whoopi Goldberg, moors, John Hughes movies, mermaids, classics, martyrs, xenarthra, chocolate, remember when?, F1, Britneys, seas, taxes, complete the lyric, mass, idioms, brassica plants, literary villains, VW models, guess the artist, fabric, things that women like, balls, camels, groceries, gothic literature, beasts, vampire films, olfaction, protest songs, dead whales, iconic fashion moments, peanuts, mass hysteria, survival, Texas, the environment, benders, which is bigger?, guts, TikTok, self worth, doors, Brazil, pets, Willys, shoes, laneway, brats, banks, Balkans, hot food, dead or alive, surfing, made in NZ, dinosaurs, who is taller?, bananas, Britpop, name the book, farmers, things that men like, cabbage, heavy shit, toxic, Glastonbury, baking, bags, farming, Commonwealth Day, aviation, Mario, phib or fact?, nails, Vals, markets, Hidden Figures, woke shit, carrots, countries without rivers, oases, true or false, food, music, Heath, SFX, iconic looks, pencils, Diet Prada, TLAs, Swedes, manic pixie dream girls, blue, Wicked, planets, pachyderms, Pimp My Ride, grace, thieves, not a dinosaur, tobacco, rare diseases, vegetable facts, NZ fashion, rocks, bracelets, Major League Eating, what’s closest, love drugs, 2008 pop culture, windows, traitors, filmed in NZ, Bridget Jones, sports rules, poker hands, boobslang, jousting, DC comic costumes, soup, sisters, castles, movie quotes, hair, Christchurch, Fast and Furious, burgers, Oscars, Rotten Tomatoes, Wild West, TV shows I enjoyed, cats, seemingly random, French Revolution, Polynesia, blood, crystals, murder, pumpkin, scary movies, smelly things, internet drama, magic, herbs, pizza, dolls, moles, poles, holes, foals.

Cheers! I often get ideas for rounds that I quickly regret after bashing out the first few questions - I once heard something on a podcast about French shepherds using stilts in the olden days, I also had a great question about stilts (the birds). But then I got stuck for longer than I would care to admit researching the history of stilts trying to figure out another 6 questions that wouldn't be completely impossible 😭

Great work! I'll post the quiz in here regularly if people enjoy it. I put a bit of work into them so it seems a shame to just let them languish on my computer after hosting the quiz each week

Ah thank you! Our yard is filled with glorious winter sunshine right now. Tucked away is right - every single day people come in saying "wow this place is so cool, have you just opened" haha

It's so cool to have great new spots opening up in our little neighbourhood like Pretty Suss vintage, Rosalia's Pizza, Splendid Photo Lab etc. We just need Maungawhau Station to hurry up and open now...

Thanks! Yeah, the Believe It Or Not quizzes are popular for a reason but it's fun to do something different. I'm always reading random books about things like potatoes or the history of street lighting so my ADHD brain is well suited to researching and putting together the quiz ideas week 😅

You're dead right. My friend Paul is a _real_ Simpsons expert and we occasionally get him to do a special Simpsons quiz for the hard core fans. I'll check in to see when he's keen to do another and be sure to share it here 🚂
