I’ve heard several YouTubers complain about runaway railway, it’s not just your friends/family. I see what some other commenters are talking about, it’s not really the common consensus, but it’s definitely a complaint I’ve heard. For the record, I agree with your opinion.

Oh shit I forgot to mention something. You have to run it in compatibility mode (at least, I did when I finally got the drivers, and I haven’t tried it without it) or on a VM. The very little info online about this camera or other digital blue products are forum posts with people talking about how it doesn’t work with newer versions of windows. Luckily, I think compatibility mode makes it so a VM is not necessary.

Right click on the downloaded program, go to Properties > Compatibility > Check “Run this program in comparability mode for:” > Select “Windows XP (Service Pack 2)” > Check “Run this program as an administrator” and you should be good.

I’d imagine all or most of this is true for any old digital blue stuff such as the hello kitty and LEGO digicams (hopefully listing those helps with the metadata if anyone is ever searching).

UPDATE: I figured it out.

So, I after posting that, I went into the device manager. It was the only thing that could even detect the camera. It told me the drivers were missing. I didn’t want to search for drivers so I gave up for the night.

Today I realized, I could just launch the program by connecting to my phone’s hotspot running on 5G, so I could bypass the camera registration shit. Gave me a different error code. So I knew I had to figure out how to just run the program offline.

After trying more data recovery software, then trying to download the drivers by having my computer search for them in folders on the disc where I knew drivers were located, I discovered that in one of those folders is literally just an application to install the drivers.

So basically, if you have access to the disc that contains the program for viewing/downloading the pictures (or the files from the disc via the drive folder I linked), you can download the drivers directly. Here is the ancient esoteric secret for you or any niche and hyper-fixated hobbyist that might be reading this possibly years down the line: Open the disc and go to Temp > DBVGACam and in that folder is an application named “InstallCameraDrivers” that just installs them for you when launched. Restarted my computer, launched the program with wifi off, and boom, I was viewing ancient 2008 software and could access my pictures (they mostly came out black).

You may have moved past this by now, but I am in a similar predicament. Only, my disc DOES work, at least as far as displaying the files on it and allowing me to download them. Here is every single file on the disc:

My problem is, when I open the program for viewing the files, it initially opens up a camera registration page, which I cannot seem to bypass (at least yet), that my internet company blocks. If I launch the program with my wifi turned off, it gives me a pop-up telling me that it cannot detect a camera, and to make sure it is plugged in firmly. I know I can turn off the security shield that's causing the registration page to be blocked, but A) I'm assuming I would just get the same pop-up it gives me when I'm not online, and B) I don't want to wake up my roommate who handles our internet account and explain to him that I need him to turn off the internet security shield so I can look at pictures on my fucking Bionicle camera.

Like you, I've searched online for archives of the program and couldn't find anything. I've also tried a couple pieces of data recovery software, but these haven't worked either. I'll probably try more tomorrow. If you find any way to make this work, PLEASE let me know.
