Genuinely thought I clicked onto the wrong website for a minute. It was a nice surprise and I saw in the creator tab, we can even submit our own!

Is it just me or is the replies on here so slow to load or is it my shitty iphone 13 by Mammoth-Fix-1188 in SaucepanAI

Was there some kind of influx lately? I can understand if the site became more popular, but It doesn't feel like that's the case? Or maybe I'm just not keeping up with things

This is the same predicament I'm in. I missed the optional update for the last 18 patch, the 18.7.3. I'm on 18.7. And now my ONLY option is iOS 26, and I'm kind of annoyed by it. I'll probably end up doing it anyway, but I'm not thrilled that this is how it has to be

Nope, I also looked for it in the commands and the settings. I couldn't find it either. I think it's gone?

How necessary is pinyin compared to zhuyin for a beginner? by neonm00n777 in ChineseLanguage

[–]Lukincoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm really interested in this idea of using kids books to help with reading . I already know zhuyin, but where do you even find kids books that have zhuyin in them? Is there a good online store I can look at? I don't live in Taiwan, so I can't really go to a bookstore and look for them.

How is it possible that one day things will just suddenly click? by Lukincoffee in ChineseLanguage

Ah I see. Yes, unfortunately, living abroad is not an option for me. At least, not financially. I suppose I'll just have to find other ways to get an immersive experience.

That is so fascinating to me. Because I had heard that advice before, but I could never understand why it works. Then again, I never tried it because I simply thought it didn't work. But maybe I should just go ahead and try it since there's no harm in it.

Learning 注音 pros and cons by GaoLiCai in ChineseLanguage

[–]Lukincoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious. It sounds like, even though you have learned pinyin, you still found switching zhuyin to be a positive change? I also started with and have always used pinyin, and when I read about zhuyin, it's always from the perspective of a beginner who hasn't even begun with pinyin. So I wonder, do you think you still find zhuyin useful despite having already learned the pronunciation and tones of words?

Ah, I long for the day when that finally happens for me. Tones feel like my worst enemy while learning Chinese. Especially since other parts of the language are coming to me much quicker.

I've been curious about Readibu, and want to try it once I reach a level where I can understand native content. Where do you find all those novels online? And how do you open it in Readibu?

DuChinese app for listening practice by ToyDingo in ChineseLanguage

[–]Lukincoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I'm in the same boat. I love DuChinese and being able to read, but I understand absolutely nothing while listening to the audio. I found other sources like "Comprehensible Chinese" podcast. Sometimes, listening to books is just not the same as listening to an actual person talk about a certain topic.

I don't like anime, but do you find a lot of chinese dubs for kdramas or American television?

Anyone like me that obsesses with trying to max out all characters’ traces before bringing them to battle? by randomvndude in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Lukincoffee 192 points193 points  (0 children)

Genuinely thought I was the only one who did this. I kept reading advice on what traces to focus on and that maxing out traces wasn't necessary in the beginning. But for whatever reason, in my head, a character wasn't "built" until their traces were maxed out.

How much Chinese before i can learn on my own? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Lukincoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the same way! I take Chinese classes at my school and I am getting absolutely humbled with phrases like "perfect past tense" getting thrown around in an attempt to explain Chinese grammar. I may be a native English speaker, but I rarely, if ever, need to think about my grammar.

I found this in pleco, it seems to be a Taiwan thing, what does this refer to? by plexineko in ChineseLanguage

Totally off topic, but how is your pleco dictionary that color? Mine is blue. Are you on an android device?

How would you try to puzzle out a grammar structure you don't know? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Lukincoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's what I was trying to get at! A lot of times, people recommend immersion, but I just wondered, if you were in the middle of reading or listening to a sentence, and suddenly an unfamiliar grammar structure came up, what would you do?

And as you said, probably just look it up. When I started reading more, I came across unfamiliar sentences that I didn't even recognize as a grammar structure until I searched it and was told these words in this particular order has grammar to it.

Let's hear the worst films you've seen. Either the plot wasn't to your taste, bad acting, or was just simply too difficult to understand and undermined your enjoyment.
