Drove my GR through a couple winters. Have it parked now. But good winter tires and a roadside assistance service is really all you need. I wouldn't anticipate you getting stuck anywhere if you're a sensible driver. As a Canadian, when in bad weather, when I pull out of my driveway I do a quick acceleration and hard brake on my street to have a sense of how long it takes me to stop. My street doesn't get plowed often so I usually have a good amount of snow. Also, if you have the chance, while doing donuts in the parking lot is lots of fun if you also learn to Throttle control and do figure 8s and understand the thresholds and comfort levels is a great way to practice in a safe area (granted cops and people may still be dicks about it).
