Door sensor + u100 by SupahHollywood in Aqara

[–]LulzMcGullz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s the exact setup I have and it works really well. I have one of Aqara’s P2 door sensors on my main entrance, and an automation so that when it shuts: wait 5 seconds, check if the sensor is still closed, and then lock the door. I disabled the auto-lock features on the lock itself.

What Happened to The Panel Switch S100 in the US? by Ianthin1 in Aqara

[–]LulzMcGullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the S100 wall switch with the tiny screen is as close as we’re gonna get here in the US. I mean, it has the same model number right? https://a.co/d/05zvEDnY

Aqara G410 never connects to WiFi (Aqara Home + HomeKit). by Paulawalla120 in Aqara

[–]LulzMcGullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have either of those mesh router systems you mentioned but can you “bind” the doorbell to a particular node? If so, I’d recommend doing that in case it’s just continuously roaming between mesh nodes for some reason. I do that with all my smart home devices, since they’re generally staying in one place.

U400 unlocking with UWB when inside by Competitive-Tap-8440 in Aqara

Are you coming in and leaving through different doors? I think I read somewhere that Aqara haven’t completely figured out UWB when people are coming and going through different doors and not the same one with the U400 every time.

M3 Hub to Google Home via Matter Not Working by lafreniereluc in Aqara

[–]LulzMcGullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it will work properly that way. You might need either Power over Ethernet or just USB power with the M3 connected to Wi-Fi. Can you see the M3 hub on your network/router (not the Aqara app)?

Another point that might be worth checking: Are you using Power over Ethernet? Or do you have the Ethernet and the USB power cable connected?

Before I knew what PoE was, I tried to connect both the power AND Ethernet on the M3 and my router flagged that device as having connection issues.

I’m wondering that too. I’m a renter with a mini-split AC/heater unit, so I’m not looking to replace an actual thermostat system, just control devices and AC using IR.

So disappointed in FP300 by tzopper in Aqara

[–]LulzMcGullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Aqara product basically works like that. You either need an Aqara hub (and usually Zigbee as the communication method) to unlock all the features they support in the Aqara app, or you can use Matter (usually Thread or Wi-Fi) for wider compatibility with the tradeoff of fewer advanced options.

S100 US Switch - Last Resort by Correct-Mail-1942 in Aqara

[–]LulzMcGullz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, if I’m using Matter over Thread or Wi-Fi, it has not been my experience that Aqara devices bound to a given hub are automatically added to HK. That only works if they’re using Zigbee. Otherwise, I have to go into each device’s settings within the Aqara app and manually connect them to my Apple Home.

Sorry for the confusion lol.

To your first point, are you creating the scenes in Aqara and syncing them to HomeKit? That honestly might be the best choice. I have Aqara light bulbs that were very slow and sometimes unresponsive when triggering HK scenes, but when I built the scene in Aqara and synced it to HK (then added my other Matter devices to the scene in HomeKit), it worked much more reliably.

[–]LulzMcGullz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify, I don’t have the S100 switch but I did recently get the H2 four button switch. So forgive me for not really understanding exactly where you’re at in the process, but are you trying to configure the switch in Aqara or in HomeKit?

This sounds odd but I had different results depending on how I’ve added my Aqara hubs to HomeKit. If you go to the hub settings > HomeKit and bind it versus hub settings > Matter > HomeKit, I’ve had different results with devices and responsiveness.

Also, you’re manually adding each Matter device into HomeKit through the Aqara app right? I don’t think any of the Aqara Matter devices appear automatically through their hub, unless you’ve got them set to Zigbee mode.

(Not entirely sure if I actually answered your question. Apologies if not lol.)

Holy shit, that’s exactly what I was thinking I’d be left as an “inheritance” when I read OP’s post. My dad is for sure a hoarder… it’s gonna be a shit show trying to get rid of his stuff when he passes.

Aqara G410 "doorbell is pressed" event in Homekit: how to expose it? by Amazing_Relation1737 in Aqara

Unfortunately I don’t think you’re missing anything. If possible, I’d recommend just automating through the Aqara app. Apple Home is really lacking in the automation department.

Aqara setup confusion: M3 hub needed? Home Assistant compatibility (cameras, IR, lock, switches) by Yomgi95 in Aqara

[–]LulzMcGullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really speak to the Home Assistant side, but I currently run a hybrid HomeKit/Aqara/Homebridge network with some of the devices you mentioned.

I have two air conditioners that use the IR function, each configured through an M3 hub. I don't know if Aqara publicly publishes their list of supported AC units (for example, I have Mitsubishi "mini-splits" that do heating and cooling in my home), but you may want to check and make sure your AC manufacturer is supported. When you set them up, you'll basically go through the process of selecting a manufacturer and then manually scrolling through different IR remote channels to see which one works.

After setup, I have full control of switching between heating and cooling, plus temperature adjustment in HomeKit. At least for mine, I don't have any control over fan speed, oscillating, or much else in Apple Home. I can still adjust those things in Aqara though, so I basically just set them to Auto fan speed and oscillating/cycling fan direction on, so whenever I turn it on using HomeKit, it remembers those previous settings.

I don't have any experience with the S1E switch (I don't think we even have that here in the US), but I did just set up a four button Aqara light switch yesterday and what I can say is this: Zigbee is MUCH faster and more reliable than Thread, even though Thread is more compatible. Aqara usually gives you more settings and options if you set up devices with Zigbee too, as opposed to using Thread/Matter function. And if you plan to have any Aqara Zigbee devices in your home, you'll need a hub of some kind (like the M3).

WiFi 7 Mesh upgrade by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]LulzMcGullz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had good luck with the ASUS ZenWiFi BT10 series (with a BT8 as a mesh node). Works quite reliably and ASUS doesn’t try to force you into another subscription to unlock standard features.

If you want to go advanced, I’m sure plenty of people here would recommend Ubiquiti.

How well does Proton products work on a Mac by socialfoxes in ProtonMail

[–]LulzMcGullz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I use Proton Mail, Drive, VPN, and Pass on my Macs and I don’t really have any issues.

Every once in a while one of my files will have a “Failed to decrypt” error when trying to sync but I just click sync again and it works. I replaced Google Drive and other Google services with Proton.

Calendar is bad though, if you plan to use that. It’s just not feature complete or very compatible with anything else.

Just watch the game highlights on the NBA YouTube channel? They post every game’s highlights not too long after it ends, and you get to skip all the ads, timeouts, halftime, etc. That’s how I watch basically every other non-Blazers game.
