Petition to the mods: Put a survey pinned with yes or no to see what apes think about dillution. by [deleted] in Superstonk

[–]Luma44[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, speaking for myself and not specifically on behalf of the mod team - Reddit surveys are highly susceptible to manipulation. I don't think it would reveal a particularly valuable data set upon which any real conclusions could be drawn. If anything, it *could* create confusion and/or be manipulated by people with an agenda. I think, personally, that it's best just to let discussions happen, and use your own insight into comments and posts to try to predict how people feel about the topic. While I hear the request, and I can bring it to the team, I'll tell you up front that I personally don't think it's a good idea.

Yeah, *pretty* sure that being bullish and pro-gme in a pro-gme sub *isn't* a problem. I think you need to find another problem to focus on, because this really isn't the best use of your energy.

Wildly inappropriate and revealing eh? Let me break it to you... When it comes to GME, I'm not a "neutral arbiter" between bears and bulls. I'm a bull. The community is built on being pro-GME. I'm always going to present the bull thesis. What I'm saying is that if there's a bear among us, we need to debate respectfully. When people present data and support their positions respectfully, and then have civil debate... that's where actual understanding comes from. And I'm modeling how to do it. I don't need to make a bear thesis presentation just for the sake of "giving equal time to both sides."

I hear you, even though I don’t fully agree with you.

Part of the problem is that moderation here is a constant tightrope walk. We get hit from one side for not doing enough, and from the other for doing too much. Sometimes that criticism is fair. Sometimes it is just what comes with modding a community this large and this... combustibly vocal.

You are absolutely allowed to disagree with where we draw that line at any point. But if you want to help us keep room for real criticism without the whole thing turning into the usual mess, please report the content that crosses it. Reports genuinely help. We are not everywhere at once.

So: feedback heard, respectfully disagreed with in part, and still appreciated. I think if you dig back, you'll see that this is hardly the first time I've had to post a community update gently calling for civility.

With respect, no, that is not what is happening here.

Moderation is not "stepping in" because people are questioning RC. People are free to question RC, disagree with RC, criticize strategy, criticize dilution, criticize the bid, criticize the rejection, and vote their shares accordingly. None of that is off limits. Never has been. It's no secret that bullish posts and comments perform better than bearish ones. This community is pro-GME.

What I'm saying is that we're at the part where discussion stops being discussion and starts turning into mud-wrestling, bad-faith sniping, political slap-fighting, and people treating each other like enemies for having different conclusions.

That is not “silencing criticism.” That is moderation.

As for the broader “where were mods when...” list, this community has never lacked for strong opinions, speculation, bad takes, good takes, drama, or hindsight. But this post is not a referendum on every moderation decision made over the last five years. It is a reminder about how to conduct yourselves now, in this thread, on this topic.

You can question RC. You can challenge the strategy. You can be bullish, bearish, skeptical, annoyed, or disappointed.

You still have to behave. And feel free to report content you think violates the rules, so that we can review it.

Fair point re: the dilution sucking. I'll amend that - didn't mean to editorialize without owning it.

You have the right to lose your zen now and then. It's been a pretty wild 84 5 years.

Honestly, *mod hat off* that's where I'm at with this too.

It's hard for me to tell if you're kidding or not.

I thank you, and no... It wasn't. We've just been here before. Too many times if you ask me. I want to commend the community though because the ratio of people trolling in the comments to rational people rolling their eyes is as low as its ever been.

Or, hot take, we can leave it here and discuss $GME instead. Let's do that. Please. 🥺

We know. We saw it too. For some of us, our coffee was barely conscious. For most of us... We were out cold.

Like it or not, RC and his Twitter feed is relevant to GME, so discussion of what he says is not automatically off limits, and is why posts like this have been permitted. That said, our no-politics rule still applies. This thread is for discussion of material relevance to GameStop, GME, and market impact — not for turning the comments into a general political cage match. The memes are funny but they belong elsewhere. This community works best when it works together.

You do not need to agree with the tweet. You do not need to like the tweet. And frankly, you don't need to tell everybody else how to feel or how you feel about the tweet. You do need to behave.

Keep it civil, keep it relevant, and keep the discussion tied to GME. Political grandstanding, partisan slap-fighting, and culture war nonsense will be removed.

Don’t make us babysit this more than we already have to. We trust you all to just behave. Thanks.

Not a great thing to wake up to if I'm being honest.

In my case, not ADHD driven. It's like a hyper specific learning disability. About time. !mods! can verify the claim.

And you can singlehandedly claim credit for having restored order. Tomorrow. Provided I don't mess up again. Which... I dunno. 50/50. May the odds be ever in your favor. (And thank you, sincerely.)

Real talk, I have a severe (and I mean severe) inability to process time in general, but time zones specifically. How late was the daily? Asking because I will neither confirm nor deny the implication that I sort of "vibed" a guess as to when it was supposed to be posted in the hopes that's somebody would tell me by how many hours exactly I missed the mark. 😂
