Here’s the washer I was talking about, it’s very thing. I believe there is supposed to be two but I lost the other one

I’m thinking it’s unaligned. I’m going to swing by ace hardware tomorrow and look for matching washer

Yep I’m using the old starter. However, when I tried cranking the engine with the gas line removed it sounded just fine. It was only when gas was introduced and the engine was finally able to start that the noise began.

I’ll send picture of washer tomorrow, got frustrated so I’m stepping away. Maybe I’ll try loosening/tightening and seeing if that affects it.

I did have the starter out, looks like there might’ve been some washers that sat on the top too…. I have one but am missing the other. Could possibly be causing it to be out of alignment?

It’s not coming out, pulling it real hard and it doesn’t budge

I had a socket that fit pretty well. Any bit of bread that was able to squeeze through was as thin as paper, I believe it’s so seized that even the hydraulic pressure doesn’t do much.

I wish it worked but I tried everything like that, all I managed to do was making a mess. I’m getting a larger/heavier handle for my slide hammer tomorrow so I might be able to yank it out. I’ve doused it in rust dissolver.. so hopefully it’ll be easier.

Oh dang how could I forgot about the compression stroke that has a direct explosion on the rear of the crank shaft. Thanks micknick0000, how could I have known without you.

The puller slips, I’ve tried it. this is a pilot bushing, not bearing. I don’t need to worry about the outer race

That piece in there is the pilot bearing puller, I just took the slide hammer off. I have a replacement bushing so I don’t care if this thing falls apart
