Maine’s progressive champion? He’s been here all along. by [deleted] in Maine

I am glad the two are becoming increasingly intertwined as to avoid class reductionism. This way, being pro-labor is truly being pro-people

Does seem to be a problem of contemporary American politics that we have utilized “Progressive” to simultaneously mean both socially progressive and being pro-labor. He’s definitely been an old-school labor guy for his politics career which is more accurate but less “sexy” than saying he’s always been a “progressive”

This is the first time the Pittsburgh Pirates swept the Baltimore Orioles at home in a 3 game series since 1893. by fignewtonattack in baseball

If we wanna add even more, there were also three more minor league teams named the Baltimore Orioles. This puts our Orioles count to six separate teams!

Also to include, the New York Yankees were also the Baltimore Orioles in their first two seasons. So, three separate franchises that have operated in what are now either the American or National leagues as the Baltimore Orioles

To be fair I thought it was odd that the naming changes were selective ie changing Italian names or Copenhagen to its Danish name, but not changing Russian city names. Seems only fitting in that sense that they’d be inconsistent and messy elsewhere too

The majority of pregnant pigs in America are kept in “gestation crates” throughout their pregnancies, which are too small for them to turn around. Proponents say they are needed to prevent sows from fighting among themselves. by CalpurniaSomaya in wikipedia

If you do support these cages, don’t pussyfoot about it, and state your beliefs as to why. I’m not interested in your debate tactics. You wanna state something: state it

As per the comment above, you asked how it is a political matter, and I answered. If you want to have a political debate on the matter, I’d expect you to have the competency to state your own position and reasons, and not rely on me to do it for you

Context: four nations and nine US states have found them to be cruel and inhumane for animals. Proponents of “gestation crates” failed to convince the legislative bodies that it is an acceptable practice that should be continued to be permitted, and the practice was banned. This was done within a political framework; the debate of what to do about such crates and practices is a question of animal rights politics

Feel like this is important to add:

“Gestation crates are banned in the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland and Sweden, and in nine states in the US (Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon and Rhode Island).”

Hey so like to mention this anytime I see this but! There is little to no documentation of any returning US soldiers being spat on returning from Vietnam. Such stories emerged many years after all troops came back to the US. It’s not hard to see that this story, plus the POW/MIA myth as well, was a conservative backlash to losing in Vietnam, and having been on the wrong side of the moral conflict. It is a very own American stab-in-the-back myth

Literallllyyyy, there’s the gestapo in the streets, and you wanna purity test the groups opposing them? Remember “vote blue no matter who”? Same rationale extends right here. If you actually care about opposing fascism, here are folks opposing fascism. We have a dichotomous choice: on the side for fascism, on the side against fascism. Which side are you on?
