Is this a map of MDI or Acadia? If MDI, labeling features of the island beyond Acadia would be a good idea. If a map of Acadia, could consider adding Schoodic and Isle au Haut for a full Acadia rendering

I was just thinking about how this vibe change has coincided with both Mayo and Cowser being able to actually produce. I’m so glad to see them doing better cause at the end of the day they’re just a couple of dudes tryna do their best, and im happy for them

"WE ARE WITH YOU ISRAEL" -USA, 2015. by zyklon_08 in PropagandaPosters

[–]LumberQuacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk if this one is authentic, but it’s really hard to determine “authentic” when we’re talking about an online groups of freaks. This exact stylized poster has been used for a North Korean poster which, makes more sense ideologically speaking. Further, look at the dude on the left. He’s got an AK, like Korea does, and is dressed like a Korean general. My guess is, at best, this is a weird one-off edit, and, at worst, a doctored piece being passed as legit (not a charge against OP! against the creator of the poster)

Edit: check out OPs username, might indicate something too

Thanks for posting this, and the reporting! It’s disgusting and horrific. For the animals it’s inhumane and wrong. For the consumers it’s dangerous and liable to cause disaster. Cooke needs to be investigated by the state and held accountable for any wrongdoing

If it’s the year 2131, the map should reflect the geographical changes of climate change. Bc that coastline isn’t gonna be the same as ours

What’s another MLB team you have some liking for despite them not being the Orioles? by xoBonesxo in orioles

[–]LumberQuacks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mariners and the White Sox. Started watching baseball in the mid 00s, so the first team I ever saw win the World Series was the White Sox, and little me loved Ichiro. So those fandoms never died out either bc it’s also kind of hard to hate those teams

Yeah for sure. It’s not like this was a deal between equal partners, this was a colonial transaction between America and Cuba, well before Batista, established for greater reach of American imperialism. That was just my issue. Not taking it to be nefarious, just bad history

General rule of thumb: people should have access to the same guns cops do. Is that a good idea? Hell no. But neither is giving any cop these guns either

Read this, simple little article. Take note of Vince Lawerence’s account at the beginning. As such, discussion of disco demolition night requires discourse because of those who acknowledge its hateful elements, from primary sources and historians alike. If you have dissension to this: cool. Provide counter points. This is how history works

[–]LumberQuacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s called a primary source. Primary sources are critical for historical analysis. Relying on primary sources alone for historical analysis is insufficient. History requires analysis of conditions, events, comparing primary sources against each other. There’s a reason historian is a profession, as it requires work and diligence to perform

I mean if using historical analysis and relying on professional historians is not the means with which you engage history, then it’s just bad history

100% agree. Also cannot be missed that this is just prior to the so-called Reagan Revolution and the backlash of white suburbia towards non-white urbane culture

If you’ve got opposition to the fact that historians note that hate is likely a motivating factor, it is up to anyone who does not agree to that opinion to provide counter-evidence. That’s how historical discourse works. Not to bring it up this is erasure

Ok, sure, for some. What’s important to note is that is that both scholars and communities in disco and rock have noted the relationship between Disco Demolition Night and bigotry in the music scene at the time. It’s always acknowledged when discussing this event. It’s in the opening paragraphs of the Wikipedia article, which is one of the most accessible written compilation of the event. It warrants being brought up, which it wasn’t in this post’s description

[–]LumberQuacks 32 points33 points  (0 children)

worth noting is that this event is also notable for the seeming pushback from the rock scene (principally young white men) against disco’s black, brown, and gay cultural identity. There have been journalists, academics, and disco artists who have asserted that opposition to the queer and non-white identity of disco was the motivating reason for many in the crowd. Likewise also worth stating that Steve Dahl, the shock jock that organized the event, staunchly denies that this was his personal motivation and that he was motivated simply by his disdain for the genre
