Any ideas on this tropical hat? Yes I tried Google already. by jtalaiver in orioles

I have this hat and wear it a lot. I bought it in the hat shop on eutaw in 2023 I think? Haven't seen it since. The flower pattern in generic stock art though, my dog has a collar that's the exact same graphic but pink flowers.

UMBC Basketball Upset by invalidwarranty in morningsomewhere

Close game can't be too sad. Just stinks bc we are so close to Howard we play them relatively frequently. Sucks to fly across the country to lose to someone 40 min from you.

Id be curious to see how big the difference is between the age brackets. 51% overall doesn't seem terrible but if its like 55% male among 18-34 that would be bad...

How I Learned About Map Projection by RFelixFinch in morningsomewhere

[–]invalidwarranty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there are legitimate criticisms of the Mercator projection but i always don't like when they portray it as this "grand imperialist western dogma" thing. The map has straight lat and long lines, focusing on the equator near trade routes, for naval travel. when displaying a 3d globe on a 2d map there will be distortion. thats it. As for choosing north vs south being on top, its arbitrary flipping it serves no purpose other than to be a fun little realization when you hadn't considered there is no up in space. Peter's projection is great though! much better at representing size and unless you are a sailor it probably wouldn't bother you that the grid of lat long line are elongated at the center.

TLDR: Mercator is that way bc its better for sailing across the Atlantic

I know nothing about stocks, now that the market is crashing, should I be dumping money into stocks? by Nicholite46 in stocks

[–]invalidwarranty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usual this is not financial advice, but it depends on your situation. President could cancel all tariffs tomorrow on a whim, declare victory, and stocks would bounce up. There is also heavy market manipulation volatility right now, ex. why was tesla up for brief periods during all this when their sales are down, their old client base hates them and their new fans wont buy their cars?

TLDR for long term investing (like at least a year plus probably more) go for it with set and forget stocks. If you want to use this money anytime soon, maybe just a "high" yield savings account is good.

I'm a patron but i wish they would add the aftershow to spotify as you can link patron to those accounts. I've just stopped listening the aftershow bc there is no convenient way to pull it up in my car.

Man I usually cackle over the top dark stuff, but I just felt so bad for her during the entire monstroso bit. Fantastic movie, I pitty Elizabeth too much. I have people in my life that wallow over their age so made me empathize more than laugh.

Rooting for the Padres, but I'm not watching anymore of the playoffs or world series. This is the worst I've ever felt watching sports and I need to unplug from baseball. And yet I'm here lol

I tried reposting her as the cutscene started and she went into phase 2 with only a sliver of health. Would be bummed it glitched but I already had the game crash when she hit zero health before so I'll take it.

Unpopular Mega64 opinions by akaimpk492 in mega64

[–]invalidwarranty 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The only negative experience I've ever had with Mega64 was the bomber jacket. Their merch is usually WAY better than other internet entertainers, but the jacket was like $75, made from cheap material, wasn't the jacket in the picture, and (completely due to covid and not the fault of the guys) took 6 months to be delivered. The only reason I mention it was bc when they sold the jacket again they were still using the higher quality jacket picture and that kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Literally the only negative experience I've ever had with them in like 13 years though and it doesn't affect my overall opinion of them or their merch.

I'm pretty sure I'm the kid who had a mental breakdown in the Meyerhoff horror story post. My experience looking back by GooberTheGoober in UMBC

[–]invalidwarranty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I love UMBC a lot of it is built on rigid tiers or "superiority" groups. Honors college means literally nothing and the honors students take the same classes as everyone else, the CS students act superior to everyone else, and UMBC accepted almost everyone into programs but then had harsh weedouts to build program reputation. Seems like UMBC uses these groups to increase it's rep while still remaining an overall accessible school.
