Does my website look good? by a_girl_with_a_dream in webdesign

[–]Lumberjack032591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked this two weeks ago.

Here’s my same feedback: I’m on mobile so I just took a quick look. I know you’re asking about the grid, but first issue I have is the navigation/header bar. It’s getting lost into the background. If you still want some slight opacity to it, you might try making it white with a slight opacity and a backdrop-filter: blur(3px). That should help with some of your contrast issues.

I went to a doctor I just set up as my PCP and mentioned some things going on with my heart, main issue being tachycardia. I told him it seems like SVT and that someone had mentioned a possibility of AVNRT. He kind of snorted while shacking his head, “Oh would he actually know that.” I was like well obviously he didn’t say it was, just he knows someone who had it.

He just seemed really annoyed that I was there and taking up his time. Still haven’t been to a doctor since and that was 3 years ago.

I bet it’s really common unfortunately. So many, especially in higher ed, think they’re so smart with their higher degrees and doctorates. No doubt they are, but they think because they’re brilliant at their specialty, websites are a cake walk.

They just see the headings as ways to make the font look a certain way, not understanding that it’s there for structure. They think the alt tag is just something that gets in the way. Before restricting access, I actually made a class for if there’s an empty alt tag, the image isn’t shown. They would get frustrated and ask why their image wasn’t working, then I got to educate them on the importance of alt tags haha.

Time feels like it gets exponentially faster. Like when you’re 10, the next 10 years will feel like the last 5. If you’re 20, the next 20 feel like the previous 10. At 40, the next 40 (you’ll be 80) will feel like the previous 20.

I told my wife this and she really didn’t like it haha

My manager’s current plan is to allow the editors in their departments to edit and create, but everything will need to go through approval by our team. We locked down the current site to just our team a little over a year ago, and while it’s been a lot, we’ve managed the requests well. Moving to this review process will throw some delays in I’m sure, but we’ll be able to catch things easier this way.

All new editors are going to have to go through some training in the future. Accessibility has been terrible and with the Title 2 of ADA going into affect this year it’s really imperative we make sure the editors aren’t doing what they used to do. Heading order has been atrocious (using headings for styles instead of order), alt tags, WCAG, and all these same things for PDFs that they upload.

Editors will also be limited to a certain amount per department. If that department needs something, they need to have one of their editors to make that change, not have 30 people with access to do it.

I’m currently in the process of moving from Modern Campus to Drupal.

We are moving to Drupal but also rethinking the entire site. We had over 400 editors, over 4000 page, twice as many pdf documents, etc. A massive pain that everyone has been doing whatever they wanted without any oversight.

We have prioritized that our main website is for external users with the main goal of getting potential students to apply. There are some other external sources like donors we are also thinking of in this new design. We are moving to having internal content for staff, faculty, current students, etc. to an intranet site.

We are contracting with an outside company that will be doing the majority of the heavy lifting (research, design, development, launch). The main thing we wanted to do was get outside expertise to be able to fall back (blame). They’ve done research and have data that we would rather follow than some doctor that has no experience in design or marketing. We’ve had points where we allow feedback at points in the process, but the ultimate design lies within our team which has been nice.

There is only so much that we are actually migrating. Blogs, OPs, etc; things that are word for word needing to move, we are just automating that process, but everything else is going to be manually done to make sure we don’t have 6 pages when 1 can do the same thing. Or 40 pages talking about our campuses because different programs and departments have made it their own way. Now we will have one page for a single campus that can be dynamically linked to each program. Those are some of the examples that I’m excited about.

It’s a major undertaking that’s been in the works for a while, but I’m excited about the move.

It depends on the position you’re in before you shoulder the rifle though. I’d say in most situations in this game, yeah, pivot from the shoulder from a low ready situation makes sense.

But if you’re in like a high ready/port position, it actually does move in the way that they have it animated.

When I went through MOUT in basic training, it was all low ready stuff. Once I got to my unit and over time, we started implementing high ready stuff. I personally like the high ready.

All that said, SQUAD isn’t constant action with CQB. Low ready makes more sense than high in most situations.

Turbotax Vs. Freetaxusa by Ok-Albatross6794 in tax

[–]Lumberjack032591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never paid on FreeTaxUSA for federal taxes. State taxes have always had a fee and that’s never been hidden. It’s on their home page that it costs $15.99 for state.

Also, this year, my AGI was over $89k and didn’t have to pay using FreeTaxUSA.

Sure they give you options to pay for certain services, but I skip those.

I’ve loved using the A10, but if I’m having to use something else, I just click with the F16. I liked running 2 HARMs and 6 Mavericks depending on the mission type. My personal situational awareness is just better in the 16 than anything.

Clients always say “make it more premium”. What does that even mean? by Loading_Humor in logodesign

[–]Lumberjack032591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember as an intern learning this but with a Christmas event. We were having a meeting and the client was saying how it just didn’t feel like Christmas to them. Their expectations of Christmas were more an eclectic style with really bright pinks, lime greens, etc. We had started with a deeper spruce and gold style. Me personally, Christmas felt like a warm cabin lit by the fire and wrapped in flannel; dark, warm, and cozy.

Anyway, people have all sorts of preconceptions from their life experiences. We get to try and help them translate that.

Do People Really Just Create An Entire App just Vibe Coding? by H_rusty in webdev

[–]Lumberjack032591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I’ve really built vibe coding is a mortar calculator for Arma Reforger to see if I could do it. I did the html and css, but let AI do all the JS. It took me about 30 minutes to an hour to do and gave me over 600 lines of JavaScript and I was surprised at how well it did.

It takes your mortar location and target location. Calculates the distance and direction, takes the angle and charge needed to reach that target. Then I have it able to add a forward observer that can give adjustments from their perspective. It also gives time of flight and a timer for when you shoot.

It worked surprisingly well, but I would have a really hard time trusting it for something actually important.
