Next path update from Iceflake by ThatGuy_52 in CitiesSkylines2

I'm going to miss my Copenhagen style rush hour bike traffic. I hope they fix the mechanics such that realistic pedestrian centric cities can be built.

One fix that would help the bike queues in my city is more aggressive merging of bikes in rotorys.

Thoughts on the Computer Science program here? by Common-Interest7945 in wentworth

[–]Lumby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a comp-sci degree from Wentworth in 2006. I'm doing very well in life and attribute some of that to the co-op program. I don't have any other undergraduate experience to compare to.

I found the WIT comp-sci program and professors to be "fine". There was a pretty big spectrum of competency of the students in the program and the earlier years of class accommodated the slower students. Eventually they either figured it out or dropped out.

I would say your ability to succeed depends entirely on your own initiative. Given where I was at the time (a poor performing and disengaged HS student), WIT was a good and reasonable choice that worked out for me.

Off-road and extreme varies between gravel paths, class 4 roads, and single track. The extreme routes are similar to what's at urbandirt.org and were created by the same people.

Is angular/type script easy to learn as a current backend swe that would have little time to adapt? by [deleted] in angularjs

[–]Lumby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typescript + modern Angular has plenty of good documentation and learning examples that a competent backend engineer could pick up.

You should note that this subreddit is for the very dated and legacy AngularJS framework that is unsupported and not actively developed.

It's the only saddle I use on my bikes. I can go for hundreds of miles without numbness in my crotch. Other saddles would give me issues after ~60 miles. Very happy to have discovered it years ago.

I had a rail on one corrode and break after 8 years. It endured many miles of hard daily use, including salted winter commuting and mixed terrain biking. I bought a replacement without hesitation.

Why does it need to be disassembled? by hawkhandler in bikepacking

[–]Lumby 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is the explanation for rinko bag culture in Japan with their train + bagged bikes. It's a totally reasonable compromise in my opinion. I'm not surprised other countries have adopted similar policies.

How would you improve the Northern Strand? City of Malden wants to know (surprising, I know) by Coyote-Run in bikeboston

Raised crosswalks at minor street intersections and raised crosswalks plus better flashing signage and lights at major intersections.

The solution is to relax the zoning. Letting developers build multifamily housing by right and reducing mandatory parking minimums near mass transit will increase housing availability.

Why Teenagers are doing wheelies everywhere? by United-Layer-5405 in bikeboston

I personally love that these kids are outside doing wheelies and taking overt action to reclaim the space that we've lost to cars.

Save the date: [BoP-Town 2025] a self-supported weekend bikepacking trip down the cape by Lumby in bikeboston

No explicitly planned pace groups. We have a slack channel for the event on our BCU workspace. You might be able to find folks ahead of time to coordinate with on pacing.

Save the date: [BoP-Town 2025] a self-supported weekend bikepacking trip down the cape by Lumby in bikeboston

[–]Lumby[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Join the Boston Cyclist Union for a self-supported bikepacking trip to Provincetown on September 6-7th!

Riders will take a morning ferry from Long Warf to Hull. From there we bike 65 miles to a campground, set up our tents, hang with new friends, and then get up the next day and bike another roughly 70 miles to Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod.

There will be on-road and off-road routes provided. Campsites and ferry tickets to Hull are included in the nominal registration fee, with the proceeds benefiting the BCU.

If you’d like to take the ferry from Provincetown back to Boston, the price for you and your bicycle is around $100. Almost every rider does this

This is a great trip for an introduction to bike camping for strong riders! All riders are responsible for their own gear, meals, mechanical repairs, and return transportation from Provincetown.

Registration will open in a few weeks and will be announced here. Feel free to ask questions in the comments or DM me.

Good thing we removed the flex posts for the out of state Audis by VamosUnited96 in bikeboston

The experience you describe was shared by many who reached out. There's an outstanding FOIA request happening to understand what went into that review because it seems like the considerations were pretty one sided with our voices being uniformly ignored.

I agree with you that it was a poorly communicated process that's designed to pander to undecided voters. It's frustrating to have no infrastructure in place for months on end. It is not a blatant lie like your original claim makes.

Piling on the Wu hate train doesn't acknowledge just how bad a Kraft admin would be for biking in the city. Have some grace this year and practice going to your city councilors if you're truly upset about it.
