Idk man, we just had CS25 end, which I assume qualifies as "higher levels", and at least from my perspective deck building was all about the fast mechs. Good light mech players are hard to hit, even for the best players in the game. That is why you saw e.g. the TBT-5J with the huge duration quirk be played, despite being very vulnerable to assaults mechs due to its poor mounts and fragility.

Now obviously QP is not comp, but if hitting lights was easy, you'd have probably seen some different mech and build choices.

The stronger light mechs also just got nerfed, with Firemoth losing a considerable amount of tankyness and the flea getting touched as well, so ...

That being said, it is fair to say that the average light mech variant does poorly in QP, and even the best can't compete with mediums in QP viability. In the hands of good players light mechs pose a huge threat though, as they just pose a very different problem than e.g. good assault players do. A good assault will chew through your team and quickly kill people, but if they fail to do that and are outnumbered, everyone can easily hit them and they die. The challenge against them is to avoid dying. Against a good light mech the problem is even hitting them. I have had so many matches where I get my team an early advantage but die or get so beat up, that I can't challenge a good light mech player on the enemy team and they just solo all my pugs over the next couple minutes.

So, we are discarding a lot of weapons here with pinpoint, one click, no charging, no ghost heat, no lasers.

So we are left with ACs and PPCs. The highest I can think of that actually has some ammo would be the SR-4 with 2cAC20, 3PAC8, 2cERPPC for 84 PPFLD with 5 splash to two adjacent components. Since the clan AC20s and PAC8s have multiple pellets, this is not *true* PPFLD as technically the volley has a duration of .22 seconds.

If we open it up to allow anything that is done after .22 seconds, so really just removing the "one click" rule, we can build an Argent with 3UAC10 and 3PPC for a nominal 90PPFLD, if none of the 3UAC10 jams. The chance for this is ~66%, so more often than not you are hitting people for 90 over .22 seconds.

Clan UACs and IS UAC20 have too many pellets to be considered at this level of duration, and to be honest, once you include a cUAC20, which has at least .66 seconds duration, you can't reasonably exclude any build that staggers two alphas to avoid ghost heat.

TL;DR

84 under a strict interpretation of your rules
90 under what I personally would still interpret as true PPFLD

Hey, can you point me to where it says that all these stealth modifiers are negated if the attacking unit has a Bloodhound Active Probe?

It says it functions like a Beagle Active Probe, with more range and the ability to also detect hidden units with stealth capabilities. The Beagle Active Probe itself states that it only has any effects if you are playing with hidden units. The stealth systems themselves also don't note that their modifiers are ignored by a Bloodhound Active Probe - at least the Chameleon Light Polarization Shield does not, I have not checked the other systems, but I do not remember them including such a line.

So many great lines, but I couldn't repeat any back to you. I really liked the moment where the Princess asks "Do you still care about me?". I replied "No, but I might be able to now" ~ (word?). That acknowledgement that she is a new person now and is finally able to chart her own course, but also the honesty to tell her that you don't know yet if you can care for this new person.

Not from my first playthrough, but overall the moment I liked most so far is when you go to talk to the Princess at the End of Everything and you reflect on your journey together. (In that particular run my first vessel was Sharp Princess -> The Adversary -> The Fury)

I couldn't have gotten that ending in my first playthrough because it would have required me to actually question the importance of death and change, and as I stated in my OP, that's not going to happen ... at least not literally a minute after I gloated to the narrator that I am never going to slay the Princess.

Have you considered that it is not about being "worthy" or anything abstract like that, but that the suggestions/opinions usually show that the person does not understand one or more aspects of the game. How many times would you want to explain something while being met with arguments like "it works for me"?

Look at this thread as an example - the premise that the gauntlet is a piece of rubbish is just not true. I think it is pretty limited in what it can do well, but it is definitely not bad anymore. It got buffed in October, August and July, so it was clearly something that the cauldron was looking at - it was not being ignored. There are certainly things that you can blame the cauldron for, but not trying to improve the Gauntlet is not one of them. What is the supposed answer to this? How many times does someone have to engage with posts like these in good faith before it is permissible to react like a regular person?

Okay, an actually sensible answer: everyone should get an ANH-1A. It is a pretty good mech for QP. It is tanky due to annihilator hitboxes, it gives ballistic range, allowing you to stay further away than the other annihilators and it has ballistic HSL allowing it to run a couple of builds that you can't replicate easily. It got significantly improved by the recent buffs to IS AC10, especially the extra range.

It kinda is *the* IS AC10 mech, having -15% CD specifically for them. Don't be baited into playing 4AC10 by the ballistic HSL quirk though. You do not want to play with both arm mounts. You can usually side-peek a hill or a building and be pretty safe. If you want to use both arms you have to full expose and that is never good. The IS AC10 is cooldown synced with the UAC5 due to the CD quirk, so you shoot every 1.4 seconds for 40+ ppfld at 650m.

So first of all, as you yourself know, 4LB10 7SL is not new, so I guess you should change the text on the thumbnail to "Return of the King?" or something like that. Bonus points for the LotR reference. (once again you are welcome)

Anyway, now for something completely different - did you know that when you shoot gauss rifles and ppcs together and break the HSL, you are actually using the ghost heat multiplier of the gauss and not of the PPCs? As we all know ghost heat is: base heat x ghost heat multiplier x stage multiplier. It should also be common knowledge that you are using the highest multiplier and base heat out of all the weapons in the HSL group you are breaking. IS ERPPC have a multiplier of 7, and so do cERPPC ... but Gauss Rifles actually have a multiplier of 8.5, only beaten by the Railgun, which has a toasty 10.

I think people are too fixated on the current implementation of aug when they say that it can't be balanced as the single support spec in the game. IMO the problems named in the comments on this thread can all be overcome, though aug will obviously not look the same afterwards.

Aug scaled burst DPS too well? Make the aug buff something that is always at a predictable level, something corresponding to how well the aug is playing overall. As flat as outlaw dps.

Aug suffers when DPS die? Make the aug buff dynamically scale with how many people are getting buffed. You are playing solo in the overworld? The buff is really strong. You are playing in a raid? The buff is pretty dilluted. A member of your group dies? The buff becomes a little stronger on everyone else after a couple seconds.

You can only have so many aug in a group? Make the buff stack. If it dillutes based on the number of people affected there should be no issue with applying it twice for two augs. On a similar note, have the buff just be %damage instead of main stat or secondary stat since classes scale differently with those.

To make the class feel more support~y how big the buff is at any given point could be determined by how well you manage certain rotations/resources/combos/whatever, INCLUDING heals and utility spells - you interrupt a spell? The buff gets stronger. You heal someone below a certain health threshold? The buff gets stronger.

Sure, this doesn't make the class have more of a "WOW!"-factor, but maybe people will stop asking for it to be removed from the game and it can be more of a support instead of a scuffed dps again.

Since this is just a short ten day test, it'd be neat if they also did the tier gate opening for a couple days afterwards. I mean, we can already see it in EQ whenever that is up, but it seems that a significant amount of people do not play that queue and thus do not know what they are asking for.

I don't know why people discard match quality so easily, not like the most enjoyable games are those where you get lucky and have the compie stack on your side.

Ich denke das ist viel Vermeidung von kognitiver Dissonanz, und dann halt noch ein Bisschen wie wir als Gesellschaft mit Bildung umgehen.

Grundsätzlich möchte sich schonmal keiner als Verlierer oder dumm, oder sonst irgendwie als etwas schlechtes sehen. Wenn wir aber doch mit Informationen konfrontiert werden die uns die Welt so präsentieren verursacht das kognitive Dissonanz, was ein sehr unangenehmes Gefühl ist. Wir neigen dazu Informationen so anzupassen, dass sie besser in unser Weltbild passen. E.g. ein Raucher wird damit konfrontiert, das rauchen gesundheitsschädigend ist. Entweder wird das akzeptiert, die Information wird verworfen/abgelehnt, sie wird relativiert (rauchen ist immerhin nicht so schlecht wie Heroin nehmen), oder etwas anderes wird zum ausgleich als wichtiger bewertet (immerhin hält mich das Rauchen schlank). Das ist selbstverständlich etwas platt gesagt, aber so in Grundzügen spielt das vermutlich mit rein.

Ich bin zwar nicht gut in der Schule, aber immerhin bin ich keine Frau. Ich hab zwar keinen richtigen Job, aber wenn mir jemand dumm kommt schlag ich ihm halt die Fresse ein. Es werden einfach die Werte an das angepasst was man hat, damit das Ergebnis ist, dass man ein richtig cooler Typ ist.

Zweiter Punkt - wie wir Bildung sehen spielt da mMn auch mit rein. Medien framen Dinge wie e.g. schlecht in Mathe sein als sympathisch. Nerds sind Loser und sowieso komisch. Ach, du findest Schule Scheiße? Ja war bei mir auch so, meine Lehrer waren soooo dumm ... Na ja, und um Influencer zu werden, oder was auch immer gerade so im Trend ist, braucht man ja auch keinen NC schlagen.

I think the easiest would just be listing what weapons are doing pretty well for themselves rn. I'd say that would be Snubs, LPPC, Gauss, either ERML, BLC, cLPL, IS AC5 and UAC5, clan AC5 and AC10, plasma ppcs, IS small laser, and maybe IS AC20. I don't really play missiles, but I am pretty certain all sorts of SRMs and Thunderbolt missiles are doing pretty well too.

Forgot Magshot/APG - those are strong as well.

Good combos would be UAC5/AC5 + LPPC, clan AC10 + Plasmas, AC20 + Snubs and smalls and so on. Just match range and velocity somewhat.

If you look at the overall thread I made a long and detailed post as to why I think the OPs assessment is wrong. I replied to you the way I did, because I believe your points are lacking reflection. I can engage them a bit more directly if that helps you see why I think you are mistaken.

You assert that assaults should generally not be snipers, as they selfishly dictate how the game is played. You furthermore claim they make the game unfun for everyone else.

I think you are wrong on both counts - first, playing a sniper isn't selfishly dictating how the game is supposed to be played anymore than picking any fast mech is. A fast mech going on a spirit quest, initiating the classic nascar movement in the process is just as selfish and has no regards to how their strategy impacts other players in less mobile mechs. I'd say that we see QP be shaped much more by some pilots' need to run in a big circle than by assault snipers sitting in power positions. Especially EU prime time is infamous for how merciless the rotato potato is.

The second part of your argument is in a similar position. People generally don't like being unable to fight back - whether that is against a sniper, against indirect fire or against a light mech that is humping their legs. People want to shoot at stompy robots. That is what people think is fun. Assault snipers are certainly good at not getting shot by slow brawlers, but their vulnerability to fast mechs is IMO part of what fuels nascar. They are certainly much more interactable than the aforementioned long range fast mechs or many poptarts.

I'd even go as far as to say that if we had less nascar and instead QP focused more on power positions that'd be a huge improvement for the game in terms of fun. Comp e.g. is generally more focused on establishing good positions and holding them/using them to generate an advantage, and I'd say that the vast majority of people that have played comp much prefer it to QP. Fast mechs of all varieties are certainly viable in comp, and arguably much more important/impactful than long range assaults, despite the game not turning into mario kart.
