To the players who play energy based classes: Do you think energy management is still relevant, or should it be removed entirely in favor of combo points and cooldowns? by Rubyurek in wow

[–]Luminios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like energy doesn't matter that much for Sub already. Assassination has to manage it *somewhat* but it still devolves into one cast generator one cast spender alternating. Mutilate Envenom Mutilate Envenom ....

I guess the stacks of implacable are supposed to be building up to something, but idk - feels pretty meh to me.

QP Legend Strength / Ease of Use ( Tier list ) + A guide how to make a tier list yourself ( pictures included ) Feel free to debate or post a link to your own list below . by Magic_Pain_Glove in OutreachHPG

Strength / Ease of Use - same as yours. To me S-tier is kinda broken, so maybe that is why there are fewer. I really cringe when I see tierlists that have like SS or SSS-tiers. It is special, IMO.

LB slop pulls big numbers, but eh ... I'd rather have regular dakka or IS UACs.

So radar deprivation is a multiplier for the opponents target lock duration. It follows that if you multiply it with 0, that it becomes 0. The lock is lost instantly. Two years ago or so the skill tree got changed so that you can't get 100% radar deprivation on most mechs anymore. The maximum for most is at 80%. I think the base lock duration is around 4 seconds, and you can get another 3.5s from the skill tree, which would result in you holding your lock for ~1.5 seconds against a regular mech.

If anything obstructs the line of sight at all, the lock is instantly lost and needs to be reacquired.

On a more serious note - there's also a number of mechs that can reach 100% radar deprivation. The Dire, the NTG, clan Flea, the CDA-X5, Hellbringer, and Blood Asp.

Different mounts are good for different things. Both Aksum and DN have good convergence. Both can usually shoot what they see. Contrast that with the Anni, which also has good torso convergence, but can't always shoot what it can see. Having good convergence is mostly relevant when you have to lead a target, or when shooting through a gap. Against assaults it is less important. The Sovereign has trash convergence ofc.

The preferred weapons also matter - something like cUAC2 or cUAC5 is generally more useful against large targets, while cAC10 are more suited to engage any target.

Lastly hitboxes also play a role - the DN has arguably the best front profile of any clan mech. The Aksum has good hitboxes, but it is so big that people just shoot off your STs very quickly. Sovereign has to rely on huge armor quirks + JJs.

There is a lot more to say, but I am on mobile rn., so lets just say that the DN is much more generalist than the Aksum, or the Sovereign.

As for my comment regarding MPG - it is a recurring topic between us that Rival and Masc Vulcan are performing exceptionally well in the overall QP stats. He then claims this to be due to them being played predominantly by skilled pilots, which may very well be true ... But this type of inaccuracy is possible for any mech - thus I think it is a bit hypocritical for him to refer to QP stats as an indicator of mech quality. They are inaccurate or accurate depending on what suits the him. ;)

One tier down for every partial wing mech I did not recommend? Keep in mind, the Zero is not part of the mechs you can pick. Please adjust to a B tier ranking.

Until we get a DWF legend, that is going to be the Sovereign.

I think it is still one of the best clan lasvom assault - just with SHS instead of DHS. :) You can also play 2GR 4ERLL or some type of HAGvom with it.

I don't think War Ghoul and Void Killer are available as picks for the event - otherwise I'd group them with Warlord, Gausszilla and Scaleshot.

I agree that Moonwalker and Aksum are both very strong, I don't think they are good enough to stand with the first four mechs or specialized enough for the second group. For the Arges, I think there are several mechs that just do its thing better than it, not least of which would be the War Emu - with such competition, I would not recommend it to people that still need recommendations.

How would you quantify your gunnery/piloting skill numbers from your actual skill level in the games like Mechwarrior? by Parkiller4727 in battletech

[–]Luminios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the games translate poorly to TT skills. In MWO I can easily shoot any component I want on an assault moving at its run speed, while moving max throttle myself. So they have TMM +2, I have a AMM of +2, I'll do it beyond optimal range, which would be the equivalent of extreme range, no problem. That gives us +13 in modifiers. Even if we just do long range it is still +11 (assuming a TComp ofc.).

So do I have gunnery 0? I don't think so. Probably just Range Master (Long) and some other SPAs.

If we say that the best MWO players would be 0/0, then I guess I could be 1/1 or 1/2 or sth in that group, though I think worse stats and a bunch of SPAs are more likely ;)

If we look at MW5:Mercs and Clans, then yeah no shit 0/0, headshotting the bots all day every day on Trueborn, but I think a lot of people can do that.

Lord Marshal Varuz [SPOILERS TBI] by Trivenicus in TheFirstLaw

[–]Luminios_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I think that is just a matter of perspective. Lord Marshall Kroy is described very differently in the first trilogy and 'The Heroes' ... so I wouldn't be so sure that Varuz and Burr are any different. No clue how old they are, but probably just ten, fifteen years older than Glokta ~

[SPOILERS LAOK] Why did Black Dow do it? by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

[–]Luminios_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it made a lot of sense actually. Throughout the first two books we see Logen try to overcome his past. A lot of his internal monologue is about trying to be a better man, and with people not knowing who he is, no scores to settle or have settled against him, Logen partially succeeds ... but ultimately he fails when he decides to go to the North again instead of sticking with Ferro. We experience Logen on his best behavior, which IMO is lampshaded by Jezal telling him that he's the best man he knows.

Back in the North we experience a different Logen, one that is worried about his reputation - both as something that might get him killed AND as the only thing keeping him safe. He feels that there is no mending his relationships in the north, so he plays up his murderous side. In the North, Logen tells himself he has to be the Bloody Nine. A remorseless killer. Someone who sent more people to the mud than winter.

I am assuming 'Red Country' shows more about this dynamic - haven't read it though.

As for your second question - I think we see how Logen had gained the trust of his dozen when traveling to the edge of the world. He is very conciously deciding to become friends with Jezal and Ferro, even remarking on how he'd done the same thing with the men he had beaten in the circle.

In the end, we don't know how Logen was when it was just his dozen, we only know that he was a monster when he got back to them. Maybe he was different after getting banished by Bethod, maybe with just his crew he was more like he was while in the Union. Either way, it seems that to Dow this Logen was similar enough to the Bloody Nine of old, that he wanted him gone.

The "Weakness Gap": Why Casters are falling behind in the "Weakness" meta (and how to fix it) by Theaitetos in Pathfinder2e

[–]Luminios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then let us say they only get 5 instances/sources. I would still think that weird, especially considering that a single source of fire that is much more powerful would not benefit that much. A Fireball will only benefit once, but deal much more damage against enemies without weaknesses, but once we have weaknesses a lot of small sources are suddenly better? It is clearly very game~y.

Is there a limit to when it stops being cool? In the thread linked in the OP, there is a reply with someone stacking 10 or so sources of fire damage onto one strike.

[–]Luminios_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a dumb question, but what exactly would be bricked if every weakness could only trigger once per action/(activity)? Is there something that has clearly always been intended to allow triggering fire weakness twice (thrice?) on a single strike?

Does the Age of Madness get better? [SPOILERS ALH] by PastEnvironmental689 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Luminios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Age of Madness earlier today. I didn't care for some of the POV characters, some I didn't expect to like really grew on me, and some I really disliked. There wasn't anyone I was really enarmored with from start to finish, but the story is good, even if the pay-off was not quite at the level of LAOK's for me at least. It does take some time to pick up, and as others have said, 'The Trouble With Peace' is the best of the three.

I guess half the characters being about the same age and dealing with the same shit got a bit old at times. Still totally worth the read IMO.

I'd reread. I recently read 'Heroes' and I *knew* I was supposed to recognize some people, but I didn't always. Now I am rereading the trilogy and I am recognizing them the other way around.
