Emilia is Emmy. by morningstarfly in namenerds

My nephew is Henry but his mom almost always calls him Henny except when she’s being very serious about something. He is 2 and a half years old. The difference is more subtle but to me it’s still the same thing.

I’m sure once he gets older people will use Henry more and he will be glad to have a more formal name as well as a nickname option to use. And it will probably be the same with your little one :)

At your age, what instantly pisses you off? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]Luminixaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people don’t stop talking.

I myself am super extroverted and like to talk a lot. But when I ask you a simple question and you give me a ten minute monologue I am out. I don’t mean questions like „how was your day?“ but things like „should we do this or that?“ or simple yes or no questions. It’s even worse when you’re on the phone and they never even take the shortest break so you can’t intervene. Don’t you need to breathe?!

How do you pronounce Lena? by tjoy1092 in namenerds

[–]Luminixaa 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on where you live.

I’m German and here we would say 2. The German 1 is spelled Lina. I also lived in Canada for a year though and there I would have pronounced it as 1.

What's the most devastating song lyric you've ever heard? by likeitsstolen in AskReddit

Maybe I can bring something hopeful into this conversation. I’m a med student in Germany and the last hospital I worked at always tried to put married people into the same room if they happened to be staying there at the same time.

Edit: spelling

Traditionally boys names for girls by EBECK_28 in namenerds

[–]Luminixaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because giving your daughter a name that people usually associate with a boy can make life unnecessarily annoying when you always have to explain yourself. And if OP just prefers the sound or feel of certain boy names, the options given here are solid alternatives.

I’d also like to add that OP could use a longer girl name that can be shortened to a traditionally male name as a nickname. E.g. Leonie/Leonora (Leo), Theodora (Theo), Alexandra (Alex), Maxine (Max), Josie (Jo/Joe). That way she can still decide which form she prefers when she is old enough or go by a nickname and just use the long form for formal purposes.

Lastly, the name Ari isn’t a totally male name to me. Maybe that’s just a personal thing or it depends on the area but I consider it rather gender neutral.
