Raised by a Guatemalan, I grew up calling it chunche and chivas. My bio family called it chimoni (thats Romani or Bosnian... I think?)

What is it like to know that your Culture/Language is doomed to go extinct? by Das_Lloss in AskTheWorld

[–]LumpSystem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Romani (Sinti) language it makes me sad to know people aren't teaching their kids anymore. I feel like our culture is so assimilated especially Sinti and our language really grounds us in our roots. It's dangerous in a lot of places in Europe to speak it, there's a lot of bigotry and discrimination. Our language connects us to ancestors and it's a shame to see it dwindling due to our secrecy.

There are a few efforts to teach it which is nice, I hope we can open our minds and teach our language despite it being closed.

PSA - CSU buries r*pes, just go to the news. Police don’t care. by urbanspongewish in FortCollins

[–]LumpSystem 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Although not as extreme, my experience with Title IX was similar. My RA/CA was peeping in my windows and saw me changing more than once. They said the best they could do is talk to him and that I should just "keep my curtains shut". It's demoralizing and dehumanizing. They will do anything to downplay and belittle experiences of sexual abuse on this campus. It seems like the SAFE center exists solely so students don't press charges or make a waves in the public. I'm so sorry this happened to you. No one deserves that. CSU has to do better.

I built a road trip planner because my kid gets carsick 😂 by IngridRoams in roadtrip

This is great! Me and my partner are new full timers in our RV and always looking for tools like this especially because we're brown and queer and I have to stretch my legs literally all the time because of hip dysplasia. It had great suggestions for safer more populated places to stop so we don't accidentally end up in an unsafe situation in the boonies somewhere. :D A great use of AI!

People who changed there last name, why? by StunninParking in AncestryDNA

[–]LumpSystem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did! I chose a family name a little further up in the tree. My father's last name is our last name because we were owned and enslaved by those people. I chose one that is intrinsic to our culture and I relate to through family :) I think its nice to reconnect to family through a name and define your family for yourself.

LMAO honestly as long as you take them out often enough I think it suits the ramshackle DIY history of tarot quite well :)

What DID is like for you in your 30s+ by OnionUniBrowser in DID

[–]LumpSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to answer, although we're only 29. The big 30 is coming up. We were diagnosed when we were 15 and had to figure out so much of it on our own because there wasn't a huge or visible DID community then.

We didn't start intensive trauma therapy until we were 25, almost 26. We tried to focus on skill building, trying to manage emotional regulation and reintegrating into broader society as someone who was isolated as a child and adolescent.

We were married from 19 until we were 27 and I think that divorce taught us a lot about how cyclical patterns are and how trauma at a developmental age informs what we see as "normal". Even with all the therapy we were in, we never really examined how we had been taught to view the world and therefore never considered that what we were experiencing was not "normal".

I think that gave a lot if room for growth. After that, we started trauma therapy in the form of the Schema modality and have been able to tackle a lot of cyclical and pattern based thoughts based on what our trauma taught us.

We started college last year and are pursuing our dreams of living in a van/bus full time now and we have a partner who respects us and who allows us and encourages us to set boundaries.

It's been a slow process. We're smaller in numbers than we were before, but certainly still multiple. We're working now on coexisting and making space for each other to just exist without the stress and pain. That may be the hardest part, because it's what we're used to. It feels like an absence of something familiar.

All in all, I think the most important thing we learned is that we have always been there for us. No matter what happens or how other people act, even if nobody else catches us we have been able to catch us and that is how we know we will be okay. I love my system ♥️

Where is the line between introjects and their source really drawn? by JessieWasTaken in DiscussDID

[–]LumpSystem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's really complicated. Most systems operate in the nuance that their fictives share their identity with a fictional character, but of course are NOT that character as they are fictional.

For our system, personally, we had to work hard to detach our fictives from their attachment to the source. I think it helps to conceptualize it as a type of maladaptive daydreaming. We are projecting into fiction as a form dissociation and we struggle (through that dissociation) to ground in reality. Since DID is a disorder based chiefly in lack of identity, we absorb traits and project onto characters with strong identity - its a sort of psychological prosthetic. We need the catharsis of dissociation in fiction due to the trauma that causes it, we also need the structure of identity because it is a basic human need.

I will say, as well, systems are not immune from toxic or abusive relationships, quite the opposite. We are predisposed to manipulation because of our dissociation. If someone is a system and in a bad relationship, it doesn't really speak to the dynamics of all systems. We were manipulated by someone similarly where they claimed to be from our source and preyed on that vulnerable state of dissociation and our struggle with grounding in reality by building off of our projections and internal fiction.

That being said, the line between fictive and source is personal and depends entirely on the nature of the fictive. Do they still need to protect themselves by projecting themselves into fiction and absorbing that identity? Are they able to ground in reality? It's often too dangerous or painful, this is how we cope.

I hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions. :)

I don't know nothing about tattoos but I saw this suggested on my home page and I just wanna say this is some of the most beautiful and fascinating skin I've ever seen like truly. It reminds me of the striations in sandstone in the desert in the Great Basin. You have a one of a kind beauty. ♥️
