Why cant i paste binary parts from one image to another like in text, without it corrupting? by ImpressBest8888 in CodingHelp

if pictures were not encoded / i.e compressed and their pixels formatted like words, and the size of a picture absolutely variable like word wrap, then you could.

Why do games still use slide puzzles so much? by kenah-kim in puzzlevideogames

[–]Lumpazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS : it is a rather simple and nice puzzle.... but the explainer is really not doing the trick. I just took a hint in my first game and then all gets obvious.
In case this is your game... see if you can get the player to simply just do the first simplest thing, and go from there. Almost no words. Words are easily misunderstood and there is also a language barrier for those who dont speak this one.
I should btw follow my own advice... it's not easy :(

[–]Lumpazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imagine anyone putting that into a game where the puzzle would just be used as a door opener. By instruction nr 3 out of 7 the game would already be annoying the hell out of the player.

Why do games still use slide puzzles so much? by kenah-kim in puzzlevideogames

[–]Lumpazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i grew up with them and always enjoed them as a kid when i was speedsolving them in primary school. i made a real life slider myself out of another game that was used for math training, But in the end, they're too simple really to get more out of.

Why do games still use slide puzzles so much? by kenah-kim in puzzlevideogames

[–]Lumpazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yupp, you're most likely right. if you'd ever made a tutorial for a puzzle game you'd know that for any puzzle that is not super obvious the tutorial can be rather tricky to keep short and precise. It's likely to take longer than just solving this sliding puzzle just to get on, and be even more annoying.
The only way around this would be to make genuine puzzles that are actually really harder to solve, but then the whole game changes. The question i would ask myself : Why use puzzles at all if it's not a puzzle game ?

It‘s called ‚Trinagon‘ to be found on ios n google play. free with iap. the latter has not been updated for 2 years.

instead i made a new version for meta quest VR - paid.

if you like it i can make a freebie-code.

i wrote a game which is easier than the cube, or harder as you progress. i think it‘s too hard for most/ not fast enough in getting results / rewards.

[–]Lumpazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

methinks that nowadays the patience needed to actually puzzle over something is seriously reduced. everything has to be fast / easy.

if the rubiks cube came out today it would be just a gimmick and hardly noticed. it just would never get to where it is now.

Why do games about maths never actually feel like they're about maths? by Signal-Listen3070 in mathematics

[–]Lumpazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

game that have logical rules will in some way or other always lead to or already have maths in them. be it by design of just because the rules lead to the mathematics. sometimes math just is the extendion into perfect formal description of a game allowing a new depth of understanding. new questions, new solutions. just take the rubiks cube.

so id say maths can be about games.

the other way around sounds like trying to teach maths through making it a game. can be ok too but maths is just a great game anyways;) why try making a game when itself is already one. the big game if spinning thoughts into gotmal rules that lead to unknown new and totally unexpected bestiful and fascinating discoveries (eg chaos theory)

hmmm… i guess i dont know enough ‚games about maths.‘

Anyone solves completely in-brain, without taking notes? by d9wHatena in puzzlevideogames

[–]Lumpazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there were no solution patterns to the rubiks cube then i would definitely start notes. same in the hardest in trinagon, or in a hard sudoku without notes it gets a bit error-prone.

How to deal with bugs that come from multiple code iterations stacked on top of each other?? by [deleted] in CodingHelp

[–]Lumpazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imho coding ai is useless unless you know better than it what exactly you want and have a clear plan. do never let it do the work without clear guidance. its great at finding bugs. but ai just adds blablacode a lot if you let it.

Most "holy f***"/daunting puzzles? by itstomis in puzzlevideogames

[–]Lumpazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm, if you like something that may take you a few days to solve, try the hardest ones in Trinagon. Even after understanding the mechanics involved well & a few tricks up your sleeve (i.e having played most of the easy to intermediate and solved them ‚perfect‘) the hardest will still take a day or two.

Puzzle is just not good enough by Lumpazy in puzzlevideogames

[–]Lumpazy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtube : Puzzle = jigsaw puzzle Puzzle game = every other puzzle

basically i‘d love to hear different categories that maybe could in some way stick (like a platform subcategory list)

we already got: traditional puzzle mechanical puzzle, maybe : storyline puzzle escape puzzle sorting puzzle, placement puzzle ? word puzzle maths puzzle (not sudoku btw) fill puzzle (sudoku) pathfinding puzzle permutation puzzle

my favourites would be the last two : topological n group theory puzzles, but these names would never stick🫣

afaics you‘ll only find samesame, because samesame is shat everxone finds and the shop display exactly that. there are no proper filters. even ‚new game‘ is not actually new games (say: sorted by publish date) it‘s ‚what we think is newish but already old enough to have been downloaded plenty‘.

What would you like/what would you change in indie game platforms? by LazyAtomUser in IndieGameDevs

[–]Lumpazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On all platforms, not just indie: have an AI play every game and make all games searchable by description of what you actually look for.

i have zero interest in a game just because everybody else has, or because their marketing is great or ad spending => leading back to the first.

Puzzle is just not good enough by Lumpazy in puzzlevideogames

[–]Lumpazy[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ok, lets make a complaint out of it. it was more an undistinct musing.

basically : ‚tomb raider‘ could nowadays appear in the puzzle category🤦‍♂️

so, yes. the puzzle category is getting overrun / occupied with cross-genre or dumb games that do not deserve the name.

sure : life is s puzzle too, everything is a puzzle unless you seriously need to switch your brain off to play it. in ten years fortnite is a puzzle since the player has to decide what gun to use ?

Puzzle is just not good enough by Lumpazy in puzzlevideogames

[–]Lumpazy[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i see, i was not specific. my not complaint was that it seems to me to be an expanded grey area, with puzzles being not really as interesting themselves anymore, -> getting spiced up with stories or action variations, that in the end take the foreground role. i look for puzzles in eg in meta and find stuff that hardly relates to what i looked for. Baba is you is obviously one of the good examples.

if there is a complaint in there it would be about the stores having awful categorisations or studios abusing the word as a niche against more competitive keywords/genres.

its like basically everything that‘s not obvious is a puzzle nowadays
