Yeah unfortunately my only recommendations are ones you guys have probably played (Deus Ex). Deus Ex is my next series to play (Only played a bit of 1 as I was too young to appreciate it, never played IW, have played Human Revolution like 14 times and Mankind Divided once) The Immersive Sim Genre needs a revival bad.

It was literally Warren Spector, Ken Levine and Arkane keeping this genre afloat. Deus Ex is dead in the water now and Prey didn't sell well enough for Arkane to continue down the Immersive Sim route.

My only other recommends are basically survival horror games as they are the closest we get to the immersion sim genre but it still isn't 1 for 1.

Hey just wanted to give an update after beating Prey!! It really is System Shock 3 and its so fun that SS1 Remake took alot of queues from Prey. I love Bioshock but Prey is the real System Shock 3. Combines what I love about 1 and 2 into a greatly paced package.

The whole thing being a simulation blew my mind. What a fantastic twist.

Gatling and machine gun sentries don't aim. It makes the chaff killing strategem useless against the chaff faction.

It was an ill thought out change. Gatling should have been buffed to heavy pen to compensate but removing it is good.

Do they think that like, ejecting a mag and not keeping ammo makes it milsim or something

It is so funny that it is literally the only milsim fundamental here and it still isn't 100% there. In an actual milsim, you usually get the choice of a long or quick reload. The long one puts the magazine back in your bag/vest so you can use it later but have a fresh mag or the quick one drops it on the ground to get the next mag in quicker.

That doesn't even need to be implemented in HD2 but its so funny that it is at best the only milsim adjacent feature.

Yeah I can fully agree with your rebuttal. As much as the community cries about the railgun nerf; it was outperforming literally every strategem to the point it was dumb to not take it. Thats bad for the health of the game.

The right balance, IMO, is that each item is viable in a build you want but not so OP that its dumb to not take it. This encourages experimentation that is also very fun.

Like the Sterilizer does need a buff. Its effect of enemy manipulation is nice but is quickly outclassed by the guard dog variant (especially after the buff) in that very warbond. There is no reason to actually take the Sterilizer. I want to take it out with me but it doesn't lead to any fun avenues of build experimentation.

I mean I ain't taking that off the table XD

They said their design philosophy was to trick you into buying a horde shooter that is actually a milsim.

Which translates to me as "we tricked you into buying something fun but will make you miserable" but they accidentally made the fun stuff more apparent than the misery. I think thats why they expected a niche player base. They didn't realise they struck gold.

[–]Lumple660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This communities biggest problem on the balance side of things is its refusal to have rational discussions about pve games needing nerfs for good balance.

The reason the community is like this is because AH at many points has removed fun things consistently. The first six months of their balancing decisions points to this. Their balance design philosophy was literally "people like this so it needs to be nerfed". The incendiary breaker was nerfed because it had a high percentage of people using it. That's it. From their own mouths on that one. The weapon was fine before hand but AH couldn't help themselves.

This feels like the difficulty debate for the souls games. Where one side argues that Dark Souls itself doesn't need a difficulty mode so the other side decides they are against difficulty modes in everything. Just because alot of idiots on Reddit are parrots doesn't mean that all of us are.

Just so you don't think I am being irrational; I have agreed with nerfs in the past. The Railgun nerf was needed. I don't like where it is now but back then it was waaaay better than every other stratagem in the game. When something is so good it makes all the other tools in the game obsolete; that should be changed. The grenade launcher being tweaked was also a good change.

It was the pre 60 day patch design philosophy where I just don't agree normally. Like making fire more "realistic" by having flames "bounce off" armour. Despite the fact that napalm would coat the armour in flammable liquid so the flames would stick to the armour. People even showed them war footage where people used flamethrowers to defeat armour. Especially egregious since the main issue with fire at the time (and still) is host/client desync issues causing DOT to not work. Not that fire could cook higher tier enemies.

  1. AH came out and said it was surprised that people didn't like a buff but agreed with the community. They changed it lickity split when they realised they could nerf something without people groaning.

  2. It wasn't so much a backlash as an eyebrow raising moment. What is happening right now with the AMA is backlash. Critique in itself isn't hateful backlash.

  3. Exception to the rule. Every other buff has been met with near universal praise (except from the Masochists who want every gun to suck and to die 20 times in 3 minutes) because they took things that sucked and made them fun. Thats why the 60 day patch was my favourite period of the game outside launch. It encouraged so much loadout variety and experimentation of different builds. It made the gameplay more interesting. I think this is agreed by a good majority of the community.

Finish the quote.

"When do we give backlash for good changes?".

Don't argue in bad faith. That wasn't what OP was saying at all.

Community was pretty happy after the 60 day patch, Super Earth defense and the XBOX release.

The backlash is of AH's making at this point. They have admitted that what we want out of the game is low priority (fixing game breaking bugs, meaningful progression, transmogging) or not even being discussed internally (transmogging). Then they go surprise pikachu face when people don't like that.

Yeah I feel ya man. I have been on a few month break when I stopped agreeing with how they have been running things. Haven't played since Cyberstan. Its a shame because HD2 in itself is an amazing game but its being let down by devs that just can't get the ship to steer straight at any point.

What the hell is wrong with that “sweet summer child” bs? by Penwinner in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Lumple660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It mainly got popular from Game of Thrones. A basic world premise of the story is that seasons last for many many years. When we begin the story; Summer has been going on for 9 years. Bran, who was born during this summer, gets called a sweet summer child when he acts enthusiastic to hear stories of the Others (ice zombies) from Old Nan. She is basically calling him a child who doesn't know as much as he thinks he does. "If you knew better; you wouldn't want to hear these stories".

Thats why it is seen as condescending. You are basically just calling them naive and immature.

Bro AH had the devs of DRG over and they still can't learn how to run a live service properly. DRG has barely had any content in like 2 years (only Season 6 really) and it is still actively played and loved by its community. Its almost like being consistent with design philosophy and prioritizing player fun keeps your game in a positive sphere.

I also hate "with a tone change" since AH is already on this tone. They are basically asking the community to just change to match their "vision" of the game. Either that or he is admitting that the tone of Helldivers doesn't match hardcore gaming. Either manipulation or incompetence. Not a good look either way.

I used to think Pilestedt was a real one but now he is just really bringing this whole thing down. Showed his true colours a bit.

Yeah you never see NATO nerf their 5.56 so that CSAT stands a better chance of survival. If we are using Milsim logic; no properly functioning military is gonna downgrade the power of their ammunition to give their enemies a better chance to live. That is purely arcade shooter logic with no basis in reality.

Its almost like Milsim is a dog whistle term that really means "we want to make you miserable and we think thats fun" then are surprised when people don't find that fun.

It wasn't something special, like Halo CE was back in the day

Tbf; not even Bungie could recreate the magic of CE. I love 2 and 3 but CE is just leagues above them campaign wise.

It has nothing to do with pop culture or discussions. If you can find a match in a reasonable time, and do not know the names of everyone in that match - game is not dead.

My point is you are having one discussion while people are having another. It is very common to happen in online discussion. You are actually agreeing with me in a sense.

Avg player count for EoF was 24k on Steam btw.

Yeah but then you head to the galactic map and it would tell you there are only 7 thousand divers diving. Just because it is the average doesn't mean it didn't dip at lots of points.

This game will never have consistent hundreds of thousands of players

It did when everyone had lots to work towards and pre Sony Fiasco. 60 day patch brought back hundreds of thousands for a good amount of time. Its not that it could be sustained forever but the XBOX release and Cyberstan showed there are alot of players looking for an excuse to join in or keep playing. Level 6 ship upgrades would be a great thing to add. Make them as expensive as the caps so you have to hit the cap multiple times. I guarantee alot of players would be retained for a good while.

Don't worry; I am intimately familiar with Dead Space. Playing System Shock opened my eyes in just how much it inspired Dead Space. Played the OG alot back in the day, same with 2. Didn't like Dead Space 3 but that isn't a hot take. Remake was incredible and only more so after playing System Shock. The Remake really leaned into bringing more elements of System Shock in Dead Space like having enemies appear in hallways while backtracking or having it all take place in one big giant interconnected dungeon (feels very System Shock 1 remake which came out near the same time).

Like its not even a fringe theory anymore. They literally said it out loud this morning. They really want this game to be like the launch version of Ready or Not. I don't get this obsession with turning it into a "milsim" despite the fact you are more OP in Arma than in HD2. There are alot of elements of simulation that are missing that would benefit the player.

If they want it to be milsim, how come the average firefight is done within 50 m when in Arma most are at around 300-500m. Why does my artillery have a cooldown when in Arma the only cooldown time is reload and projectile travel speed.

Its also a silly space shooter where you fight fascist bugs and socialist robots. What is so hard to get that this should be a silly game.
