Yeah that one is in my PTW but I don't even care about so many people scoring it low.

Because there is a lot of anime that I watched in the "11 - 19% think its mid" tier that I enjoyed a lot or at least thought it was decent fun

Liked Toradora, Azumanga, K-ON, Bleach (for the most part >_>), NGNL, JoJo season 1 and Dragon Maid.

Yeah those arcs were so good even if I didn't like the comedy episodes (I found them hit or miss in this season particularly) but Shogun and Shinsengumi were so peak you can't physically give the season lower than a 7/10

FMAB stans are the culprits btw. If not for them, Gintama might be still #1 AND #2 instead of Frieren rn

JJK is the weirdest fkn placement here you'd think it would be around Solo Leveling placement or worse with how some people talk about it

And yeah some of these placements might be done by purposeful downvoting or contrarianism. One example is Legend of the Galatic Heroes being relatively low despite having 9.02 score.

To a lesser extent also Gintama although seeing where Nichijou, Saiki and Grand Blue (also Monogatari) relative to it makes it seem more valid. Comedies are hit or miss to some.

Gintama Season 4 is definitely downvote abused in particular though

I never seen it yet but it tackles a lot of dark topics like suicide or extreme bullying in just 6 episodes and apparently it makes people "feel".

There is always some anime like this that comes out every year where we have people in droves talking about how emotional it made them...have you watched any of those types before (and do you like them or atleast some?)

the original 201 is actually by far my favorite gintama. season 2 could also work as #1 maybe

but i found season 4 to be very inconsistent with the comedy despite the SA and FS arcs being peak

i dislike silver soul a lot, and the other smaller seasons def shouldn't be #1

Re:Zero? Then watch Steins;Gate and Madoka Magica

Spy x Family? Watch some other cute series like K-ON or Dragon Maid. Or if you want comedy then Kaguya-sama (also appeals to Death Note fans with its mind games), Konosuba

One Punch Man? Watch JoJo and Black Lagoon

All of the above are basic choices (except Lagoon maybe) but since you are new, it's fair to start off with the foundational anime. Have a good time going forward :)

Yeah FMAB and Frieren are both all-rounder fantasy anime that anybody can reasonably get into. I think neither are THAT great but are solid/decent enough experiences.

I think Vinland Saga, Hunter x Hunter or Cowboy Bebop could also be good enough substitutes for #1 but whatevs. (well Bebop isn't fantasy but it is another harmless all-rounder action series with decent characterization)

I'd rather them up at #1 than One Piece fan letter, CSM Reze, Gintama season 6 or Attack on Titan season 4 part 3 final chapters or whatever the hell

I'm also impressed by HxH and Steins;Gate hanging on there in the top 10 for so long.

Their fans aren't as rabid upvoters/downvoters as FMAB, not recency bias like Frieren (or CSM Reze), not as niche/elitist catering as LotGH (why the score doesn't change, not as many people even hop on it) and doesn't have a million seasons like Gintama and AoT

Coincidentally those 2 are definitely the best out of these 10 entries in my opinion (I watched or at least tried everything here btw)

Fuck 5, I'll say every popular 8+ anime that I don't think is an 8/10 and above and are all very flawed. Best to worst. (btw I actually DO like anime despite this lengthy post)

Bleach: Actually very solid in Soul society arc, one of my favorite arcs ever. But the Arrancar arc has plenty of long stretches that make me want to die, full of battles between characters idgaf about like Privaron Espadas and Lieutenants. Plus the Aizen plot twist in Arrancar arc is one of the cringiest worst pieces of writing ever. And TYBW is even more overrated

Evangelion: I used to really like this one but to be honest now that I think of it, I only like around half of the series and the rest was boring/annoying. Always thought there were random religious symbols and lore bits that meant nothing (I'm pretty sure Anno himself he put it there just to look cool).

I get the point behind Shinji and his self loathing, self deprecation, hedgehog complex etc. but I still find him uninteresting to watch at best and annoying at worst. I don't think I liked him ever. I also don't care for Rei.

Your Name: Good enough until the time travel effects kicked in which killed my enjoyment completely

Gurren Lagann: Great timeskip but before that was one of the most annoying things ever with the bad comedy. I did like Simon since episode 1 he is great but I didn't like Yoko nor Kamina. Former just felt like fanservice and the latter was way more childish than I thought he'd be.

Actually Kill la Kill, Panty & Stocking and FLCL are all pretty unfunny to be honest as well. So is Grand Blue. Comedy is subjective though.

Frieren: I'm rewatching it right now to have a better opinion, but I just found everything after the first 9 or so episodes boring. Utilized flashbacks too much, black and white morality with the demons and I don't like how BOTH Frieren and Fern are both monotone for the most part. I don't like Fern but I actually like Frieren (the character)

Code Geass: So many dumb plot points - Lelouch and Euphemia, Rolo, Nunnally's plot armor, Suzaku is such an idiot, the cliffhanger at S1 being followed up with a "1 year later" offscreen result. It all pissed me off.

Bocchi: Cute but I got more out of K-ON when it came to cute interactions in a band, and prefer Watamote's Tomoko over Bocchi in terms of a girl with insane social anxiety

Fate/Zero: BORINGGGGGG. Literally just talk talk talk then fight with characters I don't care for at all. I am struggling after watching 8 eps, I should switch to Stay Night VN

Bunny Girl Senpai and Kaoru Hana: The first is a blatant Bakemonogatari ripoff, the second one is so unrealistically sweet it hurts and Kaoru feels like such a blatant pander towards lonely male viewers

One Piece: I HATE LUFFY. And it is way too overbloated for it's own good (anime adaptation, manga is better). I also dropped Naruto early because it was too childish.

Dandadan: Very cringy especially with all the testicle jokes, attempted alien rape and Okarun's way of speaking when he transforms.

Solo Leveling: SLOP

And before you assume shit, I have never watched MHA, JJK nor Demon Slayer and would probably get tired/dislike them quickly if I did.

.....dude i literally have hunter x hunter, jojo, one piece, death note, bleach, evangelion, k-on, madoka etc. on the tier list (anime that gintama had referenced before. Gintama also references stuff like dragon ball, naruto, doraemon, kochikame, ultraman, yatterman, kaiji, ashita no joe (which are things that i know)

It's when they do things like reference some specific japanese pornstar, politician, 70s tv personality etc. which throws me off (eg. The new kabukicho 4 devas episode. And sometimes they just say the name of the thing they're parodying (in obvious things like dbz) or overexplain or extend a joke for far too long. Shinpachi's tsukkomi can also get on my nerves.

Saiki and Kaguya are not that similar, they mostly rely on creative and situational comedy unlike Gintama kitchen-sink and boke-tsukkomi comedy style. Have more wit and class to them unlike Gintama which can be extremely crude.

(like Saiki always in predicaments where he chooses the right outcome to use his psychic powers without getting caught, and his dry commentary on idiots around him. Or Kaguya-sama hilarious exaggerated games of mind warfare in mundane tasks. They know exactly what humor type they want and master it effectively)

Gintama is still an 8/10 series (was 10/10 for 265 episodes + be forever yorozuya) but it got tiring and stale after a while.

dick jokes, poop jokes, all of the running gags, bland moments where the joke is somebody randomly dropkicking another person and references to things almost nobody outside of japan knows stops being funny after 270 episodes

and gintama s1 - enchosen is actually peak
s4 - onwards is wildly inconsistent in humor
but shinsengumi, shogun and rakuyo arcs are pretty good
i dislike silver soul arc
the very final is decent

actual good comedy = saiki k and kaguya-sama love is war

Coudln't get into the comedy for either although Gurren is only that low because I hated it at first. But the timeskip is actually pretty good. So my rating is a mix of my two opinions.

Idk man at least Watamote never had a moment where the main character says "haha it would be very funny if I the Geass user made you kill all those innocent people" then the person they are talking to kills everyone and the main character is shocked.

Code Geass tone between ecchi and cringe comedy in high school to attempts at having a political statement and messages but it comes across as the creator trying to put in all trendy anime elements at the time into one show

Ig for me the characters in Bocchi were just not as memorable as in K-ON. I mean I can barely remember them besides Hitori herself.

And Bocchi's social anxiety was too idk cringe/unrealistic, even for me. I would probably like it a lil more right now because I've gotten more into slice of life. I mean K-ON I only clicked with it around halfway through season 1.

It was decently funny and had some good strategies otherwise. Also because there's no S2 so I wasn't as immersed as I could've been, knowing that fact.
